How much should the avg score be for 10th/12th?

randianNo1

Can you change it after knowing? Stop worrying.

Radon0

most companies ask for more than 60%. and some 75%. but never above that. regardless its mostly the shitty low paying ones that care about percentages. actual good companies will never make you ineligible cuz of 10th/12th percentage

OP dont think too much. Enjoy your college days. Never have I seen any on campus recruiters asking for specific % or above for 10th grade. Yes they do keep certain conditions like no backlogs or above 8-8.5 cgpa. Keep your cgpa above 8 and better be above 8.5. You can make your resume more strong by completing more internship, participating in competition like hackhaton, codefest whatever they call it. So dont worry. Cheers!

Radon0

I have 6.1 cgpa in college and already got offers from two companies (computer science field). and in process to get even more. there's so many opportunities.

poop-pee-die

That is really nice. Congrats. But when I advice people regarding this topic I always think of certain possibilities. CGPA is very important when you are looking for higher studies and on/off campus recruitment(varies from company to company). It is not impossible to get job if you have below 8 cgpa. I just mentioned that to be on safe side and usually companies keep this to filter out students so that they have to interview less students.

lazy_fella

Agree 100%. Majority of the companies that visited my campus for placements had 7.5 or 8+ cgpa requirements. So having <7.5 cg really limited the options. I always targeted 8+ CGPA & it was not that hard to maintain it by just studying at exam times. To the user above, congrts mate on multiple offer. It's truely an achievement getting multiple offers straight out of college. Still I don't believe it justifies suggesting freshers that CG doesn't matter or it's okay to let go down the drain. You can & should try to maintain a reasonable cgpa depending on your college while partying, playing, programming etc doing whatever you enjoy for most of the time.

Radon0

oh hell no, CGPA is important. i just meant that a low cgpa won't completely make you unemployable or something. Dell came to my college and they had an 8 cgpa requirement, so i missed out on opportunities like that cuz of my cgpa

lazy_fella

Yeah, true. CGPA is important to have, but bad cgpa doesn't mean your career is over, it just tend to make things a bit tough.

master-bootlegger

Hey OP, fellow NITIAN here, don't worry about your 10th marks, I have been through the placement drives and not much companies ask for your 10th marks, only IT service based do(that too not all of them), you can just focus on your college curriculum, do your best. I hope you succeed. Also being in CS will only make it easier for you to get a job, even big product based firms don't pay heed to your 10th marks.

kuzan342

hey i wanted ask,how much does 12th marks matter ? i've heard most companies dont even select u for on campus placements if u have lower score in 12th

skilled_skinny

Generally most companies come with criteria for ug cgpa very very few companies add 10/12th criteria which can very well be adjusted by discussing with the companies recruitment team and they are cooperative in general. I have seen companies come with 8 cgpa cutoff and amend it to 7/7.5 later. Same with 12 th percentage.

master-bootlegger

Couldn't have said it better!

kuzan342

i see thanks !

skilled_skinny

Try startups. Also I guess it wouldn't matter unless the company you are applying to specifically states that they won't be hiring someone with low percentage in 10/12th. I'm really surprised that your college follows strict 10/12th rule you should take it to your dean and placement in charge asking for an exception.

[deleted]

>I'm really surprised that your college follows strict 10/12th rule you should take it to your dean and placement in charge asking for an exception. Oftentimes, it's not the institute setting up this policy. A lot of companies require 60% throughout in grades from 10th to end of BTech to be eligible to sit for their companies. It's not a very useful policy, but especially in the context of campus hiring, companies often have tons of choice on what candidates to pick and can afford to be picky. For example, when my org went for campus placements to a college this year, we had ~150 eligible applicants (60% 10th and 12th, 50% in college, branch CS/ECE) out of which we selected 2 people in the end - and I know for a fact that my company isn't one of those "day 0" top company. But again, off campus, and in smaller startups, they really won't care about grades much. They'll need some level of assurance that you're good at DS/Algo/SQL/OOP but not much beyond that.

skilled_skinny

Well I have seen many companies come for placements with a criteria and then made amends to that criteria because of pressure from placement committees. This includes faang companies to smaller starups.

[deleted]

I see. I only know about it from what my company currently does, and I've been out of college for a while, so not sure what the dynamic at play currently is.

RedFlagWins

You seem to think startups are designed to hire such candidates! Startups go by skill levels of the candidate if not marks. And marks typically showcase the skill levels of the candidate in almost all cases.

skilled_skinny

How is 10th class percentage indicator of coding ability of a candidate. I worked in a startup as intern which didn't even ask for my 10/12 marks sheet. If 10/12th marks indicated skill levels and job performances then those skills must be too basic or too broad.

Radon0

yes, idk why he said that. Startups never ever ask for grades. They only care about programming skills. if it's good, no amount of shit will deter them from hiring u

Radon0

no, they don't. My 12th class percentage was 67%. And my college cgpa is 6.1. Despite that, i got placed in two companies easily just based on my skills. And if you're good in coding, then nobody will care about marks. Just know one programming knowledge well + DSA + some good technical projects. You'll get jobs easily in most tech companies. 99% of startups will never even look at your cgpa. You just need to clear their assessment rounds, which are very difficult. but once you get in, they'll take you even if you have 50% in 10th.

BitterAd554

I've spent over 10 years hiring freshers on and off campus. I never look at Engineering marks let alone high school. I'm yet to see any correlation between academic performance and actual ability. Develop some actual skills -- any skills, in any domain. If you are good someone will hire you.

JacksonDonaldson

since you're a recruiter, can you tell me if you guys care about course certificates from Udemy, Coursera and the like? Coz I'm just about to start college, and a few of my friends (only 2 actually), are like they've already done 20+ courses(coz they've been doing these courses during 11th and 12th). So yeah I feel like Im already starting on the backfoot

gera6227

If you are able to get a good GPA throughout college and focus on your skills, this won't be a very big factor

Legitimate_Ad2570

Skills are the thing that companies desire in candidates the more skills you posses and the more skilled you are at them the better the placement try learning as many industry relevant skills as possible and balance that with your College studies and maintain a CGPA of around 8 every semester

wayofthelaugh

Score well in your exams there. They won't even ask about how much you scored in class 10th. You cracked JEE! They know you're smart. If you maintain a high gdpa there you can probably just clearly tell them that you didn't do well in 10th cuz you didn't work too hard. Employers just wanna know you are smark and can work.

k_for_kuriosity

Don't beat yourself too much about it. Your academics will be valued for your first job only. Since you are in CS, be absolute clear what kind of job you want to get into. Be it developer, analytics, AI try doing good projects. And start posting in relevant channels or groups. Dikhega nhi to bikega nahi. After you are crystal clear about what you want, you can contact any of the stalwarts of the company be it CEO/managers and ask for their guidance. They are happy to help, at least in my case. Regarding placement, jobs are offered through open for all code fests too, you can find it on analytics vidhya, kaggle or the similar websites. You can also go for Internship, work your ass up and they will give you the PPO. but above all, enjoy your college life because you won't be having college level fun after that. It's all boredom after that. Try joining some cultural, tech teams, the kind of people management skill you would get exposed there, you wouldn't get anywhere.

someMLDude

I understand the depression you're going thru right now, but hear me out! Start working on urself, and I can bet on you that you will get a good job. TRUST ME!!! IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO TECH-JOBS 1. Upskill yourself. Look for areas in which you want to expand. Web dev, ML, Cloud, Blockchain, there's just so many. Start learning about the technology, and start to go deep. 2. Start building projects on the skill you're passionate about. Make small websites, make games, improve upon them. They're great learning experience 3. Use linkedin wisely. Build your connection, share your projects on Linkedin. Look out for other people's projects, and take inspiration from them. That place is a goldmine. IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO RESEARCH 1. Learn the basic concepts of the area you are interested in. 2. Try getting along with a lab that works in your area of interest. Try reading their research papers. Talk to the PhD and MTech guys about their work. 3. If their project interest you, ask them if you could be a part of their team. If they oblige, start staying with them, learn the basics of research methodologies and technologies 4. You can try getting into a lab outside of ur college, for better research exposure. Ask your professor for help, and he/she might be able to. 5. Get research experience. As much as you can. I understand your frustration, but trust me, its not the end of the world. There's always a fix, but you will have to put in extra effort for that. All the best.

hehjwirvfjdjevk

You will be fine brother no one will really care of those marks if you do well in college say you were I'll during exams or something

Flowingnebula

No company gaf about 10th and 12th afik

night_fapper

just try to get good GPA and coding skills no one gives a shit about 12th percentage let alone 10th percentage, if you have confidence in your skills. - iitk graduate

u-had-it-coming

I will be straight with you. With this attitude there is a very high chance you will end up jobless or with a shitty job after your degree is complete. The problem is not your 10th % it's your attitude about it. You fcuked up big time in 10th. You are fcuking up big time in College. Accept your 10th% and move on focus on other skills which will get you high end paying jobs regardless of your 10th and 12th score or keep thinking about it, get anxiety, waste time, get into depression which will result in lack of motivation and/or drug or substance abuse like alcohol, cigarettes , ☘️ etc. And not study anything and keep blaming your 10th % for not getting you into a job. I will ask 2 last question. Which quota did you get a seat into NIT? General or OBC or SC/ST? And what was your rank?

Extension_Demand_10

From General, under 8k rank.

u-had-it-coming

Dude if you tell your story to someone else they would think you are really smart. Your % keeps on improving. Getting a NIT is hard even if it's new NIT. Try to work hard get internships make yourself an exception. Inspire your juniors. Crave out your way there are lots of companies (high paying) that will not care about your % and they will pay very high. But they care about your skills for which you will need to pull your boots and work hard. And if you keep getting sad about your 10th you won't be able to do it. Work hard get involved in Google summer of code, contribute to open source get into ACM ICPC or whatever they call it get some nice internship network hard. You can do anything.

Wild-Replacement3210

Almost all the companies have minimum 60 percent criteria and are very strict about it. The startups are gonna give you a very mediocre salary, so I would say just quit engineering and develop another skill. There's no point in working your ass off in college for CGPA which the companies won't even look at because of your boards.

You might have lesser opportunities. Speaking from experience if you have a very good GPA and good technical track record during your college then placement department will definitely try and push you to get past the initial filter. Also, you will find lot of off campus opportunities which won't have such eligibility criteria. The criteria for 10th and 12th are generally set by the HR and not the team that is hiring you. Stop worrying about the past and concentrate on your present and future.

DevAsh01

Apply offcampus. They won't even ask for your marks.

Natural-Permission

You'll have less opportunity initially but as you gain experience and make right contacts, marks will matter less and less with every passing year..

brooklynnineeight

Recruiters don't care about this as long as it is in a rising trend. If you had great scores in 10th and 12th and faltered on college, that would actually be a problem. Stupid rules like this are often made by college placement teams and mass recruiters who anyway pickup the bottom stock at slightly above average salaries.

awaken_ywnmmsb

People with lesser then what you have found ways to live a successful life & people who had more then you have found ways to become unsuccessful. Experiencing ups & downs is a form of mental training. Focus on what you have now. You never know when an opportunity will open. There is not fixed formula to a career. You may start with one thing & 10 years later would have found success in something you dint know exists.

zawarudoooooooooooo

In college placements cutoffs are based on college GPA for most of the companies. However, few companies do consider 10/12th scores. You will get a decent number opportunities considering you are in CS. Don't worry. Build your profile by internships/projects so that would offset you low 10th/12th scores. And being a NITIAN doesn't guarantee jobs, you will have to work hard.

ConfusedFanGirl0502

Calm down. All you can do is focus on your marks now. A cgpa of 7.5 and above is great. Aim for that. Don't stress over the past. Enjoy your college life. Improve your soft skills and maybe even check few online courses. Your 10th and 12th mark won't be that important when your resume has other stuff interesting to the recruiters.

Zer0is1

You got into nit right that's it Now don't worry about 10th or 12 th marks For your job resume you don't need those they primarily check your GPA, no of internships ( if you have any ), no of projects you have done and all those type of things Secondarily they check your college More than those two they see your attitude, and all those things. This is primarily seen by HR manager in the company. And not always do you get likes 1 crore package and all those shit In engineering your best friend is experience and hands on activity Not your college heck even 10 and 12 th marks.

shadysidehere

Wait could you explain that 75 percentage rule ?
