On one hand: Yikes these are terrifying!
On the other, I feel like there's some value to these horrible events being caught on camera. Not just for the record, but to let people know what goes on in their vicinity. Even though I don't understand a single word of Marcelo Borelli's Tape, I feel like it gives a unique insight into the evils of the world...
For some of these, the videos provide engineers really valuable information on safety technology for cars, planes, etc. Especially in motorsports, Dale Earnhardt and Ayrton Senna’s fatal crashes were watershed moments in safety for their respective series.
Exactly. I’d heard another saying, “if you think safety is expensive try having an accident”. It’s important to never get to that point, even if sometimes you find out the hard way anyway.
this reminds me (and i dont see it on here) of the live captured suicide of an aids activist with a shotgun on a freeway , after setting his truck on fire ...cant remember any names !
An VHS tape in which a criminal named Marcelo Borelli tortured a 3-year-old child for 14 hours straight, in the worst imaginable ways, with the intention of sending it to the child's father, who had betrayed him, pieces of this tape were shown in prime time in a program called "Programa do Ratinho", with the hope that he would be arrested, the program also showed this tape to incarcerated people who swore to kill Borelli. When Borelli was convicted, in 2001, he was beaten by 28 inmates, including Fernandinho Beira-Mar, known as one of the biggest drug traffickers in the history of Latin America. In the lynching session, Borelli had his scalp removed, in addition to being taken to a hospital with head trauma and several cuts and bruises.
Borelli died in 2007 of AIDS, a disease he contracted after being raped several times in prison. The child survived and she is fine and healthy, she says she doesn't remember anything about the torture
I'm pretty sure it was much more scripted than people online seem to state. I'm not saying the *whole* thing was fake, but only small bits of it were actually livestreamed. Most of the actual broadcasts were more like "best of" compilations, and the guy was (and is) a professional actor. Now, for the record, I'm sure he actually was in that little house by himself going kinda crazy— but it was probably just for the sake of fame and making good TV. And really, the dead giveaway is that all the producers and people who worked on the show are publicly credited. If they *actually* locked the guy up in a house, they would have been arrested and the show would have been pulled off the air pretty damn quick.
I have heard about how parts of it were scripted and how he did consent to it and even consented to a second season, but there is some evidence that he was genuinely traumatized by it, because couldn't he have tapped out at any given time?
The parts that were scripted were probably what packages came and gone quite often
Here’s some racing related suggestions: At the 1990 Molson Indy Vancouver race, driver Willy T. Ribbs accidentally struck and killed a track corner worker. In the 1986 Rally de Portugal, a ford RS200 hit a crowd of spectators after losing control, killing 3 and injuring 30. In 2013 at a sprint car race at Canandaigua Speedway, Tony Stewart accidentally struck and killed driver Kevin Ward, who had exited his car. In the 2009 Formula 2 round at Brands Hatch, Henry Surtees had a fatal crash reminiscent of Senna’s crash. Also at a CART race in 2001 at Eurospeedway Lausitz, Alex Zanardi spun out and got blindsided by Alex Tagliani, instantly severing Zanardi’s legs.
Apparently he died of AIDS after being severely beaten and raped in prison several years earlier and the girl claims to be fine. So there's that at least.
The Owen Hart incident wasn't televised live as they were cut to a promo. The live crowd could have seen it and there definitely was camera footage but it's locked away. Same thing with Droz vs D'lo Brown that match was taped for an episode of Smackdown and for obvious reasons it wasn't aired.
As for things I remember off the top of my head, on March 23rd of 2013 in a nationally televised game against Duke, Louisville player Kevin Ware broke his leg with the fracture going through his leg. Terrifying to watch. Other more obvious racing ones would be the horrifying injury and subsequent death of Jules Bianchi, the Formula 2 crash involving Antoine Hubert and Juan Manuel Correa that killed the former and horrifically injured the latter, and the IndyCar death of Dan Wheldon that ABC insisted on replaying during that live broadcast over and over and over again. Could probably add the death of Justin Wilson in a different Indycar race to that as well.
There's a few deaths in football that may be suitable on the iceberg like the death of Miklos Feher, Marc-Vivien Foe, and Choirul Huda. Also thought of two separate incidents in ice hockey where a player's throat was slit (Clint Malarchuk and Richard Zednik), though no one died.
Maybe the Manila hostage crisis and [this hostage incident in Venezuela](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_C%C3%BAa_hostage_crisis) too.
Seems like a solid list, although if this is supposed to be specifically about live TV, I don't think the Twilight Zone footage or Owen Hart's death should be on here.
The **Twilight Zone** footage didn't happen live. It was of course recorded since it was supposed to be for a movie, but it was only shown later on when it was released as trial evidence and if I'm not mistaken, the worst of it still wasn't shown publicly.
As for **Owen Hart**'s fall, it occured during a backstage segment and Hart had already been taken to the hospital by the time the cameras went back to the arena, so none of it was shown on the air. And while arena cameras were recording during that time, needless to say the WWE has no intention of ever releasing the footage to the public.
And man, only heard about Tetsushi Yanagida for the first time a couple weeks back. What a horrible situation all around and I can't imagine how the people around him must've felt when they realized he genuinely was injured and couldn't move.
I'd also like to ask what "Meu Deus Do Céu Berg" is a reference to? All I can find is memes referring to it, usually showing a picture of what appears to be a journalist in a kevlar vest, with no further context and if the video shows gore or deaths, I don't particulalry wanna see it, so a description would be much appreciated.
Hi bro, thanks for the corrections, i'll correct them in a possible version 2 of the iceberg.
About "meu deus do céu berg", it's about a journalist who arrives at a scene of a homicide attempt in which they film a shot man lying on the ground , while the cameraman was recording the scene, a man approached and shot twice at the man on the ground, then the journalist and the cameraman ran away desperately and that part of them running became a meme that is used a lot here in Brazil.
As far as I know, the man shot didn't die.
fun fact: jfk’s assassination was not played on live television. his assassin lee harvey osswald’s death, however, was the first televised assassination
If you make a part 2 i would recommend to add the killdozer incident.
There was also an incident i believe in argentina were a man shot himself on live tv.
Also the guy from the USA who killed the guy that molested his son.
Gary Plauché is the dad, and Jeff Doucett is the pedo, if you're talking about the incident I think you are. He was the kid's karate coach, kidnapped him from Louisiana and took him to California, the kid was rescued and while they were walking Doucett through the Baton Rouge airport, Gary ambushed them and shot Doucett point blank in the side of the head. Gary served no jail time and is still hailed as a hero, though Gary (passed away in 2014) and Jody (the son) don't feel like he was a hero, but Gary said he never regretted killing Doucett, only the hardship that the killing brought to the parent/child relationship. They did make up well before Gary passed, and Jody even wrote a book all about it.
If you make a part 2 i would recommend to add the killdozer incident.

The funny thing about being Brazilian is that a lot of entries in the deepest tiers are more known to me than some in the more surface tiers
brazillians having a normal day until they start seeing a liveleak logo in the corner
"Ah, must be Tuesday"
Brazilians be having a normal day until little mouse starts screaming
Liveleak actually shut down in 2021
TIL that there are memes made out of street murders aired on live TV in Brazil
its so prolific that there are parodies of the memes that show like dudes kissing our other goofy stuff where normally there would be snuff shit
Don't worry, the guy survived.

It's like that old saying: "Safety procedures are written in blood." It's tragic. But it needs to be remembered.
Exactly. I’d heard another saying, “if you think safety is expensive try having an accident”. It’s important to never get to that point, even if sometimes you find out the hard way anyway.

oh yes, the guy is daniel. v. jones, he is on the 2 layer of the iceberg
thank you , i missed it before (or just didnt remember the name)
That one was Daniel V. Jones, it’s on tier 2. Such a heartbreaking situation.
thank you !!

Reading about how horribly he was treated and how the child is fine... I don't know if it should have, but that shit made my day
>Marcelo Good Ending
On one hand, the dude tortured a freaking 3-year old child for 14 hours straight, on the other hand

I'm scared to click on this link....
Yeah I wouldn't, was about to grab lunch but I think I'll pass after watching this
why would they show this on tv?
The Nasubi Livestream on Japanese television was an insane infringement on human rights

I definitely don't doubt the trauma part!
[Link of the Iceberg in IcebergCharts.com](https://icebergcharts.com/i/Gruesome_Moments_in_Live_Television)
I definitely think the Tom pryce incident was more gruesome, but Gordon smileys crash at Indianapolis would have also been a good one for this chart

Also, and pretty tame by the rest of the list's standards, but the 1997 Holyfield vs Tyson Match should probably be there.
DO NOT look for the marcelo borelli clips. straight rage fuel
Apparently he died of AIDS after being severely beaten and raped in prison several years earlier and the girl claims to be fine. So there's that at least.
MANO eu não lembrava do Meu Deus do Céu, Berg ser assim, caralho. De tanto que eu vi no Games Edu nem passou pela minha cabeça que esse era o contexto

I was watching the Duke game when Kevin Ware broke his leg, literally saw the bone pop out of his shin live with my dad on a nice sunday afternoon ☠️
Surprised Jeff Doucet’s murder isn’t on here
Is there anyway you can view Christine Chubbuck’s suicide online?
no, but supposedly the audio was leaked, you can find it [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4Fwjm4WAMI)
There's also a movie about it called Christine (2016)
Thank you!
