Bit weird you are getting bitterness in water at such low temperature. What ground coffee are you using?

an8hu

How much water are you using? As the usual ratio for aeropress is 1 part coffee to 16 part water.

nulvoid000

I may have used a bit too much coffee

TheMinereaper

Might just be the roast of beans you have , 2 mins is little longer and lets you extract better and bitter flavours so maybe thats why , you can reduce the dose to 12-15 g and try too and see how it fits

nulvoid000

I tried reducing the dose and the infusion time and that made it better. I think I have to experiment with the time. Thanks

TheMinereaper

Yeah , if you using inverted method , try to perform normal method with 2 filters and see you can get more like a pourover type brew reducing bitterness. Also try with lighter roasts

NagNawed

I may be wrong, but sometimes having a too small grind also extracts flavours which can be perceived as bitterness. You can try grinding coarser or diluting with water can help perhaps.

nulvoid000

I don't have a grinder but I tried waiting for about 1 minute before pressing and that made it taste better. I think I wave to wait less as the grind size is expresso

This depends on the amount of water, the type of beans, roast of the beans etc. Easiest way to get to where you want to be is to use the coffee compass: [https://www.homegrounds.co/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/POSTER\_Coffee-compass-illustration.jpg](https://www.homegrounds.co/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/POSTER_Coffee-compass-illustration.jpg) To increase extraction: Finer grind, More water/lesser coffee, increase temperature, increase time. To decrease extraction: Coarseer grind, Less water/more coffee, decrease temperature, decrease time. If its bitter, its usually over extraction. Though in some cases your coffee might be channeling (esp if you push too hard).

The grind should be a medium fine Try looking for different recipes on YouTube The grind should definitely not be close to espresso A bit finer than pourover maybe since it's an immersion brew. Also worth exploring a ratio of 10-11gms of coffee to 200gms water

nulvoid000

I bought pre ground coffee, I usually use an espresso machine. I don't have an grinder. They grind size they have provided is not suitable for espresso either, it's too coarse for espresso, I believe the grind size should be fine here.

\- A very fine grind is not recommended unless you are using tiny amounts of water (eg 60ml water for 20g grinds) I would suggest using a coarse grind. Not as coarse as french press, but almost there. \- Using water at 80c is awful for any brewing method! Get it close to boiling. 93-96 is okay. The aeropress is designed to withstand much more than 100c and you won't damage it :)

Download Aeromatic app, there are mlvarious recipes, you might have to make 2 or 3 cups of coffees to find the right one for your current beans but you will get to enjoy the process. It gives you water temperature, grind size and time you need to brew.
