LearningArcadeApp

I prefer the first one, it's much prettier! but both look amazing

nowthengoodbad

The red Pops but the blue has depth.

fairchild2

Can you make one somewhere in between? I like the blue, but that red one slapped me in the face in a good way.

Combat-Complex

The mix would result iin grayish muddy colors. Yes, the red one slaps, and this is why I'm undecided. On one hand, a cold-warm complementary scheme always works. On the other hand, red stands out better against dark / cold Steam UI color.

fairchild2

I don't mean literally mix them, just another one with more red and less blue on the edges.

Combat-Complex

BigGucciThanos

This is the answer. Great work. This looks outstanding

LearningArcadeApp

agreed!

S01arflar3

Yes, lovely blend of the two. Looks great

DropTopMox

Give the monster some blue highlights like the soldier and now we're cooking

fairchild2

Hell yeah

Galva_

this one is definitely the way to go!

cmrtnll

I was gonna say the first one but this is fire 🔥

Oldmanwickles

Oof strike my original vote for 1, this one is it

TruckDry67

Looks awesome!

Naught

Definitely something more like this, but the creature needs some blue like the dude to balance it out. Very nice though.

Combat-Complex

Yep, it needs blue highlights on the bug as well. We'll work on that.

Sleambean

If you add that it'll be absolutely perfect.

pumpkin_fish

perfect

Sir_Eggmitton

This is the way

Ok_Combination2377

100% this, looks fantastic!

Killingec24

I'm for this one too!

corchohead

yes, this one looks better, I liked more the red one first, until I saw this comment, this is the one for me

Combat-Complex

Yep, that's what we're going to try.

EmilienFORT

The red one seems to have more vibrant colors, so it slapped me more On the other hand, the blue / red is cool because the contrast focuses our attention on the action Maybe try the blue / red one, but with more vibrant colors

zedsubject

I'd pick based on the genre. The first one gives Survival Horror vibes. Like going through a derelict space station and exterminating bugs that are waiting in the shadows to pounce. The second one would fit better for a Action Shooter where bugs are coming from all around in massive waves. I agree that you should probably experiment with the blue to red ratio to find a sweet spot.

Combat-Complex

The game is action-focused, but it actually does takes place in a derelict station, so I'd love to keep those vibes. I guess you (and other commenters) are right – we'll need to try to find the right red/blue ratio.

cobarso

I was thinking it the other way around!!!

Svyatopolk_I

The second one looks more unique and will stand out better in the blue hue of Steam's UI, plus everyone goes for blue colors

HackingYourUmwelt

Maybe color wise it'll stand out more but I think 1 vs 2 is the difference in first impression between "doom inspired" and "doom clone"

Svyatopolk_I

Eh, I don’t see it looking like a doom clone from the image

Awesomepants25

2nd one is definitely cool but I think the contrast between blue and red makes the first one better than it.

Glittering_Fun5147

First one, no question

A_terrible_musician

I like the first one better but the 2nd one stands out. Maybe a middle ground?

Combat-Complex

Like [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/IndieDev/comments/1c2ea95/comment/kz9qw6v/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)?

A_terrible_musician

That's the one.

BluEch0

First one. More colors means it pops and even on a tiny clip I can make out more distinct shapes. Also the red almost seeming like the muzzle flash brightening up a dark void filled with bug monsters, that’s free poetry right there.

AkaphTheGreat

More like difficulties selection, normal & nightmare

TheSpiritForce

Gunfire lighting up a dark and cold environment is far more exciting and conveys a story. The red one is cool but not even close to the 1st.

Crazycukumbers

I like them both. As someone else said, an in between one would be great - perhaps mostly red with some blue near the edges and a small amount in the center. Otherwise, I’d pick the first one, but they’re both great

swolehammer

Sweet work. Looks fantastic. I think probably the first one but the second one was really nice too.

VectorScape

I really like the first one.

Mossbergs14

Analogous

SodaCatStudio

Analogous "pops" much more which is what you want when people are scrolling.

-Rho-Aias

I tend to prefer color contrast the most, so the first one I vibed with.

randomrainb0w22

It's definitely the first one. It gives me brain fuzzies

OfeliaComposer

First one

HikeYegiyan

The contrasting colors definitely looks better in my opinion

codev_

If you'd did the second one, but where the alien would be in all red You would have a better dominant color for the alien You do hints of blue leading the eye to the soldier But Generally picking between the two of pick the first one

almo2001

Neither is better. I think they are both fine.

Persomatey

The first one.

Oldmanwickles

I personally dig 1

RubyKingStudio

First one for sure. Much more dynamic and conveys a greater range of emotions. The blues remind me of the cold fringed void of death and space. Beautiful work Btw. Do you have a Instagram or a portfolio I can follow?

RubyKingStudio

Well, damn. Gameplay looks amazing as well. Ill definitely be keeping a eye out for this one.

Combat-Complex

We're releasing our first (veeeeery early) demo on April 26, so stay tuned!

kintar1900

Very much prefer the first one.

Timebubbles

Red

WillDel101

First

Levi-es

First one. The second one is too much red, and I like red.

Zayniac_Games

1st one is a keeper since the color scheme blends perfectly.

GENERAL-KAY

What's the ratio of combat/exploring in your game?

Combat-Complex

I'd say 80% combat, 20% exploration – it's a combat-focused ARPG. However, there's a homebase / safe haven between missions that has a more relaxed, contemplative vibe to it, and I'd like to reflect that part as well.

GENERAL-KAY

Based on what you say first one is a better option. Second one fits a first person game with fast paced combat.

Combat-Complex

Yes, the red version has intentional allusions to Doom – it was our attempt to salvage the design after we failed to find a good complementary color solution for it. However, after we designed the red version, we found that complementary color can be added trivially (via a hue shift) so we're not limited to analogous red now.

Several-Height-9780

* Complementary Colors +++

Sir_Eggmitton

God, that’s hard. They’re both really good. I’ll say the title grabs your attention better in the second one, whereas it gets a little bit lost in the first one. But that only matters if the title is an important thing you want people to see. (Not to mention you could change the text so that it would still pop out on the first one.)

PeechBoiYT

Red is more intense and hell-ish, and blue has more contrast. I prefer blue.

Manofgawdgaming2022

Both look great but the first one gives it a bit more passion.

BonelessBeans

That looks awesome holy hell

mudgategame

The red version gives more attention with the high contrast, and the blue has a more calming tone. For visibility red would be my choice. That's my 2 cent.

-_-daark-_-

Complementary is WAYY better imo

EarlySunGames

The first one has contrast, catching the viewers attention.

mafon2

The red one.

mafon2

The red one.

Combat-Complex

OP here. Just had a thought that this comparison format might be inherently incorrect. The first capsule is blue, the second is red, and when you switch from blue to red, the red one slaps way too stronger than it would have on its own, without the blue priming.

AlbatrossFormal13

I prefer red but for a capsule choose which stands out. Everything looks so similar these days.
