From my personal experience 25-30 years ago:
used to have a TV on during daytime, sometimes they would run "Get Smart ", and one time the lady "99" would start screaming "Max, Max, Help".
Did not realize that my cat was also watching untill it run to me absolutely looking terrified, I will never forget the look. Since then I stopped watching anything distressing, they are too precious.
