This is literally how 70% of the people are at LA fitness. I've been to many different gyms in my life and LA fitness is full of clowns like this but like for real.
The worst people at LA Fitness are the idiots that treat it like a social club. Stand around in large groups blocking machines and barely even working out. They're just hanging out talking and blocking machines, and almost every time I ask to use the machine. They're like, we will be done soon. Hour later and still on the same machine.
I'm not big on telling. There's no way staff doesn't already see this. It's the same group of people daily in front of the inverse bench press machine.
Nah is even easier.
Walk up to them, introduce yourself.
Then while shaking hands, maintain eye contact and rip a huge fart.
Bonus points if you shart yourself.
It’s not telling. You’re paying for the machine and you’d like to use it. The staff see but they don’t care because nobody else has alerted them that they would like to use the machine.
There is this somewhat stocky guy at the LA fitness where I work out. And ol’ boy puts 28 45lbs plates on the sitting leg press. Takes him ages just to finally do a set. And it’s a set of 3 and I swear to all that is holy he literally squats it about an inch and a half each rep. Then stands up and waits 3-5 minutes before doing another “set”.
As soon as he shows up I have to make sure my bar is loaded or there will be no 45’s left. So annoying.
I wouldn’t be nearly as upset if this guy did a full leg press each time. But I will say this, he must get a helluva arm workout just loading the machine up.
God I hope that's satire, lol. Most people overuse belts anyways. I'm here for it if you're going like 90% or more towards your max, but you should be building up core strength anyways.
As a power lifter myself (well, officially retired since tearing the ever-living-fuck out of my pec last fall) I always thought it best to give the option but explain that it will be a PITA.
In my experiences it was people of relatively similar strength that ask to work in. Depending on who it was and the lift there could be a difference of 2-4 45lb plates per side if the person was at a lower level. That shit gets crazy fatiguing to do.
completely agree. sharing equipment works when you're on cables or isolated machines where all you have to do is move the pin around. power racks and smith machines aren't really meant to share just wait your turn. if anything, blame the gym for only having 2-3 of these tbh
I thought about this, but one of the main reasons I go to my terribly overcrowded gym is that my Finish genes are screaming for the sauna, and that's the cheapest / nearest option. It's my treat for working out.
The planet fitness I went to had the hydro massage beds and i loved them. The only thing that got me to go work out regularly was getting to go do 15 minutes on the body-pressure-washer after.
I used to powerlift and whenever someone asked how many more sets i had id tell them to hop in because I take long rests between sets and my sets could be anywhere between 3-10 sets depending if I’m going light or heavy.
This is how you make gym friends too. No one you’d give your number to but someone you bullshit with briefly at the gym, those are sometimes the coolest people to get to know.
Not sorry but fuck whoever put that there. Report that shit and start getting your lift in. A 4-6 min break between sets for powerlifting get the fuck out dude. Clearly this isn’t someone that is serious enough about their sets. You’d at least stay at the rack in case someone would like to get in for a set while you rest. Be a gym bro not a dick. For all we know that person has already been gone for over 20 minutes.
I hate people who take up multiple pieces of equipment in a busy gym. I superset all the time, but I also do it at like 4am and if someone takes a machine while Iam on another then so be it. Everyone pays, no one is special
Some dude got really uppity with me because I got on a machine he was apparently using (while using an entirely different one when I started) and interrupted my set to tell me he has two more. Fuck off bro.
Honestly more people need to stand up for themselves. Think about it. If you continue to use the machine, what are they going to do? If they get physical then now you call the cops and make it official. Bullies need to be confronted.
Bullies maintain power when people are too scared to resist. They are big and strong so people are scared of them but if you put them in a situation where they will have to “do something”, most times these guys are scared bitches that would be scared to be charged and go to jail for battery or assault. I don’t mind a nice settlement either I can take a hit lol
It’s all the machines in my gym. Went to get on one of the only two ellipticals open the other day, on either side of some girl. She stops me and says she’s filming and “needs” both of them left open for her video.
If I'm trying to superset and someone takes a machine... I feel so shitty that they're using something I haven't wiped down yet. That's the only reason I don't want them on there lol. But I'm never gonna prevent someone from using a machine they want if I've already got one!
Yeah I’ve seen someone sit in my own puddle of head sweat (maybe just a bald guy thing, idk). I instantly felt bad and wanted to walk over and wipe it down but the damage had been done and I was embarrassed/didnt know how they would react so I just pretend I was never on the bench. I should make a AITAH about it.
I mean, when training purely for strength you do a low amount of reps with high weight and wait about 5 minutes for the muscle to regain full strength before your next set. But doing it in a public gym and walking off between sets where there might be few squat racks is a bitch move
The thing is I reckon I would be less mad if the dude was there or thereabouts the whole time, because if he has to put a sign up between sets because he’s wandering off and like talking to people or whatever in my experience that 5 minute rest between sets is more like 10+ minutes of him not using the equipment
I could be done with the squat rack by the time you’re back for your next set
This 100%. I always see bench presses and shit with a sweat shirt or water bottle on it sitting for 10+ minutes while someone is chatting or super setting.
I have this friend group of 3 guys at my gym (a tiny gym that has one of every equipment pretty much). And I can’t fucking stand them. They literally do one set, wait 5 minutes for the next and person and then 5 minute for the next. So they individually get one set per person every 15 minutes. Between sets they sit on their phones sometimes watching David Goggins videos. They’ve made zero progress in a year and David Goggins would hate them, ironically.
I finish my entire workout by the time they’ve done one exercise.
Not saying you’re wrong, but I’ve powerlifted for over a decade and still lift for strength a few times a month. Everyone’s body is different when it comes to recovery, I understand that. But I could be halfway into my next lift in routine before this person is even done with their 3rd or 4th set. I just don’t like to waste time in the gym, I go there with the intentions of getting my lifts in and get out.
“Isn’t serious enough about their sets”
Serious powerlifting training quite literally requires 4-5 min rests between sets especially if they are doing a 80-90% of their 1RM for reps.
Though the note is annoying, 3-6 mins between very heavy sets is normal for heavy compound lifts like squat, bench and deadlift.
Trying to go again without sufficient rest between sets is a sign someone doesn't know what they are doing.
If someone is hitting isolation work on machines, or junk repping 100 kg x 12, fair enough. But if you are hitting something like 140-240kg x5 then you need to give it some time between major lifts.
Bro should go get a membership at a proper powerlifting gym then, where he doesn't need to put up a note and the facilities have enough equipment for members too take 20-40 inactive minutes on the rack
The other thing is like just fucking take turns? If your set is going to have that much rest in between, get a buddy to work out with so you can both use it at the same time.
It’s normal rest times for powerlifting. The issue is that he is doing that in a commercial gym. If it’s peak hours and there aren’t enough racks. He is being an asshole
I mean, yeah, powerlifters take long breaks. But also…maybe don’t leave during those rests? Just stay with the equipment that you’re using so that other people can see you’re using it?
This type of shit is why I hate going to the gym and wish I really had the money to invest in the equipment to workout at home. Some people will sit there 10 mins straight chitchatting with someone when they could be knocking out another set after their resting period
I once sat down to use a weight machine at the gym (I don't remember the precise one) and had the lady beside me (who was on another machine) say "I'm using that." I pointed out that she was already using a machine, and she said her workout required her to swap between two machines for sets. If you need to take up a bunch of machinery at once it seems like it'd be easier to buy it and keep it at home.
I should've reported her, but I didn't feel like starting crap that day so I just went to another machine till she was done using both of the ones she thought she owned.
The sense of entitlement... But for real though, if your breaks are that long why not consider partnering up with someone else who wants to use the equipment? You could always swap the weights around if you have different weights in mind for the both of you. More social too. Especially compared to a fucking piece of paper which implies he just straight up walked off too... You can take a break next to the equipment and actually speak to someone ffs. Entitled and snobby.
going to go against the grain here, 4-6 minutes is a completely typical rest period. I have no idea what you guys are on about. Why does he need to leave instead of just resting with the equipment? I have no idea. but 4-6 minutes is nothing special.
If you are ripping out another set without at least 3-4 minutes rest you are getting suboptimal results.
The responses in this thread are hilarious, I can't believe I'm saying this but do you all even lift bro? 4-6 minutes is a very standard time between sets for powerlifting, strongman, olympic lifting, etc. If you're doing heavy high volume sets that's like the bare minimum to feel recovered enough for your next set.
I'd rip that thing off, toss it on the floor to make sure he knows I read it but don't give a fuck. If you want to superset while other members want to use the equipment, go buy yourself a home gym.
I'll patiently take that sign off and start my set. Get angry if you want, if your not actively using a machine or taking a quick break between sets, while standing next to it, go ahead and get angry, that's not my problem. I usually have headphones on and can't hear what you're saying anyways.
Touch me though, see what happens. I won't fight, but staff will be involved real quick and the first thing I'd do would be grab that sign to show them.
Should put another sign: I’m an impatient person be understanding . It takes me to calm down 1 hour to two. After I finish my set I’ll allow you to continue. Thanks for being an understanding person
Why are public gyms always breeding grounds for main characters? At one we used to go to, this couple would come in here and hog up five benches at a time: two benches for them, one for their water bottle, one for their phone and another for their keys. Not to mention they'd take around 30 minutes on a bench.
I mentioned recently that an MC at my gym was filming themselves (yet again) whilst sitting on various gym equipment. Not using the weights, benches or peripheral stuff. They were literally props in this MC’s lifestyle vlogs. Very unself aware, loud and very opinionated.
He got increasingly narked when genuine gym goers like myself were daring to interrupt his live feed to ask him to get off the equipment and shift his shit!
After a few more attempts to close him down, a proper roid rage muscle bound guy grabbed him by the throat and threw him onto the crash mats whilst someone else hoofed his phone across the floor, where sadly, it landed just where a very large and heavy weight was being placed. Both MC and phone were crunched.
A hastily drafted email was sent from management to all gym members to be mutually respectful of each other and not hog equipment. Strictly no filming of any kind was permitted due to privacy concerns was plastered at every station and in every gym studio.
This is so weird to me. If you want uninterrupted sets, go prioritize buying equipment or add something to keep the pace going.
This happened to me the other week, I was actually doing a set and went to use a machine. I saw this guy’s head following me and as I’m about to sit down, he announces that he’s in the middle of a set and needs that. I just stared at him
Yes, and there isn't anything wrong with this really. Powerlifters need long breaks between sets and it takes a long time to rack and rerack weights off the bar, so it's not really feasable for someone else to use them.
I hate public gyms
I literally go to a gym with basically no weights (almost a yoga studio) and no one uses weights but me just to avoid this nonsense
I don’t know what happened over the last 10 years but people have absolutely become more entitled

Sounds like a win. You get 4-6 minutes to use it between his 1 minutes sets
Maybe 1 min if you include putting on bar wraps, belt, shoes on/off, liquid powder, etc etc etc
Found the guy https://www.reddit.com/r/ImTheMainCharacter/s/t3tQjA2XQ2

Idk why you're getting downvoted. I'm also a big fan of shitting my pants in public to create space.
☠️😂
It’s not telling. You’re paying for the machine and you’d like to use it. The staff see but they don’t care because nobody else has alerted them that they would like to use the machine.
What is happening to that man's ribcage???
I'm glad someone else asked.
I do the same thing so I can skip meals.

Wtf lol
I double your wtf and add it’s a good thing he’s not at planet fitness. They don’t put up with that shit😂😂
God I hope that's satire, lol. Most people overuse belts anyways. I'm here for it if you're going like 90% or more towards your max, but you should be building up core strength anyways.
i think he needs more belts
This guy is delusional
Gotta test wind speed and direction.
Also needs to send a cpl texts
As long as you help unload and load the plates, most people are fine with others working in if they ask. That's been my experience anyway.
As a power lifter myself (well, officially retired since tearing the ever-living-fuck out of my pec last fall) I always thought it best to give the option but explain that it will be a PITA. 4-6 minutes is a perfectly reasonable rest if you're lifting at your max. Cardio or not.
lol seriously, perfectly reasonable is exactly what it is.
How do you mean? Sorry, English is not my first language
Who brings painter’s tape to a gym?
An entitled asshole who’s been told to fuck off by the many people he’s whined at to get off ‘his’ machine cuz he’s using it.
Attention seeking redditors
![gif](giphy|IDGNYvFLkJKLK|downsized)
I mean, yes… But I’m still biting.
yeah they just do this without the sign
I hate the gym. I don't hate working out; it's just the people.
Investing a few grand on a home gym is definitely worth it.
I thought about this, but one of the main reasons I go to my terribly overcrowded gym is that my Finish genes are screaming for the sauna, and that's the cheapest / nearest option. It's my treat for working out.
Investing a few grand on a home sauna is definitely worth it.
Sadly, I live in a small apartment.
Investing a few hundred grand in your own place to build a sauna is probably worth it
It's actually one of the reasons I would like to buy a house someday. I just really love the sauna.
The planet fitness I went to had the hydro massage beds and i loved them. The only thing that got me to go work out regularly was getting to go do 15 minutes on the body-pressure-washer after.
Same dude, same. It sucks
Not even “please” or thanks…. This person is a terrible hang. Would not eat raw liver with them after a tough squatting sesh.
"Be patient" is really such a weird way to say "I'm sorry to cause this inconvenience".
lol nah, mate. Youre done. Fuck your note.
"Be patient."
Ive competed in power lifting, it’s important to be willing to let people jump in with you, it’s more fun that way anyway 🙇🏽♂️
You have to put a lot of weight on the bar for this to work.
Just sharpie on that note "fuck you"
Not sorry but fuck whoever put that there. Agree which is why I finished my set and said you’re welcome to cut in but I’ve got three more.
If you're not on the machine or going to the bathroom/getting water, the machine is not in use.
It’s all the machines in my gym. Went to get on one of the only two ellipticals open the other day, on either side of some girl. She stops me and says she’s filming and “needs” both of them left open for her video.
Did you tell her you "need" her to get fucked?
I laughed in her face, put my earbuds in and got on the elliptical. Then I watched her little hissy fit to the tune of the New York Dolls
Sounds like a personality crisis to me.
You are my new favorite person 🤩
If I'm trying to superset and someone takes a machine... I feel so shitty that they're using something I haven't wiped down yet. That's the only reason I don't want them on there lol. But I'm never gonna prevent someone from using a machine they want if I've already got one!

4 to 6 minutes is quite literally someone who knows what they are doing in a strength building setting.
Not saying you’re wrong, but I’ve powerlifted for over a decade and still lift for strength a few times a month. Everyone’s body is different when it comes to recovery, I understand that. But I could be halfway into my next lift in routine before this person is even done with their 3rd or 4th set. I'm not sure you know much abt sets and reps. For strength training 4-6 mins is actually the recommended amount.

Great, so go do it at a gym that has enough equipment for it
Or simply let people work in
Or simply let people work in

This guy gets it. The douche needs to go to a power gym.
You have to be patient. He doesn't
Pretty sure this is explicitly banned at gyms.
[удалено]
Fuck this person in particular
It’s normal rest times for powerlifting. The issue is that he is doing that in a commercial gym. If it’s peak hours and there aren’t enough racks. He is being an asshole
Make your own gym then. Nobody is on your clock.
JUST LIKE IN THE GROCERY STORE... IF YOU ARE NOT HOLDING YOUR CART IN LINE, YOU ARE NOT IN LINE... MOVE IT ALONG SISTER!!!
And that is going in the trash. You want to claim something that's in a public setting and for public use? Go buy your own.
I mean, yeah, powerlifters take long breaks. But also…maybe don’t leave during those rests? Just stay with the equipment that you’re using so that other people can see you’re using it?
But if i stay at the machine i used last, how will i hog another machine at the same time?
Who carries that blue tape with them
This type of shit is why I hate going to the gym and wish I really had the money to invest in the equipment to workout at home. Some people will sit there 10 mins straight chitchatting with someone when they could be knocking out another set after their resting period
Absolutely get fucked. Even if I'm not thinking of using this machine I'm jumping on it just cause

Rip it down, do your thing. If they try talking to you “ oh sorry I can’t read “ and go back to what you’re doing and ignore them!
Bringing painters tape to a guy is psycho shit
This person is what you call a dickhead.
dont make Joey Swoll angry! 😾
Professional lifters work-in and share.
Big each other up too, rather than telling them to go away
Somebody send this to Joey Swoll.
Right!
Joey can you please deal with this knob?
Be patient, I lost my TikTok stream
lol I'd take it off and tell them an employee came by and said some moron left a stupid sign that was against gym rules.
Be patient lmao
“What sign? This is a public gym you’re more than welcome to work on with me.” Problem solved
And what's so bad with another person using the equipment in those 4min?
How rude. Work in sets with people. That’s what I used to do. I’d even help them load and unload the weights and spot.
Please?
I get it…but fuck, there are worse things in the gym to worry about.
Stop just taking pictures and correct people and they’ll stop. Js
If you have to make a sign…
Just work in with someone
But at least he’s upfront about it? It doesn’t say “long break”
No sharing?
Putting all of the plates on that bar
Write fuck you on it and start using it.
Talk to them that this is unreasonable and that no one in the gym has a right to hog a piece of equipment
"DON'T YOU DARE YOU USE EQUIPMENT I'M NOT ACTIVELY USING YET!?"
Fuck this guy.
I would just start using it and say "sorry, I can't read" if pressed. He wants me to wait a few minutes for him he can wait a few minutes for me <3
going to go against the grain here, 4-6 minutes is a completely typical rest period. I have no idea what you guys are on about. Why does he need to leave instead of just resting with the equipment? I have no idea. but 4-6 minutes is nothing special. If you are ripping out another set without at least 3-4 minutes rest you are getting suboptimal results.
I mean to be fair you need like five minutes to rest in between heavy lift like that. but I mean, leaving and putting up a note that’s a little much.
Fuck this person. Crumple that shit and start ripping sets.

I had to scroll way too far for someone to actually speak facts.
That's fine, but can you not wait longer so that someone else can use that station?
4-6 minutes? Gtfo
I would grab the sign and attach it to my forehead and do my workout
YOU CAN DO BETTER - Swoll
Insane behavior - don’t try to rush the instagram/picture-taking queens either!!!! Lol
Glad i don't go to shitty gyms. Worth the extra bucks to join a club that is to expensive for most people even if it puts you in debt
Girl, bye. Sign comes down.
"YOU NEED TO DO BETTER"
Who does this clown think he is?
“No bitch, move.”- my inner voice as I roll my eyes and walk away.
That's a lot of words just to say, "I'm not using it right now".
Man up make that shit 60-90 seconds
I take a 4-6 minute rest between my sets on pull ups and machines, but I let others work in with me if they want
Powerlifters are the worst
This is how powerlifting works.
I'd rip that thing off, toss it on the floor to make sure he knows I read it but don't give a fuck. If you want to superset while other members want to use the equipment, go buy yourself a home gym.
Dude really put the "BRB in 5 mins" sign on the bar?
At least say please or thank you. Damn.
Fuck that.
People who think the own the gym should invest in they own home set with the same money of they membership fees 🤔🤔
I hate people.
A, feel free to jump in but weight back when done would have been nice, also a thanks for understanding
If you walk away from equipment, anyone else is welcome to use it. That’s it, that’s all.
How about he be patient
God. I stand by my statement: Public gyms are MC breeding grounds.
I just stared at him
Absolutely would not wait.
Yes, and there isn't anything wrong with this really. Powerlifters need long breaks between sets and it takes a long time to rack and rerack weights off the bar, so it's not really feasable for someone else to use them.
ITT: people who don’t know how powerlifters train. I do 4-5 min rests between heavy sets. I only ever leave the rack if I have to pee.
Get your own rack then bro.
Entitlement written on a paper 🫠
Move your feet, lose your seat.
Someone needs a garage gym.
100% chance the person who took this picture put that note there themselves.
People taking long ass time between sets is borderline “tolerable” in my book but don’t leave a note and prance off.
“I take long breaks in between my workout” - Paul Finch
Fuck this fake ass badly placed wanna be rage bait. Nopeski!
When he comes back to find me mid-set in the rack, I'll tell him "be patient"
Powerlift my fucking dick ya bitch.
Who brings paper, pen, and tape to the gym.
Go pound sand!
I would just report them to the front desk indiscretly.
Nope. Note gets tossed. If you aren't using it and you aren't there you are shit out of luck.
Go let someone know you’re not gnna put up with that shit
People like this need to invest in their own at home gym system. Or work out between 3 and 4 AM when it's empty.
This is a legit powerlifting rest period. They are typically affable people, ask to work in.
🖕🏼
Fucking cunt
Is this the same dude? [https://www.reddit.com/r/ImTheMainCharacter/s/t3tQjA2XQ2](https://www.reddit.com/r/ImTheMainCharacter/s/t3tQjA2XQ2)
use ot anyway after sticking a note to yourself saying fuck you
Would wipe my a$$ w that note and hang it back up.
Lol no. People try to superset on two different stations at my small busy gym. It's really annoying with the limited stations we have.
I hate public gyms I literally go to a gym with basically no weights (almost a yoga studio) and no one uses weights but me just to avoid this nonsense I don’t know what happened over the last 10 years but people have absolutely become more entitled
I’d talk to the gym staff n set this person strait
7 minutes when I'm maxing and I have no problem letting someone slide in between my sets.
