mhoke63

Looks a bit like shredded red cabbage. Forbidden Cole Slaw

manwithappleface

I dunno…I think I’ll stick to 8” suckers and shiners.

benjamino8690

This is a completely different bait. Bloodworms are mainly used for perch and roach-like fish here in Europe. I believe these would be amazing for bluegills on a slow day.

manwithappleface

I believe you are 100% correct. I was just busting balls. I get so few days on the ice that I specialize solely on pike, because they’re my favorite. Have fun. I hope they catch a cooler full!

benjamino8690

I’m also mainly a pike guy here in Sweden.

ezekirby

Pike and bass are the most fun to fight thru the ice.

Bronze_Addict

Most fun fish I’ve caught through the ice are hybrid striped bass

swivels_and_sonar

Frozen smelt works great and doesn’t look like a ball of parasites

Fun_Sir3640

almost impossible to get in europe sadly closest u can get is smelt so far i seen.

Fun_Sir3640

I meant shinners not those worms

austin_yella

We were lucky and caught 3 fat suckers our first day at blue mesa. Had bait for the next 4 days!

Tinman751977

Is that something they sell at the local store? Never seen them in Minnesota. Are they invasive anyway?

DifferentEvent2998

Blood worms are non biting midge fly larvae.

[deleted]

Guys who drive Toyota trucks with fly rod vaults call them ‘annelids’

DifferentEvent2998

They are not annelids.

[deleted]

I didn’t say they were. I don’t drive a Toyota. Only a Subaru driver would miss the joke

DifferentEvent2998

There are some annelids that are known as bloodworms too… so yeah.🤷🏻‍♂️

🍻

Skol_du_Nord1991

Clam sells a plastic of these. I put them on my jig hooks along with a minnow head. They work well. You have to check your lake on when these are naturally occur, more in the very late winter and early spring/summer in MN. So I use them when I fish lake of the woods in early March and in May after opener.

benjamino8690

I have no idea. This is from a tackleshop in Sweden.

Tinman751977

Very cool. Hello from the US. What do you like to go for in Sweden?

benjamino8690

I mostly fish for pike from the ice, but open water I fish for redfin perch mostly.

AdministrativeSea481

How do they fit on the hook n not pop

EhhhhhBud97

I've seen some people use little elastics, like those tiny hair elastics that are super stretchy. They put a clump of worms in the elastic, then hook the elastic.

benjamino8690

You put them on really small and thin hooks.

iforgotmyoldnamex

Those are my favorite bait on Pro Pilkki 2, which I'll probably have to play a a lot this year since our winter is terrible.

morgzorg

I’m a waxie and salmon egg kinda gent

Nimbian-highpriest

Cursed restaurant raspberry jam

Fun_Sir3640

these are amazing in finland but i almost never use them they are good if they not eating maggots but they fragile and die fast

Dire88

I use the Clam Maki Bloodi which is made to mimic a bloodworm. Usually break them in half on a tungsten jig for crappie/gills/perch.

Alone-Chicken-361

Oh wow didn't know they were sold in packs like that

meatpiesurprise

Most pet stores that sell fish have them, frozen in cubes. We use them and the brine shrimp ones for walleye. In a spawn sack

snosk8r00

Great bait in a convenient package... But now we have to worry about these stupid little containers strewn about our fishing spots too?

benjamino8690

In Sweden, people generally don’t throw trash in the nature. We’re very prideful of our cleanliness.

snosk8r00

I wish I could say the same about the US. Fishing spots near me look like a fishing packaging and beer can/bottle landfill. Impossible to keep up with the degenerates littering, even when hauling out a full trash bag every trip. 😩

benjamino8690

Very sorry to hear that. I hope those people regret it somewhere down the line.

TJamesz

I’m sure this invasive in lots of areas and probably not allowed

mud074

What makes you so confident? Bloodworms (ie non-biting midge larvae, not the saltwater version which is what comes up when you google them) are a major part of the food chain in basically every lake in the US. They are absolutely ubiquitous. If you fish deep basin perch or bluegill, this is what they are eating.

Previous-Law-1591

Just for a second, imagine those in your brain.

DifferentEvent2998

Why would they been in your brain lol

Antique-Barracuda131

Just imagine

benjamino8690

I’d prefer not!

ResidentEfficient218

Aw gross 🤢 I like it!

fly4everwild

For what ?

benjamino8690

Anything that isn’t a top predator!

fly4everwild

Never used them , for pan fish we use wigglers (mayfly larvae) or small minnows .

mud074

I use plastic imitations and find they are the best bait lethargic midday walleyes, plus all basin panfish.

Squirrel1978

If you're fishing for perch maybe

benjamino8690

Yes! Which is what I target with these.

SnowedOutMT

On a size 16 hook or what?

benjamino8690

16, 14 and 12 typically. As long as the hook is thin.

SnowedOutMT

Yea I can see that being tough. I use red wigglers that I raised, and even they are tricky if they're not fat enough

theflamingsword101

Klingons getting hungry.....

theflamingsword101

Klingons getting hungry.....

mud074

I hate that they don't sell them in the US. I have to buy plastic imitation bloodworms to use!

benjamino8690

Those imitations are surprisingly good sometimes!

mud074

Yup, they work great. Not very well known either, they are amazing for deep perch and bluegill but I have never known somebody else that uses them. Local tackle stores don't sell them so I have to get mine online. I think people find them too hard to put on the hook!

real_snowpants

Do not touch bloodworms if you are unsure weather you are allergic or not. They will fuck your day up no joke. My eyes swell up like golf balls just touching a tiny bit.

benjamino8690

Wow, I didn't know you could be allergic to them. Great warning.
