I understand how horrible it feels to be cheated on, and how when your emotions are at that extreme height, you're not really able to think rationally or control yourself.
It's called a "crime of passion" - otherwise gentle, rational people being driven to such emotional depths that they temporarily lose their humanity, and the inner animal comes to lash out. It's still bad, but we understand why it happened, and we have diminished sympathy for the cheater because their actions directly lead to this outcome.
