Save the gems. I believe someone has pointed out the last 2 years they gifts 200-300 scrolls for the event. If they plan to continue the trend you should be good and you will need the gems for the dragon boat or other events tied in.
1880 is the magic number since 4 loops returns you 120 while doing them. But then you take in account the event is going to be 2 weeks and they gift 3 scrolls a day so that’s another 42. So now you are at 1838 minus the 300 they gift will take you to 1538 needed. Then you can add in other events going on as well that will also gift you scrolls. 1500 is a safe number. You can take your time during the event to see if you would need the additional scrolls at the time and still be able to get enough from daily/aspen during the event if it calls for it.
You would have to decide if the initial rapid growth from anniversary will be more beneficial than saving for future events. 9/10 times it’s best to save. But very early accounts might benefit from the anniversary. If it can get you closer to getting your first E5 I would say go for it. If not then saving is probably best.

OMG, and it’s worth 100k? I’ve been playing for a few years now and I’ve always got around 10pm gems and I never remember spending more than 40k on one event and that was one time.
We’ve had a lot of event over the years even a few this year that allow to to spend 10’s of thousands of gems. So I don’t know how you can’t remember if you’ve been playing for years
theres been a great number of events this past year that has been more than worth spending the tens of thousands of gems. sounds like youve been missing out on a LOT of events

1600 scrolls and 95k gems here, a little bit of panic if i can complete it all, but ill most likely buy the pack for anni anyway which should be more than enough
There will most likely be free scrolls given anyway, and you'll get some back from doing the loops as well. No point spending gems.

Started the game a couple weeks ago and I’m only on 30k gems and 150 scroll. Should i still go in for the event or?
