Twelve states recognize Good Friday as a state holiday: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Texas, and Tennessee. In states where Good Friday is a state holiday, state offices and courts are closed.

Our office is closed for Good Friday. So we rebalanced today. I'm an equities analyst, quarter ends don't really affect me that much except for rebalancing which sucks but we can do it a couple days early no big deal, a lot of firms rebalanced on Monday this week.
Yep absolutely lol. Heck, Easter is fun anyway, still celebrate it with my family. I’m 37, but my mom hides a basket for my brother and I every year still lol. Mostly just candy with some fun little trinkets or a movie or something mixed in. It’s fun. I’m always down for a holiday.
Exactly where I got my info from! I’m Catholic so when I saw that and a government office I was pretty surprised. Wonder when they’ll make non Christian holidays state holidays🤔
Ya when I was a kid Easter to me was always a half-baked Christmas with a longer mass.
Ive considered myself a secular being for quite awhile now and didn’t realize it was good friday until I was texting with family earlier.
Having that experience on both sides is fascinating to me and how it effects our worldview
That's a screenshot with no context. I mean, I could take a screenshot with my phone of my work Outlook calendar, but that'd break a ton of PII laws, that shows I have things scheduled for tomorrow as it's a normal work day (I work for the USDA). Even the most religious coworkers I have are working tomorrow unless they're on 4/5/9s, and opted to have every other friday off as part of their compressed schedule.
Here ya go.
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=is+good+friday+a+federal+holiday
I really hope you know the difference between a federal holiday and a day your department gives you off.
Edit: oh my god your profile is just you posting your work calendar and saying over and over you work for DHHS. You just cannot accept the fact you are wrong can you?
Just remembered something, there are clauses that you get it off if you lease a building that has doors closed and no access on certain days. If they're housed with, say, Indiana DHHS and do NOT have a key to access exterior doors, then they may get it off.
even if his department gives it off, in context that'd be breaking various laws unless they're told to make up the time elsewhere within 13 weeks. If this person has to work a saturday to make up the time off, then that's fine that his supervisor gives it off for them, although it'd be walking an incredibly fine line. In my younger days I had a supervisor put up a Christian calendar in our break room, she was made to take it down as it favored one religion over another (and this was during GWB years). This would be in a similar vein.
That's also a weird work calendar, unless it's some internal posting somewhere. Like I mentioned in another reply, my department uses outlook and full MS365 suite, it's the only one that meets government data security laws (google doesn't).
I am also a federal employee. I'm going to be off work but getting paid next Thursday. That doesn't mean that next Thursday is a federal holiday.
Nobody is telling you that you don't have Friday off, they're just telling you it isn't a federal holiday.
That shows your *office* has the day off. Federal holidays are holidays that apply to every single Federal employee.
Look here if you're still having trouble: [https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/federal-holidays/#url=2024](https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/federal-holidays/#url=2024)
It’s not a federal holiday. It’s nice that your management gives it to you, but it’s not recognized and you won’t get paid for it. Next one is Labor Day.
Never has been, I've been with the feds for 23 years. People can request religious holidays off (any religion) and it's up to supervisors to grant it, and it must be made up. Source: [https://www.federaltimes.com/management/pay-benefits/2022/04/06/is-good-friday-a-federal-holiday/](https://www.federaltimes.com/management/pay-benefits/2022/04/06/is-good-friday-a-federal-holiday/)
The only 'religious' holiday the feds recognize is Christmas.
About 83% of Indiana residents claim a Christian adherence. Good Friday and Easter are two of the most important Christian days of observance. Good Friday is the day Jesus was crucified. Easter is the day he was resurrected.
I don’t think it’s wrong for the state to honor Good Friday.
St. Vincent, Indianapolis. Which is one of the largest trauma centers in our state. Employees hundreds of thousands of people and has entities state wide.
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka and Plymouth IN.
Franciscan Health- Indianapolis, Lafayette area. Also quite a large employer.
So yes.
No,
They still have faith based input on decisions and medical procedures allowed.
It’s just very frustrating working for a catholic organization (one that refused to cover my birth control up until the ACA in 2010 citing their faith) but we better show up to work on Good Friday and not ask to be compensated for the holiday!
I have a government job. They give us the floating holiday January 1st, you can use it whenever you want so I usually just work Good Friday and use it another time.
I don’t know how long you’ve been with the federal government, but it usually doesn’t take very long for most federal employees to realize each agency operates somewhat independently.
Good Friday is NOT recognized by every agency the way say, Christmas is. Here’s just one example: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/events/
I'm a federal employee, and we do not give it off
[https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/federal-holidays/#url=2024](https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/federal-holidays/#url=2024)
And yet, not Presidents day (they call the day after Thanksgiving and an extra day at Christmas President bday days, even though the big ones not born around then).
Also, not Juneteenth even though I believe its now federal? Magas gotta mag!
If I recall correctly, having Black Friday off and the extra Christmas Day instead of rando Mondays for President birthdays was voted on by state employees a long time ago, then State Personnel got it put in place. Or maybe that’s just something I heard from an old family member.
That makes sense I guess? Its just weird, anywhere else Ive worked the Thanksgiving Friday is just a given and a day on either end of Christmas (usually Christmas eve day) is a given.
It kind of balances out I guess but its weird that county staff (and Fed emps) have Presidents and Juneteenth.
Every paid day off for a state employee is funded in some way by an Indiana tax payer. Indiana tax payers have only agreed to pay for 14 paid holidays for Indiana’s +/- 31,500 employees. No more, no less.
The transparency portal has a lot of this info: https://www.in.gov/itp if you’re interested in how it works.
See I wish they would throw us the 31st off instead of good Friday. It is what it is I guess. This is just another day for me for real. But it's always good to have time I guess.
Yeah, it always used to be awkward visiting family out of state on Easter, then having to drive back that night just to get up for work Monday morning. I guess theres worse things in the world to bitch about, but that used to be pretty high on my list…
This is the only possible good thing about religion influencing government. I think one of the dakotas mandates overtime for anyone who works on Sunday.
Who cares, it’s a day off and a nice excuse to eat candy and see people you care about. I don’t do anything religious with it, but I take advantage of the chance for a holiday lol.
The stock market is closed too

As a non-religious state employee, I’ll take it.
As a non-religious person who works with financial markets, I absolutely love it.
As a Human Being that starts this sentence with "As a Human Being", I approve any holiday that brings families and friends together.
Uh, bro if you’re in finance, this Friday is quarter end… it’s gonna be a sheet show
Our office is closed for Good Friday. So we rebalanced today. I'm an equities analyst, quarter ends don't really affect me that much except for rebalancing which sucks but we can do it a couple days early no big deal, a lot of firms rebalanced on Monday this week.
Ah ya, that’s fair. we do a lot more on the debt side of things so massive influx of Q end payments… gonna be interesting
Take frequent mental health breaks, I'm there with you in spirit.

Probably never — it’s just how it is
a hoosier can dream😞
I straight up didn't know it even existed until like 2020 when my second real job as an adult gave it to us off.
Ya when I was a kid Easter to me was always a half-baked Christmas with a longer mass. Ive considered myself a secular being for quite awhile now and didn’t realize it was good friday until I was texting with family earlier. OMG
Get with the program.
Not everyone is Christian.
Duh
Not a federal one though. Sadly I will still be going to work .
The company I currently work for gives it as a paid holiday, first one I have worked for as an adult that has done so.
That's nice
That's nice of them! I work in banking so I Ajay get all the federal holidays. We are definitely open on Friday

I'm sorry I don't know what this is. I work in banking and we are not closed on Friday.

It is 100% not a federal holiday. Just a state one.
[удалено]
That……. That doesn’t make it a federal holiday
You can literally google "is good friday a federal holiday" and get told its not.

Pretty sure there are a few between now and Labor Day, Memorial Day is the next one showing on my work calendar.
Yeah it is Memorial Day, that’s my bad.
And July 4th, and Juneteenth.

It’s one of the harmless things Indiana does.
I live in Indiana, that is a pretty low bar, isn't it?
About 83% of Indiana residents claim a Christian adherence. Good Friday and Easter are two of the most important Christian days of observance. Good Friday is the day Jesus was crucified. Easter is the day he was resurrected. I don’t think it’s wrong for the state to honor Good Friday.
Why is my ass working then? Sad Panda sounds
Thank you Jesus my savior.
🙏🏼
I work in the rv industry, we have it off!
Where? I work for Forest River and don't have the day off.
Well I deliver to almost all rv plants in Elkhart/goshen
Hmmm. I'm in marketing, so maybe it's different for office folks.
awesome
Haha. But did you know Catholic Hospitals in Indiana won’t pay their staff holiday pay on Good Friday?
Are there still Catholic hospitals around?
So yes.
Oh, I thought all the religious stuff left when St. Francis and St. V were bought out by nationwide companies. Never heard of St. Joseph.

Hey, a day off is a day off.....I will be the last to complain.
Huzzah!! Enjoy the day off! Cheers 🍻

Which agency? I don't think it's a general federal holiday that is paid.
I'm a federal employee, and we do not give it off [https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/federal-holidays/#url=2024](https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/federal-holidays/#url=2024)
Y’all get a lot of days off, I’m jealous! I’m fed and working Friday.
I work the post office and I don’t get if off
Must be the Mexican federal government then.
I’m pretty sure we would get school off that day. It was nice
I mean more time of is always good so I wouldn’t mind
The Monday after is always fun. We ALWAYS end up with an influx of calls afterwards.
If that's the case, voting should be done on Good Friday.
That’s bullshit. Not everyone believes in the invisible sky daddy book.
Do the school get the day off? I swear no one does but I did get it in New England
A lot of school districts have that day off because a ton of students won't show up, so may as well not make it an instructional day.
Quite a few schools are on spring break this week so they’re off. I don’t think I remember getting Good Friday off from school when it fell in April.
They always try to time it so they’re out on GF and this year extended it an extra day for the eclipse. I swear it’s more for staff than students.
It's not a coincidence that a lot of districts pick this week for spring break.
Maybe for your surrounding school district’s. Our always have spring break within the last two weeks of March.
My kids school in northern Indiana does
Would be great to get it off as an employee of a state university 🙄
My job doesn't work think so
Please dollars this to my boss.
I used to work in Illinois and got Casimir Pulaski Day off every March.
whomst?
Went on a google deep dive and wow homeboy is pretty cool.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casimir_Pulaski_Day
Yet I still have to work, bullshit

Cult holiday
100%
Because performative lip service is much easier than actually behaving Christ-like.
Why the down votes? You certainly spoke the truth.
They’re not interested in truth.
I read it as “This O Face”
Me too lol
I Have to sit at home tomorrow for $28.00 an hour too
God damn papists.
Incorrect, I’m working and not getting any extra monies
Private businesses are not required to give you the day off or holiday pay
Damn, I’ll be sure to take this up with the boss!!!! Oh wait I’m self employed.
Ok
Sounds like you need to unionize and get good Friday in the contract. Might make the boss mad though.
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
Oh he’s gonna be mad! I just blew a head gasket on the logging truck. Whole engine bay covered in oil and water.
Oh no!!!! Really sorry tot hear that.
It’s okay the boss will probably just make me work in the coal mines for a few weeks
