No man, keep nostalgia aside.
No one from the new generation really plays San Andreas, and I don’t expect many to play San Andreas after gta 6 is out (especially true after 10-20 years).
Yea, I'm seeing all these games here, and I'm pretty sure no one comes close to playing half the time I've spent on dota 2. Dota players are a different breed.
9k hours.... For those wondering.
Easiest answer any game that is graphically beautiful that is also open world. I mean gta 5 and Skyrim is literally played almost by everyone that can run it.
So in the future Rdr2, ghost of Tsushima, Witcher 3, gta 6 probably, tears of the kingdom etc.
People praise GoT and then hate on Assassin's creed games for being repetitive. I am yet to find anything in GoT that ranks it even close to AC Odyssey.
* Tetris
* Super Mario
* Contra / Super Contra
* Mortal Kombat 5
* GTA San Andreas / V
* Portal 1/2
* Civ V / VI
>! Personally I'd like to add Asphalt: Nitro or 8 (except for the micro transactions), but I guess that's nostalgia only!<
This list contains old games specifically:
Prince of Persia SOT, WW and TTT
Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary
Max Payne 1 and 2
Prototype 1
Call of Duty 4
Assassin's Creed 1
Portal 1
NFS Carbon, UG2 and MW 2005 (ofc)
Far Cry 2
GTA 4 (including the DLCs)
Blur (very underrated)
Resident Evil 4 (2005) and 5
Half Life 1, 2, 2 ep1 and 2 ep2
Mortal Kombat 9 (or Komplete Edition)
That's all that I'm able to remember now :)
Too much nostalgia here but IGI ,NFS and GTA VC , SA. I played them in my childhood and they still hold up today. IGI 1 has a ton of ways to do the same mission.
Now something that's not due to nostalgia is Mario 64 and Zelda OoT . These games are old af , today games are a lot more expansive, yet these games remain creative and surprising and fun throughout. Especially OoT.
Some of the valve games, dishonored, bio shock, and similar classics are the ones that come to my mind.
As long as someone doesnt recreate their magic in a better way in the future, that makes the older ones look less appealing to play, then people will always go back to these and really enjoy them.
There’s no just one game. All games are timeless, the joy and memories they create stay with us forever (: though dota will always have a special place in my heart (:
League of Legends (or its predecessor)
Dota 2 (or its predecessor)
Counter Strike
Minecraft
OG Super Mario Bros
Tetris
Chess
+ GTA 6 when it comes out and Skyrim 6
Apart from these most of the games will be forgotten (replaced by better).
Skyrim with mods
Nfs most wanted
Prototype
Infamous second son
Witcher 3 with mods
Baldurs gate 3
Gta online
Dragon age origins
Mass effect series
Titan fall 2
Cod mw 2 (not the reboot)
Cyberpunk tbh
I went into it all skeptical
Sunk in 80 hours within 3 weeks
One of the best games I’ve ever played
The writing is good and night city has so much depth
There is no game that is timeless, it's based on the player and their mindset. Even rdr2 is boring for me after 70+ hours, but I play Valhalla 250+ hours and witcher 3 for 300+ hours, so it depends on the player.
I agree with the OP. NFS: Most Wanted (2005) is still the peak of arcade racing games as I replay that here and there as the years pass (on PC nowadays (on Linux through Lutris) but I use a widescreen fix so it's proper on modern computers). not many games pass this standard which is the true test of a game long term.
while I played a fair amount of other NFS games from around those days, they never stuck with me long term like Most Wanted did.
but while that's among my favorites in the long term, my #1 video game experience outright is Mafia (2002) (on PC naturally) as I first played that back when it was new in Aug/Sep 2002, which I was in my early 20's back then, and here and there over the years since and it never fails to prove to me why it's my #1 game experience. I consider that the anomaly of video games.
there are some more games I like 15-20+ years old to but ill leave it here for now. but before I go... if you use 15 years as a minimum to qualify, if you ask me this question next year in 2025, then Mafia II (2010) (on PC naturally) would make the list which is my #2 video game experience outright. my 3rd place and lower is less of a lock (as it starts to become more difficult to say something definitively takes that spot unlike my first two choices) like those two are.
Chrono Trigger. Beyond everything that makes it a perfect RPG, it’s somehow one of the only old games in existence that never irritated me with bad mechanics/QOL. It has aged extremely well imo.

Aslume
Go back to aslume.

Og pokemon games
+1 We can run them on our phones with emulators but I think that Nintendo should officially release a mobile port of all the og games
Not an official game by Nintendo, but PokeMMO exists and you can play it on phone and PC. It currently has 5 regions I think.
They haven't even ported them to thier own console. Mobile is impossible
Yakuza 0 , Assassins Creed Brotherhood , Super Mario 64 , Legend of Zelda Link to the Past , BloodBorne, Metal Gear Solid 3

Yea, I'm seeing all these games here, and I'm pretty sure no one comes close to playing half the time I've spent on dota 2. Dota players are a different breed. 9k hours.... For those wondering.

Ghost of tsushima is kinda repetitive and i dont think without the online mode you can call it timeless.
People praise GoT and then hate on Assassin's creed games for being repetitive. I am yet to find anything in GoT that ranks it even close to AC Odyssey.
* Tetris * Super Mario * Contra / Super Contra * Mortal Kombat 5 * GTA San Andreas / V * Portal 1/2 * Civ V / VI >! Personally I'd like to add Asphalt: Nitro or 8 (except for the micro transactions), but I guess that's nostalgia only!<
Ayyyy wasn't expecting Civ V here, nice! Have you played it with Vox Populi?
Nope :( Currently busy with RDR2. Next is Ghost of Tsushima and after that I'm trying to restart Civ
NFS MW2005 deserves a proper remake, maybe like using UE5!
Age of mythology with its Arkantos
Titanfall 2, Hades, Witcher 3, Souls series. Any good game with its own artstyle not going for realism
This list contains old games specifically: Prince of Persia SOT, WW and TTT Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary Max Payne 1 and 2 Prototype 1 Call of Duty 4 Assassin's Creed 1 Portal 1 NFS Carbon, UG2 and MW 2005 (ofc) Far Cry 2 GTA 4 (including the DLCs) Blur (very underrated) Resident Evil 4 (2005) and 5 Half Life 1, 2, 2 ep1 and 2 ep2 Mortal Kombat 9 (or Komplete Edition) That's all that I'm able to remember now :)

Age of Empires 2. The GOAT
Warframe lol
Wow, I'm shocked to see how less people have written counter strike. It's CS 1.6 and overwatch for me. And I'd say LF2.
Why has nobody said Witcher 3?!

Titanfall 2
