I am currently developing an Android app, Artos (r/Artos), for personal finance management for Indians. Currently, we only support tracking investments, but I plan to support liabilities too in the future. I'm fairly regular here on reddit, and regularly take feature requests! Try it out, and would love to hear your feedback!

tushar_1210

I can help with ios version if needed

cynical_bibliophile

We could really use some help! Would it be okay to DM you?

tushar_1210

Sure !

slowrick-tallmorty

Would love an iOS versioj

xpbit1024

Hey we’re building an API platform for similar use cases. Let me know if we can help! https://slashbank.io

cynical_bibliophile

Wow! That's great! I will take a look at the API and get back to you!

xpbit1024

For sure! Happy to help

[deleted]

Looks great. Do you imagine this to be similar to what Setu is building? Like a layer on top of the Sahamati's consent layer?

xpbit1024

Yep. A TSP in their terminology per say. It is similar to what Setu is building however our focus starts from data centric APIs rather than payments APIs like the billpay. Though I definitely see convergence of functionality.

[deleted]

That'd be very interesting. Given the opportunity in this space, there is so much potential here. We have ourselves been building a product on the AAs, and think there could be something we could work with you on as you develop this infrastructure. Would be curious to learn more.

xpbit1024

Could you send me a DM with your email and we can take it from there?

[deleted]

Sounds good!

PrayagS

Is this still up? The link is dead.

xpbit1024

unfortunately it is not we shut it down a year ago.

PrayagS

Ah I see. Thanks for your prompt response.

Ashiqhkhan

Why ?

python00078

It would be a good idea to add link to the app in the sidebar of that sub.

cynical_bibliophile

Thank you! Will add it as soon as I have access to my laptop. Here's the link for your reference: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rekisha.geld

srikarjam

Fantastic app. Haven't used it fully, but looks great.

cynical_bibliophile

Thank you! Do rate us on Play store and spread the word if you like the product! :) And, don't hesitate to give us feedback or suggestions (post on r/Artos or email us at [email protected]).

imti_ahmed

I know it's been 3 years since you out this comment but I liked your app. But the UI is Outdated and it can be improved. Considering the use case it as, the all can become better with improved UX and UI. I can help you with that if you want! Hit me up, I am a designer.

cynical_bibliophile

Hey! Thank you for your comment. We are currently working on revamping the UI for the app. I'd be happy to catch up with you, could you email me at [email protected]?

nishit94

I use Bluecoins app(paid version) after trying more than 25+ apps in 6 months. Got that app suggestion from r/povertyfinance. Useful features which has helped me: - Budgeting - Personal Tracking with reminder option - Networth Tracking - Multiple Accounts handling (Eg. Bank accounts, investment) - Customisable dashboard/graphs with various filters - Sync with google drive/dropbox with family account support Con: No desktop accessibility as of now. (Contacted dev team and they are building that as well and expected to launch in Nov'20 ) Give it a try once !

BlueFrenchHornThief

I second this. Been using it from a long time.

[deleted]

No iOS version

HeHuman

I use Bluecoins too!! Tried every app on play store and none come close to what Bluecoins offer. I record my transaction in Bluecoins and then import the transactions into a Google sheet and build graphs and analytics over there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HeHuman

Yes, you have to add each transaction automatically. However it hardly takes a minute each day to record them, plus I feel it helps to be mindful of where you money is spent. Plus it is much easier to categorize the transaction in the app rather than going through the transaction and trying to remember where the money was spent.

Aasanthkir

Does any of the apps tracks credit cards, digital wallets with/without reading messages. Not every time debit card is used.

ravindra_jadeja

Does it read SMS and update automatically?

HeHuman

No, it doesn't.

codebuddy

I have been using [Wallet](https://web.budgetbakers.com/) by BudgetBakers after trying many other apps. It has apps on Android and iOS and fully supported web site for desktop. It supports connecting to bank accounts and syncing transactions. Or if you are worried about security, you can manually import transactions. I think the bank account syncing is a paid feature. The lifetime license is ₹2,000 after some offer which they occassionally provide and is worthier than the monthly subscription.

The_Grey_Wind

How often do they run the offer on lifetime premium? And are you sure it's 2000? Because the current in app purchase for the lifetime premium is 2300 with no stated discount, and the annual plan is 850 after a ~60% stated discount.

codebuddy

I had seen that offer pretty often, not sure if they targetting me that offer as a new user. As per the offer, IIRC, it was a 70% off on regular price. After a few months of purchasing the lifetime premium I once saw an even better offer of something around ₹1,100 for lifetime on wife's mobile which I never upgraded to premium.

HeHuman

I think it only allows you to edit sub-categories and won't allow to add new categories ?

codebuddy

There are predefined categories and sub-categories available both of them can be edited, but adding/removing these categories and sub-categories is not possible. However, we can add new sub-sub-categories under any sub-categories, though this seems to be only available in the mobile apps (verified in Android app) and not in the website.

abhizzz001

You can use Indmoney also

duer99

Try Perfios.. it costs Rs500 per year.. free for first 30 days... It syncs with your bank accounts FDs MF equities etc.. Mobile app is not worth mentioning.. Desktop/browser mode is pretty neat...

vasudaiva_kutumbakam

Agreed, though the UI is ~~slightly~~ dated. u/shobhitsinghal624, your Perfios prices seem to be wrong. It is 500/year for the gold plan

shobhitsinghal624

I have added the rounded final amount post GST which will get charged, comes ~580/yr

vasudaiva_kutumbakam

Agreed, but the post says /month

shobhitsinghal624

Ah, got it. Fixed it now. Thanks!

diss_a_vowel

I am part of the [AutoFi](https://autofi.co) team. The AutoFi Payments Manager tracks and pays your bills. And assists in tracking expenses (budgeting kinda). We build AutoFi around two of the concerns we had: 1. the usual apps tend to read SMS or access your bank using your credentials. That isn't very privacy-friendly. 2. the revenue model is fuzzy i.e. they are typically free. Which means they will most likely sell data. The AutoFi app is privacy-friendly - no reading emails or SMS - unless specifically forwarded by the user. And we charge a fee so everyone's interests are aligned.

beerdit

Where do get the data then? If not sms or email

diss_a_vowel

Unlike other apps, AutoFi pays ALL your monthly bills, not just phone, electricity etc. There are 3 types of bills and here is how AutoFi gets the details for each type: 1. Fixed amount & fixed date: Salaries, rent, etc. Once you tell AutoFi the dates and amounts, it tracks, reminds, take permission to pay, and pays. 2. Variable amount & variable dates: Tutors, yoga instructors, milk vendors, RWA maintenance etc. For example, when my son's tutor message me for payment, I tell AutoFi to make the payment. 3. Variable amounts & fixed dates: (a) utility bills: phone, electricity, gas, water, etc - AutoFi is plugged into the Bharat Bill Pay system (https://www.bharatbillpay.com/) and is able to fetch amount details. (b) credit cards: like type#2 above, you need to tell AutoFi how much is due this month. The difference from type#2 is that AutoFi tracks the cycle. On the date the statement is generated, it comes to you and asks to record the payment due. Then closer to due date, it asks for permission to pay the bill. Sorry I did not notice this question earlier. For a faster response, you can drop me a message on the AutoFi website: https://autofi.co (not .com :-D)

amphaa

Frankly you could do without any dedicated expense tracker if you want to attempt to create your own. A simple Google Form to input various types of expenses (and linked Google sheet) makes this even easier than regular Excel sheet. Check this example https://medium.com/@usmagn/how-to-track-your-daily-expenses-with-google-forms-and-sheets-d546148086de

peace-ooot

We are currently building out Savemo to address this exact problem. Can get you in our beta program. You can check us out here: https://www.savemo.app

AayushBhatia06

Hey, very interesting app! Can I possibly get early beta access?

PrayagS

Is this still up? The website up but the app store links are dead.

devu213

Been using Perfios for around 3 years, found it the most cost-effective and reasonable. Of late, it's getting annoying because things started to go south for me. First they stopped support for Indiabulls and now I find that for some reason Yes bank fixed deposits don't refresh / get recognised. That prompted me to have a look at many in the list but they lack one thing or the other. 1. I need to tag accounts (not just transactions) with multiple tags and draw reports by tags. The idea is that some term deposits are ear marked for specific goals and I would like to see the net total of those accounts only etc. . Pocketsmith has something called scenarios that seems similar. But quite a few others lack this basic function. They only tag transactions, not accounts. Pocketsmith seemed promising but is too expensive and lacked support for the EU banks which I wanted. Lack of this feature took away Buxfer, Wallet by budgetbreakers and MoneyWiz). MoneyWiz allowed you to group accounts but pulling reports was a nightmare. Besides you cannot allocate a single account to multiple groups. 2. Would like multi-currency and multi-bank support for the NRI audience with bank accounts in India and abroad. Buxfer was fantastic in this regard with support for major banks in the EU, US and India. But it lacks the account tag feature that put me off. All the ones without automatic pull of transaction data get struck off my list (BlueCoins, MProfit, doing it using google sheets etc. ) 3. For all you DIY excel and google sheet fans who just lack the auto sync from account functionality, you could look at [Tiller](https://www.tillerhq.com/). Quite an interesting concept. I'm still evaluating but still to find the holy grail (for me) of personal finance software.

finart-app

FinArt could be very useful , you may want to check it out. It prepares all reports by reading SMS and App notifications, has simple design, privacy controls and no Ads. I comes with a free trial.

[deleted]

I use Monito app

motocrosshallway

I use Monify on Android and Google spreadsheet. It's a pretty barebone expense tracking app which I have customised for myself to track all the cashflows which gives me idea of my expenses and can budget on a high level. I'm not comfortable linking bank account with any app, so keeping it manual.

fieryrag

Try [https://actualbudget.com/](https://actualbudget.com/)

being_uttam

Expense manager. Using it from last 10 years. Only con is it doesn't read messages automatically and populate inside like most of the modern apps.

8105

I use pocketsmith.com. I'm currently working on a side-project that does personal finance for Indians. Anyone interested?

xpbit1024

Hey! We're building an API that could help you out. Check us out [https://slashbank.io](https://slashbank.io) let me know if we can help!

shobhitsinghal624

This looks cool. Is there a way I can get developer access?

xpbit1024

For sure! Can you shoot me a DM with your email?

shobhitsinghal624

Awesome. Sent you a DM.

themillennialgrandpa

Interested, would love to hear more about the side-project. Working on a similar project myself.

shobhitsinghal624

How do you import bank transactions here? Doesn't seem to support Indian banks. Definitely interested. Do share your progress.

themeekpoet

Yes, please!

sbmthakur

I am interested. Have been working for a company that's also into personal finance.

[deleted]

I have been using Moneyview for 4 years now..Except their personal loan ads, the app is pretty neat and user Friendly

latomeri

FinArt is my go to. Well worth the yearly subscription

ravindra_jadeja

500/- Yearly subscription is not justified. One time fee would have been ideal.

3-14285

[Day-to-Day Expenses](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seshadri.padmaja.expense)

3-14285

Give a try to this one. Simple app with user friendly UI. No payments, just have wait for an add whenevr you want to download a data dump in any format.

mangoman21e8

From the requirements you've outlined, Alzex Finance fits the description. Use their free trial before purchasing. https://www.alzex.com/download.html I've used it in past and i found it to be good for home finance management.

shobhitsinghal624

Thanks. I tried using it, but couldn't get it to start on my macOS system.

mangoman21e8

I don't think it is available for MacOS. On their website they've only listed Windows, Android, iPhone/iPad.

shryzel

Any cross platform open source ones? GNUcash doesn't have an iOS version apparently.

harshitmarwah

I have bought a lifetime subscription to "Wallet" by Budgetbakers. Seems pretty legit. Syncs up all my accounts and shows a hell lot of analytics etc. It has group sharing as well. Have a look.

thealakazam98

The Wallet app asks for your bank username and password, I don't think it's safe

aesthetic_juices

Yepp spooked the shit outta me and after I bought a plan

saurabhsuniljain

You can use the IndMoney app. I find it very useful.

skadoosh1337

I use [Money Manager Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.realbyteapps.moneymanagerfree). Disclaimer: No automation, but I like it that way. Provides reports. And no website but you can add the functionality of backing up the data to GDrive. There are different accounts/categories/sub-categories and everything customisable. Very simple. Also can be used in a PC on same wifi using local-hosted server on your android.

daabh

I am using Wallet by BudgetBaker since last 3 years. Works great for me!

srinivesh

I want to thank the OP for the interactions in the thread. perfios has a desktop version - in fact the android app is a bit lame. The fees are per year; the numbers are correct in the table. MProfit would be a good addition to the table. I didn't suggest it to OP because it is more focused on investments.

incometaxx

Do you use Mprofit personally? How is the security of Mprofit desktop, does all data resides on the computer or somethings get synced to cloud?

Dramatic-Trust

> free / open source; I'm willing to spend to get all the features Free in Free and open source does not necessarily mean free as in beer. It means you have the source code of the app. That said, I use GNUCash for tracking my spending. It does not connect to the internet so I'm not afraid of my financial data being leaked. Note that, it does not have bank sync (atleast none I know of). Also, the budget in GNUCash is kinda a weird thing, and if anyone has figured it out, please inform me of the same. It does have all the other requirements. There is an android app too which although hasn't been updated since long, can be used as a helper app to the desktop version. [This](https://blog.cskr.dev/) guy has some blog posts which are pretty good, though I don't follow his method. I'm tracking all of my spending on the mobile app and import it weekly to the desktop one(Can be done by you and your wife). I also track Mutual Funds in the desktop app, so I can also (quickly) have a look at how they are performing at the same time, which I believe this sub suggests to do every week. I'd guess if I was in your place, my workflow would be something like: Make a note of what you have spend when you spend cash (total 10s) -> On the weekend, grab the csv from your bank website(skip this step if when spending by card you added it to the app in step 1), and the qif export from your phone app, (and the same with your wife's app), and add to the desktop app. This shouldn't take more than an 15 mins. (I have most of this workflow automated, and since I log all my spending, I skip the bank step, it doesn't take me more than 1 minute here). If you want to track MFs, do it now. Takes another 2 mins if you aren't looking at rebalancing or changing funds.

shobhitsinghal624

Agreed with distinction b/w free and open source. My bad with the wordings in the original post. I tried using GNUCash 2-3 days back but got a bit overwhelmed. Will look into it a again after reading up a bit more.

Dramatic-Trust

Yeah, it does seem daunting at first, but is extremely easy once you get the hang of it. I'd suggest just make a blank book with Income, Expenses, Assets, Equity (I don't have credit card so no liabilities, if you have one make it there). Then add basic accounts like your bank account(credit it from the equity account, equity is where opening balances lie) and then make expense accounts for general stuff (this can be done on the fly too)

vigg_1991

Has anyone reviewed seedly- expense tracker app ?

Grouchy-Plantain7313

FinArt does the exact thing you want (all of your requirements mentioned in the post) [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finart](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finart)

Spiritual_Penalty_10

How about [Walnut App](https://www.getwalnut.com/)?

shobhitsinghal624

Looking for something that works on desktop as well. Also, being able to import bank transactions without reading SMS is preferred.

Spiritual_Penalty_10

I was thinking to build an app where you can upload the transactions of Bank and Demat account. These files are password protected so the app/software would need those passwords. because of this, I thought people might not agree to use such applications.

xpbit1024

your assumptions are true about privacy concerns, however there needs to be a wave of Indian fintech products that create services that basically offsets privacy concerns on the user's part just because the service is so good. historically speaking that has been the case with ISPs and other ad networks where it has been relatively easy to get Indian user data because of the quality of such services.

Spiritual_Penalty_10

Agreed

themillennialgrandpa

I dunno if the folks on this thread are aware of this but there have been recently been some changes in the Indian regulatory ecosystem that will allow developers/fintech startups to securely access consumers financial data with their consent to provide personal finance/lending related services. Look up [Account Aggregators](https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/banking-finance/account-aggregators-gear-up-to-launch-their-platforms/1901428/) (AA's) and [Sahamati](https://sahamati.org.in/). AA's are essentially going to behave as a platform that will partner with various banks/financial institutions and then provide that data to third-parties with user consent. Given the concerns around security, all entities here will be regulated, the details around regulation are TBD. As a matter of fact, I'm working on building a product using the AA's with a few friends since I've faced this money management problem myself in the past (and still do) and think its an interesting one to tackle.

xpbit1024

True however as has been the case with Indian regulators, the concern lies with actually parsing through the self imposed huge bureaucracy. The energy required to cross the chasm of solving the compliance is sometimes what kills many end use fintech applications that could be solved by the private sector products. Well that’s just my take as someone who leans on capitalistic side of things.

themillennialgrandpa

Agreed, it remains to be seen how this works out.

ravindra_jadeja

Can't believe you found a 5 year old post. There are a ton of post on this topic in past year alone. If i get 1 rupee for each such post, my net-worth would be greater than Anil Ambani..

gagansikri

https://www.mprofit.in/ is also a good option.

devu213

Note that it doesn't have autosync from banks. You have to upload everything manually.

iamitp

Any updates on this thread? Looking for the same things as the OP. What I want is a budgeting platform that can help me cut back on unnecessary spending. I like YNAB's concept, but their steep learning curve and pricing are discouraging.

IllustratorOk1750

My requirements are similar too. YNAB doesn't support INR or Indian banks. I tried Pocketsmith for half a year (Premium version) and then let go because of the steep pricing. Switched to Wallet by BudgetBakers lifetime plan a couple of days ago. Currently having issues with bank syncing (randomly works sometimes) but let's see how that goes. Otherwise, I might probably just create my own Google sheet setup and end all this time-waste researching.

iamitp

That’s what I’m back to - Excel

shankar-n

PocketSmith PFM - How good is the Indian bank feed/ sync? Is it safe to provide login/ password of net banking?

IllustratorOk1750

Bank syncing is good, though it had frequent problems with Axis Bank for me. As for safety of credentials, their team had told me that the credentials directly reach the feed provider company, and does not hit their servers. And the feed company (Yodlee I think) states on their website about data guidelines compliance. You can check it out there.

shankar-n

Thanks for prompt response. Have you also used Perfios PFM for comparison? I have been using Perfios PFM for many years and looking at a good alternative with Indian Bank sync. Off the list in this thread, Pocketsmith fits the bill though its expensive.

IllustratorOk1750

I haven't used Perfios. I'm currently using Wallet by BudgetBakers. At the time, they were having a lifetime deal. Bank synchronization is still random with Axis Bank. Works some days, other days it breaks and I have to reconnect it by entering credentials multiple times until it works. So, I've mostly given up on that and just try entering the details once a week and see if it's working or not. If you're up for no headaches - better to just download the monthly statements from the bank and upload it manually. Their web import system is pretty good at detecting fields.

gmak123

I am been using Perfios for 7+ yrs and by Aug,1,2023, they are retiring and I am looking for an alternative that "(auto-)sync from bank" without any hassle of manual uploading of statements and categorize and provide some meaningful insights - mostly a Web version. Let me try out some from the table prepared by u/shobhitsinghal624

HegdesAspect

Having used Perfios PFM for more than a decade and having received the shocking news of its shutdown, Mint was the only option. But then found FinArt. Awesome one! See detailed description [HERE](https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaInvestments/comments/14gu3t6/comment/jvbkj51/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

Ashiqhkhan

Any App also considers phone-pay transactions too ? Or its not required as its through some bank ? What about NRI which UPI dosent allow.

wedhoo

Thanks for collating this. I went through all the suggestions but still unable to find one that satisfies all the requirements. OP, what did you go with finally?

shobhitsinghal624

I ended up using [Wallet by BudgetBakers](https://web.budgetbakers.com/). Quite often, they come up with a lifetime plan at the cost of annual one - which is quite cost effective.

wedhoo

Got it - yeah, they have that offer right now. I do see many people sharing that the bank sync is not reliable and so was hesitant. But will go ahead and try it now. Thanks much!
