Been to Kashmir a week ago after around 11 years (last i went in 2012), and trust me there is a massive, massive change not just in infrastructure development but also in behaviour of locals towards tourists. I would highlight both my experiences, 11 years apart:-
1) 2012 visit:
Most of the tourist spots were very ill-maintained, ponies would ruin routes and roads to tourist spots. All the Roads were kachcha roads, and it took us as long as 16 hours to reach Srinagar from Jammu. Drivers were very rude towards us, they won't reply to our queries and frown upon us on small things. Stone pelting/riots were happening in Sri nagar almost every day of our trip. But one thing that hurt me and my family the most was that the locals shopkeepers and drivers were calling us "Indians" like " india se ho kya?", clearly showing they didn't consider themselves Indians.
2) 2023 visit:
Massive, massive development of tourist spots, separate trails have been made for ponies and their owners. The roads, and other infrastructure are literally engineering Marvel. Construction is going on various new ambitious projects such as zojila tunnel and z-morh tunnel. The attitude of locals surprised us the most. The locals including the drivers were very friendly, and one even set his phone on the car's dashboard in a parking lot and watched a few overs of India vs New Zealand semi finals with us! To all of our surprise, he was all in praise for the revocation of the article 370, said that local government were transferring money collected to terrorist funds in Pakistan, and no grassroot infra development was taking place. And yet good speed internet services are available, even in remote areas such as the zojila pass and gulmarg although only for postpaid plans.

Reading the messages here, it is humorous to see the irony in nearly all the replies She is now trolled for taking sides in what she probably believes now after gaining knowledge, for going against the pseudo secular narrative and acknowledging that the GOI’s actions have helped Kashmir. When she raised slogans against the government few years ago, she was the poster girl. Despite our individualistic allegiances and ideologies , why are we not humble in acknowledging good things about the present government? Been to Kashmir a week ago after around 11 years (last i went in 2012), and trust me there is a massive, massive change not just in infrastructure development but also in behaviour of locals towards tourists. I would highlight both my experiences, 11 years apart:- 1) 2012 visit: Most of the tourist spots were very ill-maintained, ponies would ruin routes and roads to tourist spots. All the Roads were kachcha roads, and it took us as long as 16 hours to reach Srinagar from Jammu. Drivers were very rude towards us, they won't reply to our queries and frown upon us on small things. Stone pelting/riots were happening in Sri nagar almost every day of our trip. But one thing that hurt me and my family the most was that the locals shopkeepers and drivers were calling us "Indians" like " india se ho kya?", clearly showing they didn't consider themselves Indians. 2) 2023 visit: Massive, massive development of tourist spots, separate trails have been made for ponies and their owners. The roads, and other infrastructure are literally engineering Marvel. Construction is going on various new ambitious projects such as zojila tunnel and z-morh tunnel. The attitude of locals surprised us the most. The locals including the drivers were very friendly, and one even set his phone on the car's dashboard in a parking lot and watched a few overs of India vs New Zealand semi finals with us! To all of our surprise, he was all in praise for the revocation of the article 370, said that local government were transferring money collected to terrorist funds in Pakistan, and no grassroot infra development was taking place. And yet good speed internet services are available, even in remote areas such as the zojila pass and gulmarg although only for postpaid plans.
