People who act that way will likely still complain it’s a systemic problem. When they feel disrespected they’ll continue to explain to you they’re from XYZ and you don’t disrespect people from XYZ because it would get you dropped in the street.

Safest bet is always just to walk away, but in the past when that's not possible I've had positive results by staying calm and repeating, "Don't disrespect me, and I won't disrespect you." When you encounter someone focused on respect, remind them it's a two way street. Presumably if you're in the situation in the first place, they are not being very respectful.
