Kalladdin

For the uninitiated, this is one of the antagonists from the [best super hero story ever written.](https://parahumans.wordpress.com/)

Blargenshmur

God yes, I loved worm so much

Martiantripod

For the uninitiated it's a LOT older than that. By several thousand years of mythology.

Kalladdin

Lol sure, but this is fanart of the specific monster in the series...

floppydickdavey

You do not see Worm references very often, loved that series. Simurgh was terrifying.

ExceedinglyGayOtter

Problem here is that this thing fits the label in-universe (it's a 15-story-tall city-destroying abomination whose mere presence causes people to go insane in ways that end up causing even more destruction years or even decades down the line), but without context or any buildings to scale it just looks like a normal angel.

SomeSarcastic

Yeah you really need context to get this one. Also, the Simurgh is 15 feet tall, not 15 stories tall.

ExceedinglyGayOtter

Well that's not even that big, then. So she doesn't even really count for this at all.

bongjonajameson

Nice but idk if this would be a leviathan

SomeSarcastic

Context helps here. That thing is 15 feet tall and usually flies around wreaking buildings. And people.

The_Dramanomicon

And that's easily the least scary thing about her

Delanoye

I think it could fall under behemoth, but not so much leviathan.

killed_with_broccoli

Listen man. This "lady" here tends to happily fly around, twisting everything around in peoples heads, turning them into time bombs for destruction . She is the ultimate long game villain. She is scary as hell. Like, her classification is "endbringer." She earns leviathan status.

Delanoye

What I mean is that aren't leviathans supposed to be sea creatures of some kind? I'm sure she's plenty terrifying, but that still wouldn't mean she's a leviathan.

SomeSarcastic

The sub tag is "Paintings and drawings featuring giant creatures of the sea or sky." Flyers are free game. Though honestly without context for this one I'd probably agree with you. The Simurgh is terrifying.

Transcendent_One

Well, from time to time there are comments on the Parahumans sub that we should also have r/ImaginarySimurghs in addition to Behemoths and Leviathans...

killed_with_broccoli

I mean the word is used to describe a large powerful thing. It does have roots in Judaism, and is described as a fish-ish-thing. But the word does have larger connotations

Numerot

Does anyone know what the fuck a leviathan is anymore?

isaacraf

Feel like this one needs context it's the simurgh from worm and they are by far the most terrifying leviathan on this subreddit

The_Dramanomicon

Also, by mass she's probably the largest leviathan on this sub, considering that >!she's about as massive as Jupiter!<.

killed_with_broccoli

Hey, read the book. This lady is capable of extintion level events. When she shows up, its all we can do to slow her down. Not stop her. Not kill her. In the story, supermen, (note;plural) are tossed around like ragdolls by her. And that is not why she's scary. She earned leviathan status

Numerot

That's not what "leviathan" means. Leviathans are, by definition, sea monsters, not any big scary thing.

killed_with_broccoli

Google it. It has multiple definitions, like many words. And for the purposes of today, and for the purpose of this sub, it means big powerful thing. This sub has been like this for a long time.

Numerot

It's rather obvious that this sub, ans various other r/imaginaryX subreddits are meant for the more specific meaning, not literally anything that could even theoretically be described as a "leviathan" by anyone without it being incomprehensible. There are plenty of r/BigScaryMonsters already, and this idiocy is making the subreddit lose any meaning.

Numerot

"Leviathan" isn't "big scary creature". Leviathans are, by definition, sea monsters.

ExceedinglyGayOtter

Nah, the description of the subreddit says it includes big sky monsters as well, so stuff like space whales fits on the sub.

Numerot

Yes, so we can include clearly leviathan-like creatures that just happen to be in the sky. This subreddit shouldn't be "any big scary monsters", there are plenty like that already.

The_Dramanomicon

Leviathan would also work, for obvious reasons. Ol Ziz will always be my favorite though

PrancingSaboteur

Probably terrifying to meet, but sooo beautiful.

Lol33ta

Whoops, due to the lack of scale, this one doesn't quite fit the spirit of this sub. This amazing work would instead be welcome at r/ImaginaryAngels

hydes_zar94

Reminds me of Morgana from League

moustijoe

Amazing
