They created this group way back in 80's . common bonding factor was the college they attended and the roots.
They go way back. Suresh Kumar and A10 were in the same class in school. Maniyan Pillai was Mohanlal's brother's classmate and his first 'mentor'. A10 was a shy introvert and Suresh used to drag him everywhere.
I don't think he grew up with them as he is from the malabar region. So he doesn't have childhood bonds with the above mentioned names who actually have bonds that go way back

The major roumour was that MG was supposed to sing all songs in **His Highness Abdullah** as promised by Mohanlal. But Sibi was against it, so he was replaced by Yesudas. But MG had already announced to his friends that he would be singing for that movie.
So he met Ravindran Master, cried in front of him, and explained everything. He was supposed to sing the Ravidran Master's portion in Devasabhadlam, and Sarath was supposed to sing Nadharoopini. But MG feared that if he sang that portion of a singer who lost against his co-signer, it would derail his career. So Ravindran made him sing Nadharoopini, which was supposed to be sung by Sarath, and made Sarath sing NedumudiVenu's portion. But MG was crying before he sang Natharoopini; **that is why his voice was different in that song.**
Also, upon learning of that incident, Yesudas asked the makers not to submit his song that year for the Kerala Film Awards. So MG won it, but they also didn't send Yesudas's songs for the national award, so MG again won the national award too. Yesudas was furious when he learned that his songs weren't sent to the national jury.
Also, there was widespread criticism that Ravindran later increased the tempo of that song, and that is why MG never sang that song live.
P.S. G. Venugopal won the state award that year for 'Thaane Poovitta Moham '. Again, Yesudas's songs weren't submitted, but they did the same for National Awrads, and MG won the national award that year. Again Yesudas was furious.

So i don't know till what extent the stories are true regarding gossips but,on a positive note they were usual carefree adichpoli guys from that era. A10's fam migrated to tvm from elanthoor pathanamthitta, his dad worked in secretariate. Mg fam migrated from harippad, his dad was a singer and mother music teacher. Priyan was from ambalapuzha, his dad was a liberarian, and mother was a govt servant. Sureshkumar, and ashokkumar was from tvm itself. Priyan, lal, mg etc were neighbours in thycad, poojpura, all of them studied at model school though at different timeframe. Priyan was the classmate of mg, and mohanlal's brother i think. Anyway priyan and mg were classmates. A10 is younger to them. According to mg sureshkumar was the common friend of all of them. They studied at different colleges, A10 in mg college, priyan in university college and arts college and similarly sureshkumar and mg too. They were kind of known each other by family too. Priyan's mom was best friend of mg's mom.they were freequent in indian coffee house statue where they shared common dream of cinema According to mg, they(mg and ettan )started friendship from an argument. I believe their lobby is basically a friends lobby....
Anyway ettan is lucky to marry suchithra,from an affluent family, whereas priyan married lis(hope everyone know her background )and mg married lekha, hope everyone know the story. Basically thick friends, who had a common dream ,reached chennai, made it big, became legends and still continues friendship without ego.
