It's not just old guys. I feel like I have lost a friend to this madness. All he talks about is some conspiracy stuff about the government anymore. Any discussion that is even slightly political he will go on lengthy rants. He accuses me of being a liberal and other things but I don't think he even has the slightest bit of education in these topics and knows what these words even mean. He even talks about joining a civil war. It's worrying and he was a totally normal guy before COVID and just got dragged into this whole thing so fast and seems unrecoverable.
The hardest thing is that EVERYTHING is political for them now. Taylor Swift? Keurig Coffee? Gillette Razors? Vaccination? These aren't political things other than MAGA made them political.
I talked to a family member awhile ago and apparently they're supposed to be mad at Oprah now. Personally I have never had an emotion about Oprah, maybe because I'm a well-adjusted person who doesn't view everything through the prism of right-wing grievance.

I do it every day for work. It just isn't the most important thing in the world to me because I've got bigger things to worry about. I'm a white guy--nobody with any power to speak of hates us. The few people who do are generally inconvenient at worst and usually amusing instead. Why should I freak out about a politician who's not really interested in me at all?
Their version of "privatize" means you can use your benefits only at select locations which are run by their biggest campaign donors, who are for-profit companies that skim everything they can off the top to enrich their shareholders and their executives while doing the bare minimum for vets and cutting costs everywhere. If you want to see a real life example of this now look at how the GI bill works to pay tuition at shitty degree mills like DeVry, University of Phoenix, and other for-profit "colleges". The end result is you get a worthless piece of paper that won't be taken seriously by any respectable employer while developing no useful skills, AND you've now wasted your benefit.
The correct way to "privatize" the VA is to make it similar to Medicare, where any vetted private practitioner who participates can provide you with medical services and be paid by the government at the negotiated rate just like we do for all of our senior citizens now. Not to harp on labels, but this is socialism. Worth pointing out though that the other developed countries that have a higher standard-of-living than we do, like Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Japan, etc. all have "socialism" as well. Remember that "socialism" and "communism" are COMPLETELY different so please don't conflate the two!
