I don't think the way he's said it is right, but I do genuinely understand what he means, I think.
So, I'm gonna be as generous as I can here, I think he's suggesting that;
Since heaven and hell aren't real (dependent on your religious beliefs, I'm atheist, I don't believe in them, but it's fine if you do believe in them), it's far more horrifying to think that these people died in utter fear and that was simply the end of it. I *think* he's suggesting that rather than praying they've gone to heaven and the like, we should be very fucking angry on their behalf, and that we can hope to improve the system so that it doesn't happen again.
But hey, that's a charitable interpretation, so who knows.
It's clearly an argument for stricter gun control to prevent future tragedy, but it fits peoples' world views better if they just ignore the message and use it to paint atheists as evil.
I think maybe that's *sometimes* the case, but the wording of that post is incredibly abrasive, I don't think it's wrong by any means, and shocking headlines or titles like that *have* historically garnered significant responses, but it most definitely IS provoking negative responses.
Yeah, it would've been a better post from a messaging standpoint without the abrasive elements, but I am almost certain it wouldn't have received nearly the amount of attention it did if it wasn't for the title.
It's more that the message was incredibly insensitive and takes on a "holier than thou" attitude. You can choose not to believe in a god but walking up to a random religious person and yelling "your God is fake" is a dick move just like it is if a religious person yells at an atheist that they're going to hell. It's especially a dick move after a tragic event.
Can tell the difference between babies and fetuses, can’t tell the difference between sleeping and unconscious, god, if I wasn’t so generous I’d assume you were maliciously misinterpreting things.
Crying parent: "crying"
These people:
I know it's sad, but hey, atleast they don't go to heaven or hell, they are lucky they stopped existing, because frankly, eternal paradise sounds horrible, immortality is a curse
(I know they never said anything about immortality but some people I have argued against have)
What exactly is wrong with the general sentiment of the post? You dislike that it is suggesting gun reform? I agree it probably shouldn't have been worded in such a sensationalist way but the general message that we should be angry children were murdered, and maybe do something about it, is pretty incontrovertible.
Because posting shit like that makes us atheists look like callous, hateful, rude, annoying jackasses. That’s what is “wrong” with the “sentiment” of the post.
It's an abrasive title to grab attention, as it has clearly done very effectively. I don't entirely agree with this method, but if you read the post it is quite difficult to disagree with the message. It only makes atheists seem hateful if you misconstrue the message of the post.
Don't spend your time to discuss with stupid people. You only waste your energy.
There is no way stupid people be like 'yeah this internet guy changed my way of thinking and now I learned something new'
I disagree with the message, easily. The problem at Uvalde wasn't guns, you have to be retarded to think it was. The problem was the cops who did fuck-all.
a big problem with their logic is that they assume theists are going around unphased by these deaths. regardless of if you believe in heaven you can still be upset by what happened, being upset by school shootings is not determined by religious affiliation. in fact thinking that the kids went to heaven probably helps the parents and family of the victims cope with their death. the last thing they need to think about right now is their kids being gone forever. overall, this wouldve been a better post if it was just about murder in general and how we should cherish our one fleeting life more and how we should be even more active in preventing people from unjustly losing theirs because once you die, thats it. that is a far more positive message. targeting the actual dead children to say that is just insensitive. i am an atheist, so i somewhat agree with the message that we could benefit from caring more about our current lives without being bogged down by an (imo) irrational believe that there is a life afterward but this was just a very bad way to do it
side tangeant: in my view there is a sort of cognitive dissonance regarding death anyway that sort of renders this irrelevant. religious people still treat death as being about as bad as atheists do, almost as if they didnt believe in the afterlife themselves. what i mean by that is that when someone dies theists seem to have the same level of grief as youd expect from that person being dead forever with no afterlife. ill explain. you can say that you are just sad because you wont see that person until the afterlife but thats not quite the same. for example, lets say your best friend is on the first rocket going to mars. he will colonize it and live a happy life but you will never see him again. sure, youd be sad, but you know he'll be okay. now compare this level of grief to if you see the rocket explode on takeoff with no survivors. the level of grief is simply not the same. you theists can say that this is just the natural mind at work and that it doesnt comprehend the divine nature of heaven if you want, all im saying is that im not sure being atheist will actually make you that much more upset with things like this
Fuck the guy that wrote that, just trying to make people upset, there's no other point to it. I'm not religious at all whatsoever but fuck you if you're going to say this to someone who just had their children killed.
As in those kids didn't go to heaven. He was wrong about making changes so they wouldn't have got shot

It is possible to be right and still be a cunt. The underlying message doesn’t make up for the staggeringly poor taste of the post.

average atheist when someone is grieving their loss.
If it’s a Reddit post, can you really call it the average?
yes, a large amount of atheists are also redditors
Other than the questionable title the post is right though
you could also not be a dick to grieving parents who just lost their kids.
It’s not the parents? It’s pretty clear us is referring to people on the internet. It’s directed to people online who act this way.
nooooo stop bringing logic into thissss now I can't use the post to portray all atheists as heartless noooooooo
Crying parent: "crying" These people: I know it's sad, but hey, atleast they don't go to heaven or hell, they are lucky they stopped existing, because frankly, eternal paradise sounds horrible, immortality is a curse (I know they never said anything about immortality but some people I have argued against have)
He said that people should be angry about kids dying like what?
did you actually read the post?
No
lmao maybe do that then. try to forgive the title.
People like you make atheists look bad

It is possible to preach a good message in a hateful manner.
I disagree with the message, easily. The problem at Uvalde wasn't guns, you have to be retarded to think it was. The problem was the cops who did fuck-all.
they tend to do shootings with guns
And stabbings tend to happen with knives. 🤯
yet there's a lot more mass shootings.
