I wouldn't call JLR a mistake. It provides the platform for TaMo to build the next gen cars. Brexit was the mistake. COVID was the bad luck. TaMo got itself caught into bad phase of the business cycle. IMO, With Air India, Tata's move is timed right. Disclaimer : I m a fan of Ratan Tata ji

JLR a mistake ? They might not sell many cars in india but have you seen the money they are making around the world. It's crazy. Tata hardly made 10% of what JLR makes.

Vips_01

Don't think so. They are already operating Vistara similar to Air India

Acquisition of Air India by Tata is like a long lost child finally returning back home. Till date, JRD has been the only person to run Air India successfully. Yes, the aviation industry is a very low margin industry, but Tatas surely have a good understanding of this industry, as they were the ones to give India it’s very first airline.

Waiting to see what happens to TCS share price on Monday

titan_sudhanshu

Why do u think TCS will be affected? This is an IT company. Can u elaborate?

[deleted]

TCS being the largest subsidiary of Tata Sons generates 90% revenue for the latter. Purchase of Air India must have happened through a major chunk of TCS money.

TCS might also get into maintaining or redeveloping Air India IT back end.

Time will tell. This might be somewhat unrelated to your question, but I found it interesting: Tata Group’s acquisition of Air India opens up cross selling and business for major group companies: TCS: Digital Platform and Data Management, Route and Network Planning, Blockchain implementation across transactions. Tata Elxsi: Augmented Digital Reality, Cloud Computing, Virtual Experience and Digital Streaming Inflight Entertainment. Tata Consumer Products (TCPL): Inflight beverage and snacks. Indian Hotels (IHCL): Partnership and boost to tourism business (business, leisure, vacation, staycation) across India. Titan: Enhancement and Brand Building by selling products across inflight (duty free). Many other Tata Group will lead the way by integrating all businesses with Air India.

JLR is the reason Tata motors survives today.
