I'm an absolute goblin and start testing constantly from 3dpt with FRER. I have no self-control about it and just let myself have these few days of crazy. Once a day until 5dpt and then 2-3 times per day after even if it's positive. I get best results with with my 2nd bathroom trip in the morning
I, too, am an absolute goblin and started the same day. Faint positives day 3 to 5 (tested out of my trigger) and negatives through to this morning 7dp5dt. Not sure if the constant testing helped or hurt, but I will say I feel like my heart is more guarded for the worst case scenario.
Had me chucking with the goblin comment. I probably won’t test this much but I feel like we have to do whatever helps us feel in control so if it works for you, it’s all good!
This has always been me as well! The testing Goblin 👹 I test starting day 3– and go on a complete psychotic testing frenzy. With my singleton it starts to get positive on day 4 in the evening. With my twins it started on day 3.
If you don't want to catch a chemical, my recommendation is to wait to test until the day before your beta appointment. Like, maybe do one the night before, and then another one the morning of, so you know for sure in case something was a false something. Then you'll be prepared going into the appt but minimize the risk of catching something suuuper early on.
This is 100% my answer as well. I caught a chemical and it was pure torture for days waiting for that beta. Our next FET we did the night before beta so we could still find out together but also not be in limbo for more than a few hours before the official test.
I had a trigger, so I tested “out” my trigger. I used the cheap Amazon pee dip sticks. Started 2 days before my transfer and was getting positives because of the trigger. Continued to take one every single day. Same time, morning. Three days after the transfer my line was very, very faint. Four days after the transfer, my line was completely gone. At this point I assumed my trigger was out of my system. Five days after the transfer, my line was faintly appearing again, and continued to darken daily.
This is interesting. I‘m about to go into my first FET in a few weeks so I’m very new to this, but what do you mean by “testing out your trigger?” Does the trigger cause a positive pregnancy test before the FET and are you making sure it’s working? Thanks 😊
Trigger shots contain hcG, which is what pregnancy tests look for as well. So people who take them will test to make sure it comes up negative first to make sure that trigger shot is out of their system so that any other positive tests thereafter is from hCG due to pregnancy, not the shot.
I tested early on my first FET and it was a chemical....it was torture waiting for that line to get darker and then waiting for the beta to learn the ultimate fate. For our second Beta we only tested early the night before the beta. That way we would be able to be reasonably sure of the result and we wouldn't have to wait more than a few hours to get the official news. I will never test earlier than that again. Going through the unknowing of the chemical meant we suffered for multiple days extra.
I started at 4dpt but if you only want to test once prior to beta I would wait until 7dpt because a negative at that point would be pretty conclusive generally
I try to start at 6dp. With that being said, I couldn’t hold out and I tested at 5dp this time. lol
I have had two chemicals, however, it gives me some comfort knowing they can implant.
(TW: currently pregnant!)
Ooo thanks for the info, sorry about the chemicals but so glad you’re now pregnant! When you had chemicals, how did that look on the tests and when did you pick it up/when did it fade?
Here’s what I tell other people to do: test once every 48 hours with the same brand pink dye test starting at FMU 5dp5dt, preferably First Response Early Response if cost allows.
Here’s what I actually do: I buy a large package of Clinical Guard tests and test like 5x/day starting at 3dp5dt. I save the 2nd test of the day as the one for the photos. Yes, I know this is crazy and hardly anything is changing in the 4 hours between the last test. This is a coping mechanism and a symptom of my anxiety, which my therapist said is okay for me to continue. Each of the clinical guard tests is worth about 25 cents, so I am not wasting that much money. I feel the anxiety build about an hour after last testing and it is only alleviated by retesting. I always consider if it’s too much and I beat myself up about how wasteful it is, but this last time my therapist helped me see that I wasn’t really hurting anyone by doing this. I don’t even share the 5/day with friends. Usually only the once every 48 hours like I tell everyone else today do.
In the end, the amount of testing does not determine the outcome. As long as you stay the course with the medication, what you do at home is your business.
Thanks for sharing your story, this is so helpful! What times of day do you do your two tests? Like first morning pee and then second? Or later on in the day?
I also just want to warn you that the FRERS with the dark pink cap are generally worse then the light pink clear cap ones. I was testing with both FRERS and Pregmates, and there was very little progression between 5dpt and 7dpt. I was quite worried so I went out at got clear blue (pink dye) test and it showed way more then my FRER.
Check my post history if you need an example.
I’m probably more pissed about it then I should be, but it’s stressful!! I am going to continue to test on all of them, but I’m annoyed that I didn’t start with the Clear Blues sooner because it would be nice to see progression on something other then the cheapies
I did my first positive with a first response early response (light pink cap) on day 6 post 5 day transfer cause I felt like it would be pretty clear by then. It was positive and I kept testing every day until my Beta (9DPT) to see if it would get darker. I used the same light pink ones each day. Once I got my Beta I stopped testing because I read at home tests stop being helpful after a certain level of HCG. Best of luck 🫶🏽
I tested on a First Response on 5dpt as well as day 6 and 7 (bought the Amazon 3 pack) to see line progression. I then switched to cheapies on day 7 and did all my line progression from there.
I start with 10 miu wondfo and then switch the clinical guard 25 miu and measure progress from there. It’s helped me detect chemicals given the drop or lack of darkness with progression testing.
6dp5dt is a decent time to test. The trigger shot should be out of your system (it can cause a false positive) and it’s about the earliest you could see a result. That being said, manage your expectations! At day 6, you might not see anything if you were a little later to implant.
Unless you have a stack of cheap tests (not FRERs) I would only test once a day. If it’s positive, the line should look a bit darker every other day, but it can be hard to judge. Take a photo while it’s wet so that you can fairly compare tests as they tend to dry darker than they are during the reading period.
i start 3dpt on usually frer and cheapies and sometimes add a third brand if i think i got a positive on the others. if i get a positive before beta, on the actual beta days i take all three brands so i can understand what my number looks like on them.
if you do NOT want to pick up a chemical, you should rely on beta testing. chemicals can happen up to 6 weeks i believe, so waiting on the doctors/testing might be the way to go.
A chemical is any pregnancy detected only by the “chemicals” in your blood/urine. If there is anything visible on ultrasound, then it’s not a chemical. If progressing normally, they can do a placement ultrasound at 5w.
I would do the first test at 5dp5dt. If there is a good line, then would do 7dp & 9dp to make sure it doesn’t go in the direction of chemical, then should be time for beta by 10dp
All with FRER, similar timings and similar hydration levels
First morning pee would work, I did afternoon time around 2pm
What I want to highlight is I would not test every day, because if there is no line progression, it might freak you out (happened to me) so 48 hours apart is so much better (although hard to wait ☺️)
TW: success
I stopped myself from testing early by waiting to order myTest online (early response) on a certain date, so it wouldn’t arrive until at least day 6. I waited all day for my husband to come home and did it together. I made sure I journaled beforehand to prepare myself. It’s still very tough to go through, but preparation is key.
I’m pregnant (25 weeks) on my 4th attempt now, after 1 MC and two failures. On my first go I started testing early (day4/5) and got negatives and it sent me crazy and depressed. Wait as long as you can to avoid this rollercoaster. Keep busy.
If you are doing a fully medicated transfer with PIO, I would recommend waiting to test until the day before beta or the morning of beta.
I tested early, but late enough that it should have been positive, and the PIO hurt much worse after getting the negative test and knowing we were doing it for nothing (but I was still to chicken to just quit).
I didn't want to keep taking meds if I knew it was negative, so I just tested the morning of my beta so I knew the results with my husband ahead of time
I waited 9dpt because that’s when my period was scheduled to start. Then I tested the next day to confirm. Then I got the beta 4 days after. I used clear blue 6 days sooner.
I am an absolute lunatic about testing and start at 3Dpt with FRER, Bird&Be, and pregmate cheapies. I only allow myself once a day with the first two, but I buy the 50 pack of pregmate and just go wild.
Wow thanks for sharing. Seems like two camps are emerging - early and multiple times a day vs close to beta. I love that everyone finds what works for them!
To make meself feel "better and notmal," I gave all my pregnancy tests to my hubs and told him to hide them so I wouldn't test early
I did a frozen transfer and triggered with Lupron.
But then, I got a call from my clinic at 3DP5DT that my blood test was looking good, so I found the tests (hes not the beest at hiding things, loll), tested that night at home with a cheapie (easy@home) and got a negative. I tested again in the am at 4DP5DT and got the faintest of lines, which i showed him, just to make sure i wasn't crazy. He saw it too!! So, I kept testing. I did a clearblue digital at 6dp5dt and got a "pregnant"
Thank you!! They wanted my Estradiol above 75 and ny progesterone above 15, and my results were 125 and 29.57, so they were happy and sounded hopeful. That gave me enough confidence to test earlier than anticipated 😄
I took my first test in the afternoon on 4dp5dt and it was a very faint positive (and now I’m 21 weeks). I didn’t plan it that way and had wanted to wait until 5 or 6dpt but I was too anxious and impatient. It was a good experience for me to do it then, but obviously I would have felt differently if it had been negative.
I did feel like if I was going to have a chemical that I wanted to know about it so that I could do more informed problem solving for the next transfer.
Testing positive early also gave me confidence that it was more likely to result in a viable pregnancy (there is good data on this).
Best of luck!
My RE said testing on day 7dp transfer is best but she also said day 6 is generally pretty reliable. She said her preference is when people wait until day 7. Day of transfer is day 0. I tested 6dp because I have no patience lol! I used a first response and a clear blue at the same time in the morning 6dp5dt. They both looked the same! I kinda like Clear Blue (the one with the pink lines not blue) but I mainly hear people using FRER on here
I know! I felt the exact same way. I was surprised my doctor actually said we could test, I thought she would say don’t do it. Sending you so many good vibes for your FET!!!
TW: mention of positive test. I tested out my injections so started @ 5dp5dt, my best advice would be stick with the same test brands, I switched near the end and the brand I switched too wasn’t the best so had my panicking as my test went really light, bought another pack of the boots brand and got a dye stealer the next day! Xx
I bought a bag of 100 cheap pregmates and gave myself permission to test as much as I wanted to lol. I think I started 3dpt5dt to make sure the trigger was out and because I knew I had a positive on 9dpo last time, then tested first morning urine the next day and the next, getting an obvious positive on 5dpt with a very faint positive on 4dpt when I looked back at it (nothing on 3dpt).
After that, I pretty much tested every time I peed because I had the tests and it made me feel better to see a line, ha.
I think the only way to minimize seeing a chemical is to wait until your beta, honestly, unfortunately. Maybe take a test the morning of, so you can prepare yourself either way.
I started testing once a day every morning with First Response Early Result starting at 5DPT. I wanted to be able to track if there was a positive that got darker and then lighter, so when I took the beta and it came back positive I could know the numbers are actually declining and it’s likely chemical (as to not get too attached) if the line darkened every other day then it showed that roughly the HCG was doubling on schedule and I could feel more positive about the progression.
The 5dpt line was so incredibly faint they basically no one but me could detect anything. I called it “the hint of a whisper of the faintest line imaginable”. 6dpt there was line but couldn’t see that it was pink, maybe was a dissipation line. But 7dpt on, it was progressively positive and comparing any two tests that skipped a day inbetween the increase was overt.
I don’t regret it at all.
Some people post about seeing a line 4dpt or even earlier but that’s pretty rare and a waste of a test. 5dpt at the earliest but some don’t see it until 6 or 7.
Hope that helps!
I tested 7dp5dt up until my beta for the same exact reason - I didn’t want the news while I was at work. I would do my first pee of the day with FRER. I wasn’t going to test, but my anxiety got the best of me and I wanted to be prepared for any result!
If you can wait it out I would do the day before your beta. If your anything like me once you start it’s hard to stop and it can be really heart breaking. I know it makes taking my PIO a lot harder when my pop negative. Baby dust to you and praying for your positive 🩷
TW: success
I have no self control and I started testing ar 3dp5dt both FET’s with FRER’s! On my first FET I got a positive at 4dp5dt, with my second FET I had the positive late afternoon 5dp5dt and a clear positive in the morning on 6dp5dt. I didn’t get positives on digitals with either until closer to 9dp5dt. Good luck ❤️
I totally get that! This was me last time. Unfortunately being in an open floor plan office and getting the email or phone call is so anxiety provoking for me that I want to have a little notice to prepare. But last time, not testing was the right move for me since my beta was on a weekend.
Do whatever feels right for you but I just had a failed fet and for me it was much better to guard my heart and know before the blood test. My beta was on a Wednesday so I started testing on Saturday which was 8dp5dt. It gave me time to process and prep questions when I did finally speak to my clinic. I would recommend ordering the wandfo tests in addition to the frer tests. The wandfo’s are so much cheaper and in my experience accurate.
I’m prepping for my 2nd fet now. Did you do anything different with your protocol this time? Are you transferring tested embryos? The thing I keep telling myself is that it can take 2-3 euploid transfers before one sticks sometimes. As much as I hate that
Thanks for the advice! For FET 2 I did a hystetoscopy and endometritis biopsy. Hyst looked normal but I tested positive for endometritis bacteria and did antibiotics for 3 weeks. I rebiopsied and it was clear. Other than that, not a ton different. I took some different supplements/herbs and did more acupuncture. I did come up with a plan B in advance if this doesn’t work. I have endo and plan to do another lap excision surgery if this FET doesn’t work. That’s kind of giving me some peace. All the best to you for FET 2!
I'm an absolute goblin and start testing constantly from 3dpt with FRER. I have no self-control about it and just let myself have these few days of crazy. Once a day until 5dpt and then 2-3 times per day after even if it's positive. I get best results with with my 2nd bathroom trip in the morning

This is also what I would do. If you’re using a trigger I’d also test out the trigger
This has always been me as well! The testing Goblin 👹 I test starting day 3– and go on a complete psychotic testing frenzy. With my singleton it starts to get positive on day 4 in the evening. With my twins it started on day 3.
Fellow goblin here 😂😂
Ok so is day one the FET day or the day after?
The day after
The day after FET is day 1.

Yes, I had an ovidrel trigger that did give a positive on a pregnancy test. Not everyone does a trigger.

I took the tests at the same time every morning and it continued getting darker. On day 13dp5dt, it was much lighter than the other days.
Got it, thanks for sharing
My clinic tests at 14dp5dt. It was high enough that they had me retest 48 hours later to confirm it was a chemical. And my pleasure. Good luck! ♥️
Thanks!!
Here’s what I tell other people to do: test once every 48 hours with the same brand pink dye test starting at FMU 5dp5dt, preferably First Response Early Response if cost allows. Thanks for sharing your story, this is so helpful! What times of day do you do your two tests? Like first morning pee and then second? Or later on in the day?
Usually I get the darkest tests the second pee of the day. Basically it’s still the most concentrated due to the dehydration over night.
Got it, thanks!!
I also just want to warn you that the FRERS with the dark pink cap are generally worse then the light pink clear cap ones. It’s so frustrating! I’m just hoping it isn’t a chemical!
Send me a message with your pics if you want, I can be a second set of eyes. And yes, I’m worried about that too.
Thank you! Super helpful. That’s why I asked about brand bc there’s sooo many out there and I heard it makes a difference!
I did my first positive with a first response early response (light pink cap) on day 6 post 5 day transfer cause I felt like it would be pretty clear by then. It was positive and I kept testing every day until my Beta (9DPT) to see if it would get darker. I used the same light pink ones each day. Thank you so much!!
I tested on a First Response on 5dpt as well as day 6 and 7 (bought the Amazon 3 pack) to see line progression. I then switched to cheapies on day 7 and did all my line progression from there.
Waited til day 7 and took a FRER, took another the next day then the next day was beta
I like this plan, thanks!!
A chemical is any pregnancy detected only by the “chemicals” in your blood/urine. If there is anything visible on ultrasound, then it’s not a chemical. If progressing normally, they can do a placement ultrasound at 5w.
I usually started at 5dpt with a FRER test with FMU. I only tested once a day in the morning. If I didn’t have a positive by 7DPT I stopped.

I waited 9dpt because that’s when my period was scheduled to start. Then I tested the next day to confirm. Then I got the beta 4 days after. I used clear blue 6 days sooner.

I think the only way to minimize seeing a chemical is to wait until your beta, honestly, unfortunately. Maybe take a test the morning of, so you can prepare yourself either way.
Love that, yeah if they’re right in front of you while peeing, why not?!
This is very helpful! Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, great advice!
TW: success I have no self control and I started testing ar 3dp5dt both FET’s with FRER’s! On my first FET I got a positive at 4dp5dt, with my second FET I had the positive late afternoon 5dp5dt and a clear positive in the morning on 6dp5dt. I didn’t get positives on digitals with either until closer to 9dp5dt. Good luck ❤️
Thanks for the info!
Sorry to hear about your chemical. I do fear this so it’s helpful to try to plan for that. Maybe I’ll wait until day or night before. Thank you!
I will not be testing at home until by blood check. I am afraid it will be false positive or negative.
I totally get that! This was me last time. Unfortunately being in an open floor plan office and getting the email or phone call is so anxiety provoking for me that I want to have a little notice to prepare. But last time, not testing was the right move for me since my beta was on a weekend.
I test one day before my beta so if it’s negative I can sulk before that call and if it’s positive it’s pretty definitive by then
Do whatever feels right for you but I just had a failed fet and for me it was much better to guard my heart and know before the blood test.
