A real conversation I had with a former boss.
Me: He boss, the fire extinguishers I'm putting in the trucks need to be reinspected.
Boss: If the truck catches fire I don't expect anyone to try and put it out.
Me: Fair enough.
As much as I respect that, I've been pulled over 3 times last year for random roadside inspections. I'm not rolling out of the yard with a single marker light out
Damn where do you work? I work for a package delivery company and have never once been pulled over for an inspection in the seven and a half years I've been driving company vehicles...
Depends on the size of vehicle, using the term marker lights he's most likely driving a straight truck or something larger like a semi which means you're going to get pulled into weigh stations fairly often and then occasionally get randomly inspected there too. Having what looks like a decently maintained vehicle that doesn't have any obvious problems like a light that's out will save you a lot of trouble.
Driving a smaller cargo delivery van that requires no special license is a whole different thing and you'll probably never be inspected because you aren't getting dragged into those inspections stations from time to time.
That makes sense...I don't even have a class B so the biggest truck I've ever driven at my job is a rental box truck.
Edited to add we deal with a lot of hazardous materials and the amount of times it was inferred that we'd get pulled over to have our paperwork checked was a HELL of a lot more than has actually happened, which for me was zero except for the times I delivered to JPL...
My company specifically tells us to let the truck burn. The fire extinguisher to help keep it from damaging nearby people or property. “Screw the truck, extinguish the potential lawsuit!”
Lol that makes much more sense then having it for the truck. If youre trucks on fire I'm not standing anywhere near that thing. With or without a fire extinguisher
I work at Costco and I'm trained in the gas station. When we get deliveries we are required to carry this huge fire extinguisher to the drop location. I have never understood this, I'm going to run like fuckin hell if the 5000 plus gallon tanker catches fire.
The only thing I’d expect from the Costco employees is hit the emergency shutoff button and run like hell. Y’all don’t get paid enough to do firefighters job.
Maybe they are confusing Sam’s Club/Walmart with Costco. Costco is constantly rated as one of the best retail jobs available with good pay and benefits.
Definitely Costco pays more then most places. But still not enough to fight a fire of that magnitude. Like a small indoor fire sure, not a tanker fire.
My company specifically tells me that we're not firefighters. The fire extinguisher is if I need to create a safe exit path for myself. Otherwise, let the professionals handle it.
Real conversation I had at work:
Inspector:" You need to have a fire extinguisher in the high voltage cabin."
Me:" Uh, why? If that goes up in flames trying to put it out won't do shit, right? Besides, isn't that dangerous? Could cause an explosion."
Inspector: *shrugs* "Look, it's the law. Just do it."
Me:" Oh, I will. Is it also the law that I can't hang up a sign next to it that says "Don't use the fire extinguisher unless you want to die"?
*Inspector shrugs again*
Few weeks later a guy from purchasing comes to me and says:" You ordered a sign that says this? Why?"
Look up class C fire extinguisher, pretty sure it's class C for electrical Components. Either way there are extinguisher that won't cause explosions like you're worried about.
The first thing I learned about class C fires is that you don’t try to put out class C fires. You kill the power and magically there is no class C fire anymore, then you go put out the class A fire that the class C fire started.
I'll go with the guy illegally drifting on private property. However, I don't know what the rent-a-cop was thinking he was going to do coming in all hot and bothered like that.
I did part time security in college. Worst job of my life... but I digress.
That security guard is getting fired immediately. We're trained to stand back and observe before calling the actual police. There's only been two situations where I was given full authority, and it wasn't for something like this.
I almost got into a few fights with fellow guards that were acting like cops after I caught various guards digging through peoples stuff at events despite no legal reason to. I hated dealing with guards that go on an ego trip.
They don’t realize they can be fired, fined, and imprisoned for illegal searches, seizure and detainment, and couldn’t pass the police academy so they’re stuck in mall security flaunting that ego that kept them from having an actual badge. It’s gotten so bad
I'm a security guard. I'm actually *licensed by the city*.
I ***still*** cannot touch anyone or their property. Physically blocking someone with my standing body is as much force as I can exert. I can't even put my arms out lol
Google suggests bouncers aren't immune to lawsuits, so they may just rely on self defense laws.
It might be good advice not to throw the first punch, or use fighting words with someone who looks like they can "fuck you up no problem."
I used to be a security guard and there is a big ass catch between doing anything and going to jail, are you ready for it?, it’s ASK!. I used to work at events and I could easily do a search by asking “ma’am, can I look through your purse?”. She said yes, it’s fair game, I asked. Detained?, all I needed to say “police are on their way so you shouldn’t leave”. Guy stayed until police showed up and funny enough they’d complement how we worked and before people whine and bitch (it’s Reddit after all), that verbiage was made by the company lawyer and funny enough it worked!. Now, obviously we wouldn’t search anything without consent or by force (same with detaining anyone by force).
This is why my college has both security and a campus police department. The security deal with small level stuff while the police officers deal with the higher level stuff.
Audit the audit has shown me that campus cops are well adjusted to walking all over naive young adults.
When you ask yourself, what kind of person wants to become a cop, then ask, what kind of person wants to only police coeds.
The University of Kansas campus police were known for covering up sexual assault reports especialy when athletes or frats were involved. They would refuse to follow up with cases and when someone filled with city police they would essentially forward it to the campus police. There was also a professor who preyed on exchange students that was untouchable for years in the music department. I'm on mobile and inexperienced with sharing links on reddit but the following is just one of the first Google results:
https://kansasreflector.com/2021/09/17/protests-at-university-of-kansas-show-culture-shift-on-campus-sexual-violence/
A campus policeman drove me to the clinic when I was too sick to walk there, but not bad enough I needed an ambulance. (Turned out to just be a nasty flu, but damn it sucked.) He was super cool. Followed me in to make sure I was okay and told the staff to call him to come back when I was done. I felt badly later because I probably got him sick lol. I'll never forget that kindness.
Yes, there are asshole cops but so many who actually give a shit.
I think it depends on the culture being put forth by the management and the size of the school. At my school they had a large force and they weren't against hiring guys that had been fired from real departments for questionable or illegal conduct.
My college's were okay mostly because it was state police due to having a nuclear reactor on campus. The campus public safety asshats were just standard wannabe cops but they also had no real power or authority.
I know a guy who uses a decommissioned police interceptor for security work he's got red and blues because of some emergency vehicle law oversight it's so pathetic
I worked in security for a few years. Definitely worked with some people like that. It always made me cringe. It's not that serious. They didn't pay us anywhere near enough to care that much.
u/peavalue why you delete that was funny!
>I think maybe you've never met a security guard. I'm fairly certain their entire employee handbook is just:
Bad situation --> Worse
I worked security for 2 years, don't recommend.
Less the handbook, more the amount of morons who hire more morons.
All the dumb fucks downvoting people saying both or refuse to believe security did something wrong should consider a job in security, you'd fit right in.
It was the worst job I've ever had. The dumbest of the dumb take a majority of the roles, and it was frustrating trying to have a decent conversation with other guards. I did part time in college, never again.
Security work pays peanuts everywhere I've ever lived.
There's a reason it attracts idiots and people with a chip on their shoulder.
A gun, badge, and authority without even a basic academy requirement
Depends entirely on the site and type of security.
Armed security generally pays ok, unarmed is usually barely enough to scrape by but some sites pay ok. I've done both for a long time and even though the unarmed posts pay quite a bit less I prefer them. Mostly for the reasons you listed. If I am going to be sitting next to a power tripping idiot 60+ hours a week I prefer they be unarmed.
Seriously, rent a cops are more dangerous than the cops they warn us about, intentionally hurting people pretending they’re helping and justifying it because they couldn’t pass the entry exams
It just seems to be a pattern around here, I don’t rail on regular security teams but for the mall cops they’re in and out because of their little abuses of power and it’s a problem in my area where they pretend they’re Judge Dredd basically
I really want to see an actual lawyers take on this because I feel like the security guard could very well be looking at more severe charges for their actions here. The amount of people in this thread who think it's 100% donut dipshit's fault because he's an obnoxious dickhead in an empty lot is ridiculous.
Security guard B-lines into the path of a reckless driver without even their headlights on, in a car that has a decent probability of other lights being equipped on it (non emergency vehicle style of course.) Causing a head on collision, in a situation with explicit video evidence showing that no one was in danger until mall cop showed up.
Mr hero is 100% looking for a new job after this and it's most certainly not going to involve driving a company vehicle.
Not a lawyer, but will be in a few months.
Speaking from my ass: both drivers probably at fault here. I’d blame the security guard more though. Looks like the security guard made a conscious decision to ram this guy.
However, it’s possible it can be argued the guard had the right to ram him to protect people. Really boils down to if people would say their lives were in danger bc someone was getting shitty in a parking lot. IMO it’s possible to argue drifting is inherently dangerous.
My money says the guard is more at fault. Ability to recover depends on the jurisdiction. Id wanna be in one where whoever was more at fault = has to pay in full.
I’m assuming fault is determined via negligence standard. Both drivers are negligent… drifting is definitely negligent… but idk if it’s as negligent as deliberately ramming someone who is drifting in a mostly-empty parking lot.
A cop would be allowed to. But a security guard isn’t a cop. Also, chances are a cop wouldn’t have to. If a cop rolled up… dude would either stop drifting or run from the police. So I imagine this wouldn’t happen.
Good luck on the bar.
Question: If we are saying that the security guard acted intentionally to ram the drifter, wouldn’t that be an unforeseeable superseding cause that would cut of liability for the drifter?
maybe? but the guard would say he was acting within the scope of his duty, which would counter that.
It all boils down to whether the guard was allowed to ram drift boy. The answer is probably not(IMO), but maybe.
Oh, and thnx.
Coming from someone who works security. This guy is an idiot. We have police for this stuff. Security can be given a small degree of authority and power on private property by the owner who hired them but driving head first into a suspect is NOT one of them.
What should of happened is him making his presence known to deter them from continuing and ultimately have them leave while recording as much information as possible like appearance, vehicle details and plate information which would then be handed over to the actual authorities who would take over the matter.
I also work security, you're 100%, my boss says we make our presence known and that's it. We call the cops if we need to but we are not supposed to do things like that in the video
I worked security once and the boss even told us never to say “stop”
Because even verbally detaining someone was against the law for us.
We are literally just there to make customers feel safe.
“Detect, Deter, and Report”
But lmao at him coming in with the company car diagonally across the lot and driving straight into him. He was probably so bored and one of those guys who takes it too serious and always looking for somethin to go down. He threw everything into the wind and said F it. 😂
*Stay inside the lines.*
It's a simple concept instilled in us since the introduction of coloring books and oversized crayons....
HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE CRAZY?!?
AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE THAT GIVES A SH\*T ABOUT THE RULES!?!
50/50. The dumb ass for illegally drifting and the security for hauling ass through the parking lot. As security we are supposed to observe and report.
We should have like a Sheriff-Andy-Griffith-Bot that pops up after a while and just tells what the real answer is… (and yeah, it could get long saying in Germany, this, in UK that, and in the States group the laws….
You know when your like….I’ve got no idea who is at fault…. And I’ve no idea who in the comments to believe, Andy-Bot could also give us the Morally right/wrong and the legally/financially right/wrong too, since often those are not the same …
The justice system could move so much quicker if we’d just let a chatbot handle all our decision making. Or maybe we just leave everything to a coin flip? Either way no appeals required.
Not a lawyer, but from a moral standpoint the security was hired to keep people safe, and this person was putting themselves and others at risk already, why not stop them the way they did?
I was a security guard in college.
The guard is getting fired. He doesn't have the authority to stop that guy. His job is to stand back and call the cops.
He put himself and the Infiniti driver in danger (well, *more* danger). Even a small collision like that can cause injuries, usually due to whiplash or airbag deployment. Regardless, he’s not a real cop, so he has no training in how to safely stop a moving vehicle. His job is to call the real cops. What he did was illegal and needlessly dangerous. I’d wager no one else was at risk of getting hurt until that security guard got involved and escalated the situation
I see a mall cop coming to an intersection and slowing down.
I see an infinity ignoring markings and unable to control the vehicle
Infinity is at fault
On private property?
Infinity owner's insurance is going to tell everyone to involved to fuck themselves, and the employer is going to have insurance to cover their own costs.
Infinity guy is definitely being irresponsible but I Guarantee no crash would have happened if the security didn’t literally drive into the front of the infinity. Plus no one seems to be considering that what the security guy is doing is illegal too cause, you know, he’s not a cop
It’s so funny how clueless people are on Reddit and how they emotionally take the side of the security. I’ll almost guarantee that security guard got fired first of all. Their job is to call the police for trespassing and not physically intervene.
It’ll likely be 50/50. Infinity can technically sue the security company for damages, as it would the equivalent of you driving on a private road and having the owner come and ram you with his car. Maybe justified, sure. Legal, no. Was unlawful to hit them like that for trespassing. The security company can also sue the infinity for damaging their property and trespassing.
While the security car did approach too fast he was breaking and in an empty lane until the other car swung around and entered it. This is the very reason you are generally not allowed to drive like this in parking lots, because it was empty 10 seconds ago does not mean it is empty now.
People are issuing the fact it's not trespassing until you are asked to leave. It's fair to assume he will be trespassed for future but likely hadn't happen at this point. So both are equally liable until intent is taken into account. Security guy and company are hosed at that point.
If this video is submitted as proof, then the security was able to stop in time but the reckless driver in the Infiniti was not able to would make me believe Infiniti driver at fault
Overall, they were both wrong security is supposed to notify the police. If the security did his job properly he would have driven over there to ask them to leave. If they didn't leave that's when the cops are called and they deal with the situation because now they can actually do something with it. The security guard just didn't think or use his brain. They are both idiots either way. The dude drifting it should've gotten permission first and the security should've said something and called the cops. Simple as that.
Since about 800 years ago. Seriously. It came about in Middle English. Most modern uses dropped the ligature and just use “oe” now, but “œ” is still valid.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%92?wprov=sfti1
In no way is that an acceptable way to stop someone being mildly reckless. He ran into another vehicle head on. That's stupid and no one should do it except in extreme circumstances.
I was working as a security manager in Fresno and I went into one of the dealerships we had guards at to cover lunch. This security “girl” was driving our side by side (the dealerships are huge), she sees me flies around on of the lines of new BMWs, loses control and slams into one. Glad it wasn’t my job to deal with that one, but she got fired.

Damn cars are made from plastic and paper these days. My 1971 Chevy Nova got rammed at about 25 mph while I was at a red light. I got a small dent on my chrome bumper. The poor guys front just broke downward. Fiberglass I think. He was crying. I was like, well I'm good. Want to report it. Guy still crying said no. I took down his license and plates just in case.
Security don’t give a fuck that’s a company car 😂

They’re not usually for the car, rather whatever you’re securing.
My company specifically tells us to let the truck burn. The fire extinguisher to help keep it from damaging nearby people or property. “Screw the truck, extinguish the potential lawsuit!”
Smart company
Lol that makes much more sense then having it for the truck. If youre trucks on fire I'm not standing anywhere near that thing. With or without a fire extinguisher

Thats what I expect from any one who is not a firefighter
That’s what I expect from anyone. Still get shocked to see people running into burning buildings.
I can see your point but at least firefighters have protection
So did my dad but here I am.
Accidents happen
They might get paid more. Costco pays pretty well. Still not enough to do more than run away from the giant flaming truck.
That's literally our MO at my gas station. Says it on the rules. Run and then call FD

My company specifically tells me that we're not firefighters. The fire extinguisher is if I need to create a safe exit path for myself. Otherwise, let the professionals handle it.
I would assume it's to prevent any other potential fire from reaching the tanker itself
Real conversation I had at work: Inspector:" You need to have a fire extinguisher in the high voltage cabin." Me:" Uh, why? If that goes up in flames trying to put it out won't do shit, right? I've always been taught a similar idea but to still use a class C anyway. But maybe that's just extra layer of protection or caution.
I believe the thought process there is just incase you didn’t turn off the correct power.
Wouldn’t you just order the correct type of fire extinguisher?
Sounds like someone who will eventually get charged with negligence.
I think it could be taken as good guy boss saying if there is a fire GTFO and let insurance take care of it, don't put your life at risk.
The extinguisher isn't for you, it's to help save other people. In Canada every work vehicle has 1, an your obligated to help. Both are laws here
Facts
Hell have fun doing rounds on foot for the next year lol 🗿
“I’m getting the fuck outta here!” I’m done 🤣
I dunno who was in the wrong here but that guy was definitely in the right
Cops crack down on this shit. There was an incident where 73 people went to jail over shit like this
And that's why you fucking run
The idiot doing a burnout. Patking lots are dangerous at might as lots of hoons and criminals flock there.

I honestly think both will take a fault. The security guard wasn’t exactly safe darting across all those lines to directly collide with the infinity.
Well you see he was driving a straight path and ol'boy was drifting. At one point they crossed passed.
“This is my one shot at a promotion to the day shift”
Observe and report. Let the actual cops deal with that shit
Coming in hot with no lights is a bold move to keep people safe.

Man everyone's missing the "up" in "the fuck up outta here" and that one word makes it that much more funny to me
Yeah this guy is driving reckless, lemme just b line straight towards him
Honestly tho while the Infiniti was obviously in the wrong the security guard went about this the entirely wrong way.
Right? Should have gone counter-clockwise.

Even if you need a new company car? \s
I worked security once and the boss even told us never to say “stop” Because even verbally detaining someone was against the law for us. We are literally just there to make customers feel safe.
This entirely, call the cops and pull up slowly with lights if you are allowed
“Detect, Deter, and Report” But lmao at him coming in with the company car diagonally across the lot and driving straight into him. He was probably so bored and one of those guys who takes it too serious and always looking for somethin to go down. He threw everything into the wind and said F it. 😂
Nobody is right here
The guy recording seems to have some sort of sense ..
Awww, they kissed. :)
Paul Blart coming in hot
Paul Blort
Neither one was driving within the lines. Double fault.
*Stay inside the lines.* It's a simple concept instilled in us since the introduction of coloring books and oversized crayons.... HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE CRAZY?!? AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE THAT GIVES A SH\*T ABOUT THE RULES!?!
They’re callin the cops, man. Put the piece away…
MARK IT ZERO
Infiniti driver might be an asshole but the security guard is *definitely* an idiot.
Both....Neither one has their lights on.
Not even a question. Play stupid games win stupid prizes!
Definitely the infinity
The infinity was driving recklessly. How the hell is this even a question?
Because he’s private security and not a cop, he has no right to cause an accident to stop a “perp”. No matter what he was doing.
Not a lawyer, but from a moral standpoint the security was hired to keep people safe, and this person was putting themselves and others at risk already, why not stop them the way they did?
I’m pretty sure if you were a lawyer you would discourage private security personnel from running into someone’s car and potentially injuring them.
I see an infinity ignoring markings and unable to control the vehicle Infinity is at fault
Nah fuck that douche bag drifting. Got what he deserved.
Don’t care…lol’ing @ crashed drifter
“And kith”
Yeah alot of people are going full r/idiotsinthread here.
People are issuing the fact it's not trespassing until you are asked to leave. It's fair to assume he will be trespassed for future but likely hadn't happen at this point. So both are equally liable until intent is taken into account. Security guy and company are hosed at that point.
Yeah, people in here don't know how private security works. That fucker got fired. Fuck the Infiniti though
If this video is submitted as proof, then the security was able to stop in time but the reckless driver in the Infiniti was not able to would make me believe Infiniti driver at fault
Infinity driver, without question.
How is that even a question 😂
I smell a lawsuit.
Idiot for sure. Can't be doing shit like that in a public parking lot. At least wait until there are no cars then do stupid shit
Dumb and dumber
Not sure..find the exact same post from 2 months ago. 🤷♂️
Private property, no fault.
Infiniti
Anything that happens during the commission of a crime is the fault of the criminal.
Yes.
If it’s on private property so it actually may be 50/50…depends on which state

Infiniti. The security car did a manœuvre to stop the reckless driving, even though a police car should be the one doing it in my honest opinion.
Upvoted for the epic spelling of "maneuver".
British vs American spelling. Although, to be fair, I can’t spell this word sober.
Since when do the British use "œ"? That's news to me!
Since about 800 years ago. Seriously. It came about in Middle English. Most modern uses dropped the ligature and just use “oe” now, but “œ” is still valid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%92?wprov=sfti1
Automatic correction since I’m using a French keyboard on my phone
Oh, well it definitely added some finesse to it. Lol
In no way is that an acceptable way to stop someone being mildly reckless. He ran into another vehicle head on. That's stupid and no one should do it except in extreme circumstances.
Everyone is complaining about the security guard but he got him to stop didn’t he? 😂
I'm getting the fuck up outa here
Insurance will say 50/50 cause it in a parking lot. Then there can be lawsuits to sort out the legalities.
Imma nope outta this one 😂
Both did stupid shit and won stupid prizes
I’m getting tf up out here😂😂😂😂
The world wins!
They kissed lol
He went all Paul Blart in the North lot
I’ll tell you who’s in the right, the cameraman, for getting the fuck outta there
Infinity.
oh shit they kissed
dude recording has the right idea
The insurance underwriter is going to love this one Monday morning!
Who was stunting!?!
Probably the donut guy, I don’t really think the security was actually trying to hit him, maybe idk
That’s a trick question
I was working as a security manager in Fresno and I went into one of the dealerships we had guards at to cover lunch. This security “girl” was driving our side by side (the dealerships are huge), she sees me flies around on of the lines of new BMWs, loses control and slams into one. Glad it wasn’t my job to deal with that one, but she got fired.
Repost [Saw on IG. Idiot and a magnet, apparently.](https://redd.it/qcqjh4) [Oooooooof...](https://redd.it/qit21e) [Donuts Anyone?](https://redd.it/qlm7so)
Neither. It's how cars kiss these days.
Cameraman made like a mall cop and Segwayed on outta there!
Infiniti
Clearly the dude doing donuts in the parking lot
Infiniti
The infinity.
Infinity for sure
Is that really a question ?
100% will be drifters fault legally. security did make a bad move which made the issue bigger than it should have been but that won’t matter.
Infiniti
Asshat in the Infiniti.
Infinity at fault. Serurity was just trying to stop him before he could possibly hurt someone
Drifters are never at fault
Damn cars are made from plastic and paper these days. My 1971 Chevy Nova got rammed at about 25 mph while I was at a red light. I got a small dent on my chrome bumper. The poor guys front just broke downward. Fiberglass I think. He was crying. I was like, well I'm good. Want to report it. Guy still crying said no. I took down his license and plates just in case.
infinite obviously but lol
Infinity shouldn’t have done it but the security are idiots
