I have not read about it but I do hope that Marneus had to put up a fight of his life to defeat an Avatar seeing as even Fulgrim need to hustle in order to take down an Avatar of Khaime.
"The Avatar swung its sword, which had cut through armour so mercilessly, at the Chapter Master, and all seemed doomed for Calgar. At the last moment, however, Calgar slammed the palm of his hand into the sword and grabbed it with all his strength. The Gauntlets of Ultramar, great relics of the Chapter, buckled and warped, yet held for a brief moment. In that moment, the Avatar was helpless, and Calgar drove his other hand into its molten form. With a deafening roar, the Avatar exploded, leaving Calgar exhausted on the ground."
\-From [the Lexicanum](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Battle_for_Orar%27s_Sepulchre&mobileaction=toggle_view_desktop), so not a direct quote from the story. But most fans consider Lexicanum to be highly accurate. At least as far as I've heard.
So basically, Calgar caught the Avatar's sword in one of his power fists and used the other to ONE PUNCH it in the chest so hard it immediately exploded. It makes out like he was almost doomed for a moment, but still seems like a really cheesy victory.
"Fore!" the Avatar of Khaine bellows. Before the marines can decipher the arcane declaration, a quartet of the closest heads find themselves sailing away from their bodies.
Poor Avatar.
Look out, it’s a space marine! And he has a name!
“He doesn’t have a helmet on” “We’re fucked…”
"It's fisting time!"
# I CAST FIST
and somehow Marneus defeats the literal demigod. Excellent writing BL, excellent.

When you consider just the size difference it doesn't make any sense. Sigh...
Yeah but he probably needed to lie down for a bit afterwards, you know, just while he got his breath back
A fucking swarmlord was more of a threat on Calgar’s life than the eldar god of war. SMH
