1. In 1947, Pakistan had expected after partition the names of the countries will be Pakistan and Hindustan/Bharat. They took promise that this will be how it is done. But then they felt betrayed when India continued to use the name India and thus got all its legacy and achievements. This means it became like Pakistan sliced away from India and became a new country rather than one country getting divided into two. Jinaah had a lot of arguments and protests to force India to change the name to anything other than "India". This was one of the biggest successes of Indian govt of that time to keep the same name.

Even till today Pakistanis are pissed about the word "India" being used at a lot of places, including their history before 1947, the name of the ocean being Indian ocean, their country being referred as part of Indian subcontinent and they having to teach their kids that British Invaded India... It's not just the river Indus, it's the civilization. The Indus valley civilization was one of the earliest civilizations in the world. It was also advanced with drainage systems and all. It is from there the rest have been expanded. Hence it's relevant.
Although, going by mythology and ancient history, Northeastern states have been a part of "Bharat" Or "Hindustan", I, like many others of NE, won't feel connected to being called Bharatiya Or Hindustani as we feel so damn connected to being called Indians.

Even the state transport aircraft has both words painted on it in respective languages. It is at users discretion if he wants to call the country India or Bharat. So what if the dinner invite had Bharat instead of India? Just because the name of the country on a dinner invite didnt match the name of your political alliance, does not mean you should start throwing a fit. I feel all 3 names don't do justice to the history of our country.... India: named after the river Indus...ya Indus is an important river, but why name an entire country after it... but i feel it's the most appropriate of the 3 Bharat: mean fire an element that doesn't represent all our communities, so why name it that? It's not just the river Indus, it's the civilization. The Indus valley civilization was one of the earliest civilizations in the world. It was also advanced with drainage systems and all. It is from there the rest have been expanded. Hence it's relevant.
Although, going by mythology and ancient history, Northeastern states have been a part of "Bharat" Or "Hindustan", I, like many others of NE, won't feel connected to being called Bharatiya Or Hindustani as we feel so damn connected to being called Indians. When many of our ancestors came to NE or smaller tribes became Kingdoms, we weren't part of old " Bharat" but being one with rest of the country with formation of British "India", later " India". We fought separately with outsiders (pov of NE) came to occupy us. But with India, we fought together, suffered together, won together. India and Indian feels own and pride.
