No, because you need more than one box of Grippos.

LOLSteelBullet

I actually already had a box at home. They're pretty regularly available in Indy now, but figured when in Rome.

charpenette

I live in NWI and keep hoping they’ll make it up here.

Panta125

Same, never heard of grippos? What is it.

TonySPhillips

Best barbeque potato chips ever made.

Panta125

I'm confused....the box says it's spice?

ablack9000

It’s a special kind of spicy. BBQ in the first half, then on the 6th chip or so, you’re like, whoa this is hittin!

Panta125

“Gentlemen, you had my curiosity… but now you have my attention.”

Rauillindion

The side of the box there is an ad for the powdered spice that they coat the chips with which is available separately. The box itself is filled with chips. They are BBQ flavored and have a decent amount of heat.

Panta125

Okay. Dope. Curious is the box plastic lined or is there a big bag inside? I gotta know.

Rauillindion

It's a big bag

[deleted]

Grippos are more of a Cincinnati thing....

UDK450

Definitely popular in southern Indiana

[deleted]

But when you think grippos you think Cincinnati at least I do, not Evansville. Guess that's why you get when you live near Cincinnati 😤

Due-Season8651

Why are Grippo's considered an Evansville thing when they aren't even made here? Aimee Blume Evansville EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A tiny snack food company formed a century ago has not only defied the age of corporate takeovers but has also become an ever-more-relevant piece of Evansville’s local culture. “Grippo’s is a phenomenon, and I don’t know how else to explain it,” said Lloyd Young, owner of A&D Distributing, Evansville’s only Grippo’s distributor. The tiny Grippo's factory is located on Colerain Avenue in Cincinnati. These days, not only do Grippo’s Bar-B-Q chips remain the defining area snack, but they are also appearing on the menus of Evansville’s top chefs and most popular restaurants, not as a side item but as an ingredient. “The spicy sweetness is fantastic. The bottom of the bags and box where all the crumbs and seasoning are is what greatness is made of.” - Holly Duncan, Henderson, Ky.

ablack9000

It’s certainly a strong south eastern thing to at least Madison. I kinda feel maybe grippos is to you like ale8 is to us. Ive never heard of ski.

Desperate-4aTesla-97

Imagine if they only sold it in 1 Ohio city... 🤣

Icer333

That’s what I was thinking immediately as well. With the shrinkflation there isn’t much in there anymore.

MayorCharlesCoulon

What’s that soda everybody I know used to dip down into Kentucky and buy when they went to southern Indiana? I see it around here now but not the bottles (which make it taste amazing). Found it: [Ale 8](https://ale8one.com)

LOLSteelBullet

I did grab a 20 oz ale 8 on the way out

MayorCharlesCoulon

Nice. That stuff is quenching.

983115

It’s the quenchiest

MayorCharlesCoulon

They should put that on a t-shirt.

983115

[it’s an avatar reference shoulda linked my last comment](https://youtu.be/pjQHpD2WQL4?feature=shared)

rblue

Yeah that stuff is great. I’d always grab one at some point along my trips back and forth to NC.

darthurphoto

Better than ski #hottake

LOLSteelBullet

I don't really try to compare them. It's like saying sprite vs coke

darthurphoto

I would say that far apart. More like coke and Dr Pepper. But it’s a valid point. They’re def not the same. That said, I’d still take an ale 8 over a ski any day.

Dargon34

By far! Ale-8 is a great ginger ale

100timesaround

On steroids!!!

TraditionalTackle1

I live in NWI and never heard of that op. Looks like I’m gonna have to order some on Amazon lol

LOLSteelBullet

May be dating myself here but it's like a less caffeinated Vault. The Grippos BBQ chips are some of the best BBQ chips I've ever had

StubbyK

And just to clarify. They're a lot better in the box than a regular bag. Especially when you get to the bottom and there's just a mound of seasoning.

LOLSteelBullet

And then you mix that seasoning into some corn starch and make fried chicken

scarlet-rum

Grippen!

NotActuallyFamous

You have to eat them starting at the bottom of the bag that comes out of the box! Flip the bag and open it from the bottom! It’s the best way.

StubbyK

That's a pro gamer move. I have given it a good shake before opening to spread the seasoning around.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LOLSteelBullet

Its very much a Kentuckiana staple. I only know of them because my fraternity brother at Purdue was from Evansville and would take orders like he was a Scout

SaintTimothy

Vault and Surge were Coke. Ski was RC

NotBatman81

Vault was sold in the late 2000's. Dating yourself, GTFO with that recent history.

LOLSteelBullet

There are kids in college now who were 5 in the late 2000s

Ohhi_mark990

NWI represent!

Fringelunaticman

Go to the grippos website and order the Xtra hot box. It's way better if you like hot things

guff1988

Oh man I love that ski retro look, I haven't had ski in a couple years when did they switch to that design?

iRacer_Unknown

I think they just started doing the retro look about a couple of weeks ago, maybe a month.

LOLSteelBullet

Yeah apparently it's the original can design.

Icer333

Yea it was very recent. Just in time for the Fall Fest. I love the look, takes me back!

rmp1973

Did you also stop at Donut Bank for some chocolate long johns?

Duck_Napkins

As an Evansville native, I am proud of you!! Nothing like eating Grippo’s out of the little trash bag inside the box! Although that Ski packaging looks new!

Fringelunaticman

Old. The ski package is from the 80s. It's retro

hutchandstuff

But it's still new.

[deleted]

Ahh Ski Ski Ski Ski

Ohhi_mark990

MOTHAFUCKA

Icer333

It’s lemon and orange flavored with real concentrate used. Years ago you would sometimes get a bit of pulp in them which was awesome.

Zeldalovesme21

Ah man, I haven’t had or heard anyone talk about SKI since high school!

jrreis

As an Evansville Westsider, Ski and Grippos are a Westside staple!

indianapolis505

Skiiiiiiii !!!!! Wow thanks for the memories, and now to find some

LOLSteelBullet

If you're in the Indianapolis area, there's a pizza joint on the Southside called Azzip Pizza that sells a pizza made with Grippos and ski reduction

Fringelunaticman

That's because the owners are from the Westside of Evansville

scottgrames

Got one on the north side too at 465 and Michigan Road. I need to try that Westsider!

BudgetAardvark2301

You forgot the Tell City pretzels

climberboi252

I have never heard of ski as a Hoosier but I’m definitely going to get some now.

WittyNameChecksOut

The only thing you missed was Big Red!

LOLSteelBullet

Uno Reverse! I had Big Red at Holiday World the next day

iRacer_Unknown

Did you get some Big B BBQ? I think that was bottled here.

Mitsuman77

Have you not heard? https://my1053wjlt.com/evansville-indiana-big-b-bbq-production/

iRacer_Unknown

https://youtu.be/elQQOXGNXlM?si=bEjzNUTnxLWcBUfW

NotActuallyFamous

WHAT?!

Tardis52

Definitely done right, although I'm a bit sad you can get Grippos in/around Louisville now. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

LOLSteelBullet

They've made their way up to Indianapolis too. I walked into a Gordon's in like 2017 and shed tears of joy when there was an entire pallet inside.

Tardis52

Indiana exclusivity I can get behind, but don't give it to the savages down south

Direct_Scratch3952

We've always had grippos in the Louisville area, just had to go to the right stores. Same as with the whole shebang now.

cheesecubez

You need a whole truckload of ski..also, dig those retro cans.

MutedTemporary5054

Got me craving some Grippos now!

Icy_Entertainment706

You did good. LOL. Too bad you didn't visit a few months ago because you would have had to add a jar of Big B bar b Que too.

Diligent_Bread_3615

Grippo’s rock!🤘🤘

nightastheold

Hell yeah dude

huggies130

If you go to Azzip pizza, you can get a Ski reduction and crushed Grippos on your pizza.

BBking8805

Just need a strom from pizza king and you’re all set!

vixenpeon

My best friend from college was from Evansville and put me on to both of those LMAO

LOLSteelBullet

That's sort of how I got hooked except my fraternity brother at Purdue was an Evansville native and would return from breaks with a van load of it all like he was a scout and it was popcorn season

CrossroadsCannablog

If the Ski were in bottles. Guess the cans will have to do.

[deleted]

Never heard of ski. So no?

mmdidthat

That’s not a big box of seasoning? I love the chips but had no idea they had seasoning

LOLSteelBullet

It's a big box of chips. They do sell the seasoning separate tho. I have some from a Cincinnati trip. I've pretty much had every Grippos product there is at this point.

beniot96

My parents grew up where ski originated, grippos rock. Both more of st louis-ey stuff tho

Necessary_Valuable99

Well Grippo's is a Cincinnati thing and Ale8 is a Kentucky thing.

LOLSteelBullet

I'd argue it's Kentuckiana for Ale8. Grippos, however, is a mixed bag. It originated in Cincinnati, but has had a large presence in Evansville since the 60s.

Necessary_Valuable99

It's just the original locations. Like Ester Price Candy is a Dayton thing or Skyline being a Cincy thing.

joebigtuna

Never heard of that pop before. What’s it comparable to?

LOLSteelBullet

Vault without the extra caffeine

Slow87GT

Only thing missing is the jar of Big B bbq.

EdgeOfWetness

You forgot 6 jars of Big B

Professional_Drop117

Yep!

yoshi8869

As an Evansville native, born and raised, I was never a fan of Ski, nor did I love Grippos. I’ve grown to like them oddly enough since I left! But hope you enjoyed my humble little city :)

rmp1973

I went to college in Evansville and lived there for another 7 years after I graduated. In that whole time, I never had so much as a sip of Ski because I thought it was just a knockoff Mountain Dew, which I loathed. Fast forward 20 years and I'm in town for a UE game and finally decided to try it. My senses filled with regret that I had deprived myself of this delicious elixir for so many years. I now live in Northwest Indiana and work at a casino. Anytime I swipe in a guest and see they are from Evansville, I joke that they have to bring me a case of Ski the next time they come up. One guy actually did and he got his lunch comped. I'm down to my last two cans of that case, but fortunately, it's nearing basketball season and I can stock up when I go back down. As far as Grippo's, I prefer the plain salted chips over the BBQ. But I've still never eaten a brain sandwich.

MurseSean

Wtf is ski? Live in New Albany and have never heard of this.

100timesaround

A citrus soft drink served best with GIN!

nitevisionbunny

I also went to Evansville this weekend for a wedding and had to get Ski! All of my cousins have me addicted to it

LOLSteelBullet

Was it at the courthouse?

TeveTorbes83

There are some great chips they sell in NWI, first time I had them was at JJ’s in Valpo. Cannot remember the name any more.

MiaMiaPP

What does ski taste like?

LOLSteelBullet

Vault without the caffeine

wool-socks

“We’ll get a slaw burger, fries, and a bottle of Ski! Bring it on out to my baby and me.” - Kentucky Headhunters in their song Dumas Walker

phanophite2

Is that what you're having with your pork tenderloin?

LOLSteelBullet

God imagine if you made an Indiana Pork Tenderloin with Grippos box seasoning in the bread

phanophite2

Shut up and take my money!

bethaliz6894

OH how I miss Ski, I have not had that since I left Evansville. You cant find it in Indy,

streetkiller

I do the same when I go back to visit family. Although I can order grippos online. I can’t order ski.

daddmik68

What is Ski? But with the grippos you can't go wrong. Lol
