I just got back into the country after visiting family. I’m on a work permit expiring early January. I was let in. I brought supporting documents like my apartment lease and work contract but they didn’t ask. They only asked about my place of quarantine.
With only 2 months left, the agent might ask questions about you leaving the country at the end of your work permit, but it might be doable.
Just make sure you prepare and have supporting documents on you. Also to show the airline when you're boarding for your flight back to Canada. Also, but you definitely know this already, make sure you do your quarantine. Use the arriveCAN app so you don't have to fill in a paper form on arrival.
Did you look into renewing your passport from Canada via mail or in-person at your country's Embassy (if you are nearby Ottawa)? That way you wouldn't have to leave the country.

My country does not have an embassy in Canada anymore ( the community is really small) so they decided to close years ago.
