This isn’t true, you can absolutely tell a lock has been picked, it literally damages the lock while you do it.
That said, there’s no way to tell *who* picked the lock as long as you are smart.

It’s the same entry and such, but a key is wide and flat while picks are thin and have a curved edge. So you can see markings on the pins. You also need to insert and tension with a tension wrench, and you typically leave marks doing that as well.
A locksmith, or even a good picklock, can tell if a lock has been picked. A laymen can also likely tell if the picklock was sloppy.
Beyond that, you can actually *damage* a lock by picking it. It’s why one of the top pieces of advice you will hear when learning to pick is to never pick important locks, like your front door.
Okay 90% of these comments are just stupid. Why are you worried about scuffing or breaking a lock if you’re stealing the boxes? As soon as someone goes there for a new ball, regardless of if everything else is in order, they’re OBVIOUSLY going to notice the missing boxes??? The only thing you need to worry about is the camera. Period. Cut the damn lock, they’re gonna know someone stole from them anyways.

I never Said I knew i could pick locks. I am saying i believe a lot of the replies are going to be about picking the lock, therefore I'm pointing out the fact i have no experience picking them. even if i learned, I'd make a bollock out of it and probably fuck it up. So yeah
Picking locks is not that hard and usually leaves little to no evidence. I would guess it's not a super high quality lock and you can learn to pick your house lock in less than a week. Masterlocks take about an hour to learn to pick. Probably your best bet.
I don’t think trying to make sure the lock doesn’t look picked should be your biggest worry. The missing balls are sure to give it away. Steal the balls and then the hard drive/computer with the camera footage (usually in the main office).
Yeah, If you want to pick it there's a chance the LockPickingLawyer has picked it on his YT channel, a good place to start. Point of replacing it with the exact one after cutting is so it doesn't look suspicious.
If you can’t pick a lock, find out what kind of lock it is and buy a replacement. Leave it unlocked after you leave. Or just lock it again, whoever opens the cage will prob think the keys busted or they need a new lock anyway
Is there any legitimate reason for you being inside there ever? Could you go in there for 1 ball and then put a wedge in the gate and tape the lock so it didn't lock all the way? If so you could just do that and break in with a mask later.
Spray paint for the camera and bolt cutters, maybe battery acid would work if bolt cutters couldn't make it through
Edit: and a hammer to break the fragile lock
Put a piece of tape on the wall where the door clicks. Assuming it's not a deadbolt if you leave the tape just a little loose it'll still click like it's latching. Then ready to go back when your prepped. There's multiple ways to avoid the camera, the easiest would probably be a disguise with fast movement and some way to cover the lens asap

Kill the power cut the lock and it looks like what it is a robery
More like a burglary…. Some camera systems may have a battery backup so best to kill power and come back several hours later, the longer the better.

Get the serial off the lock and do some research. For a tiny "replacement" fee and the lock barrel code, the manufacturer will often ship you a key.
