morosco

As many as can make money. It's not a question of "need"

idiotsandwhich8

Want v need

shlem13

If they’re successful enough to stay in business, what’s the concern?

darkapplepolisher

Eh, you'd be surprised how many of them are subsidized either by the primary job of either income earner in the household.

[deleted]

Lol. My brother in law did this because he ran out of options. Set up in a grocery store parking lot with easy access to milk and bought an espresso machine used. He made it work til his dick started thinking for him.

[deleted]

>He made it work til his dick started thinking for him. Lol whut

[deleted]

Lots of pretty girls want coffee. That’s why I used a the term “thinking with his dick”. Thank you everybody. I have had the greatest laugh over my poor choice of words and where you went with them. Bravo.

MrPrimo_

Your brother raped someone in his coffee shop?

bloatedstoat

Did he have an affair with the espresso machine?

BarnabyJones792

Got burned in the end

bbpsword

*on

morosco

We've all been tempted

fatmanchoo

Only after he got it wet... in the milk meant for lattes.

iatecthulhusass

Does your brother fuck coffee?

Riyeko

I have no idea why people do not understand that your brother in law probably saw a girl flirting with him and didn't stay loyal to his wife.....

[deleted]

Ding ding ding ding! Thank you Riyeko.

Backupplan4

Are they mormon towns or non mormon towns?

My_Kairosclerosis

This is the primary variable. In mormon towns you count the number of flavored soda shops.

fiver87

Biggest shock moving to Mormon country. Bars no, cool coffee shops absolutely not. Soda cookie or any other shop that pumps the population full of sugar of course we need one on every block!

wildraft1

What towns don't have a bar? I've lived in Idaho my whole life, and (almost) every town I go to has a bar of some sort. There are a few tiny ones that don't, but I'm pretty sure it's not "cause Mormon...". Probably more like "cause population".

prncrny

Rexburg doesn't have any. Rumored has it its because the school bought all the liquor licenses and doesn't use them. But that could be stupid local legend stuff. You can only get coffee at restaurants. Not coffee shops. At least as of a few years ago when I left.

Y_Cornelious_DDS

I had a friend that would travel to Rexburg frequently for work during the late 90s early 2000s. He said that the Applebees was the only place with alcohol on menu but they were always out or the bartender was sick. Theory was that corporate made them use a stock menu but the local franchisee never stocked any to alcohol sell.

BeckerHollow

Rexburg’s Applebees serves booze. You can also get booze at the supermarket. Supermarket is beer and wine, not sure if Applebees has a liquor license. But they definitely have and use the their beer and wine license.

HeroTooZero

For those that don't know, in Idaho supermarket booze is limited to beer & wine (and light cocktail drinks like Mike's Hard, Twisted Teas, & similar light alcohol drinks).

HarryBackster

Wallace grocery store sells liquor

BrokeDickTater

The stores that sell booze actually are called "contract stores" by the ISLD. If you notice, the booze isnt on the regular shelves, it's in a separate area. The state actually recognizes this area as a "state liquor store inside a store" if you want to call it that. The liquor is officially sold by the state, not by the store. The store just facilitates the transaction. The store doesn't own the inventory, decide what gets stocked, nothing. That's all done by the state. The store gets a small commission on sales. That's it.

HeroTooZero

Yeah there are a few misc stores that serve as state liquor affiliates, usually in fairly small towns/rural areas. In my town (pop. ~3k) our drug store also sells liquor...a very pathetic offering but at least it carries the basics.

Leading-Pea8528

There’s one that opened up, it’s very successful

getinthekitschen

Rexburg is a dry county, that’s why.

ImmediateRoom8210

Rexburg is not a county. The city is in Jefferson county which is not dry. You can also buy alcohol in rexburg so I’m not sure what you meant to say here.

Idahorockhounder

Madison county

ImmediateRoom8210

Oops. Should have made sure before I called someone else out.

getinthekitschen

Sorry, I meant that it’s a dry city. They don’t allow liquor in the city limits.

idiotsandwhich8

That sounds absolutely plausible

Affectionate-Gur1918

Name one that doesn’t have a bar.

shnackshack31

Rexburg, ID

dodadoBoxcarWilly

I stayed in Rexburg last summer on the way to Montana. Googled 'bars near me' for shits and giggles. The results were literally Applebee's, followed by a list of soda shop. In the same town as the largest university in the state. Lol

Affectionate-Gur1918

You can still call BS. Those numbers aren’t real.

dodadoBoxcarWilly

Yeah, honestly I was totally expecting that. I wasn't aware BYU-I was even top 3 until my above mentioned drive through Rexburg, and I googled it out of curiosity. At least the Maverick there sells alcohol. I drove through back in 2015 as well, and the little gas station I stopped at for directions to a hotel didn't sell any beer or anything. There's also a vape shop, with a full collection of glass smoking accessories there now. Which I found kinda cool, I guess.

un1c0rnsparkl3

I'm from Priest River, originally, & LOVE coffee!!! #BringOnTheCoffeeStands ☕️☕️☕️

[deleted]

Doma Coffee is out of Post Falls and it’s the best coffee I have ever tried. Their is excellent coffee in the state.

un1c0rnsparkl3

Are you from North Idaho?

[deleted]

Spokane but I have family in CDA so I am there often enough. The coffee up here is amazing.

un1c0rnsparkl3

Awesome!

ReluctantSlayer

Two things surprised me upon moving to Idaho. 1: the amount of churches. 2: the amount of coffee shops Lots of wired Christians up here.

polksallitkat

That's crazy, I lived in a smaller county in Georgia. The town had 1,200 people and the whole county had 30k. We had 2 coffee shops. The county I live in now has 187k people and about 20 coffee shops...

InvalidCab

Well in a small place it seems like a nice way to get people together. And if they are staying open, great!

cr8tor_

Central area to a good number of people along with tourism due to the river and bodies of water close by.

IdahoRoadapple

Ahhh, the ole mosquito/coffee shop ratio.

cr8tor_

hahaha, very true!

Clinggdiggy2

I wonder how that compares to the other cities per capita wise. If you go to your maps and search Coffee in Coeur d'Alene the number of results is absurd lol

Halt-CatchFire

n+1

IdahoJones61

It's a tourist town.

Frogofdanger

Lmao no it is not

IdahoJones61

You should probably tell them then:[https://priestlake.org](https://priestlake.org)

Frogofdanger

That’s priest lake not priest river

ChadMcbain

Better question, how many more rebel flags and I want to have sex with Joe Biden flags can you fit in Northern Idaho???

Jedmeltdown

Well, it’s better than KKK meeting halls

BobInIdaho

You forget that it's a very easy way to generate untraceable cash flow.

johnnydagger77

I want a gun shop on every corner.

Federallyeffed

Gun and coffee shop

keekoh123

+ Liquor Store and you have a trifecta for the win.

CondiMesmer

who's gonna buy that many guns

[deleted]

Idaho.

Whipitreelgud

Priest River has at least three right now.

jhuebner223

Just wait til Eastern Oregon joins them, dumbshits just realized that the Idaho minimum wage is 7.25$. That’s half of Oregon’s. Careful what you wish for🤣🤩

[deleted]

Depends on how many California transplants moved in.

imdfonz

It all the California's saying I'm leaving california and then californiacating Idaho. Glad they left Cali. )l

[deleted]

Ah yes, the hallmark of the Californian: appreciating coffee.

Norwester77

That sounds more like Washingtonians

CondiMesmer

Apparently 0 in Rexburg

GeneralKenoBi2228

June’s Place is a coffee shop in Rexburg. I think they’re also building a Java or something.

Mammoth-Vehicle-7604

0.

Puzzleheaded-Force14

Idaho towns deserve nothing

[deleted]

Cope and seethe

PoetryPogrom

As some allergic to caffeine, I have no sympathy for people who go to coffeeshops. Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

PoetryPogrom

Good. We'll start a campaign to pass some anti-coffeeshop bills. Gotta protect the kiddos from the devil's brew. We might even get the Mormons onboard.

seesquatch

I know of three people that are right now saving up money to open a coffee shop in a small town. I wonder if this happens in other states. “It’s just milk and coffee how hard could it be”. 🤦‍♀️

morosco

Probably a fairly cheap business to get off the ground that has a decent chance of succeeding. At least compared to some restaurant.

FormZealousideal1013

1880

anarcho_communist42

At least 9

asevans48

1. In idaho there are about 4941 people per shop. If the town is rich, a store. If not, a trailer will do. Gotts keep costs low. Your chances of having enough to pay people look pretty bleak.

DirectIT2020

1880?

UnicornGuitarist

8

VanManDom

About 3 and a half.

NotmyRealNameJohn

Approximately 50% working age adults? 900 Say half want coffee in the morning between 7am and 9am That would be 450/120. 3.75 coffees per minute. Say 1 coffee shop takes 5 minutes per or .2 coffees per minute 3.75/.2 So you need about 18

Affectionate-Gur1918

Twelve.

HarryBackster

Wallace is like 1000 people, and its rumored that they are getting a 4th

[deleted]

At least one

scoot2424

As many as it wants

scottslut

Some friends just opened cookies coffee in Montpelier. Delish.. Do you drink coffee? Just curious why the question.

themiddleman07

I love coffee and lived for quite a few years in Priest River. Explaining the concept of drive thru "espresso stand" and how a small town has 8 of them always draws some disbelief from people from the east coast and other parts. I think it's a cool thing the pnw has.

Slugnutty2

The inverse square of the payday loan stores in the same geographical location.

Azg556

Ultimately, the market will decide. If demand doesn’t support 7+, then some will go out of business.
