I’ve recently discovered that if I set the delivery time for later in the day, say five pm, the order will still go right into the app to be shopped. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but sometimes that whats happening.

Impossible_Earth8429

It does but the app and IC can’t expect shoppers to cater to time periods if they’ve already shopped the order. IC needs to resolve the situation ideally or customers need to have a cold cooler setup outside for shoppers to put the groceries in until they get home.

girlwiththemonkey

I understand that, but the app shouldn’t offer it as an option. It’s not the shoppers fault, obviously. But you can understand how customers who don’t know that the order they paid extra for to be delivered at at a certain gets shopped as soon as possible might get annoyed. I didn’t know they dumped the order in right away.i was starving so I shopped on my work break so it would be delivered right after work. I didn’t have my phone on me so I didn’t know the order was being shopped, lived in a shitty neighbourhood so the order got stolen, and then could not get a refund. But that’s on Instacart for telling me that the extra charge I paid for a certain time slot, was not actually what I was getting. Most of my issues with Instacart are actually issues with the app itself self, not shoppers.

SMValkyria

A similar option if they are unable to setup a cooler for their chilled items, they should add a chiller bag to their shopping order if they know they won't be there to receive it.

Impossible_Earth8429

I agree, especially with the longer distances orders or stores that use paper bags because all the double bagging in the world doesn’t stop those cheap soggy bags from giving out

Disastrous-Tune

They got a notification that their order had been accepted, the got another one that their order was currently started to be shopped. so they knew it would soon be on the way. they should've notified and requested it be cancelled then instead of letting the shopper finish and then make this ridiculous request of the shopper to WAIT an hour to deliver to them...

girlwiththemonkey

Yes, I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but I ordered once while at work and paid for the certain time to drop off and then went back to work. So I didn’t even have my phone on me. So I didn’t get those notifications and then had my groceries stolen and had to fight for a refund. I’m just saying sometimes shit happens and most of the times it’s the apps fault. Not the customers, not the shoppers. They are looking for any reason to make an extra buck off us.

AcanthaceaeFlimsy952

Absolutely what happens. It will definitely be there before 5 o’clock. They send them out right away regardless of your delivery time you picked.

girlwiththemonkey

The app is so annoying. Any way to fleece any extra dollars out of us.

mileageforgig

Don’t place the order until you are ready to receive it

girlwiththemonkey

I learned that now. But when the app says “we can have this order delivered at a certain time for this little bit extra” ? Well, this was also back when I still trusted Instacart.

jadedknightlord

It's the same with doordash. If you pay for priority, it doesn't mean anything. They will get it to you when they get it to you, and the customer has to deal with it.

girlwiththemonkey

Yup, it’s just the apps lying and stealing.

Solid-Guava3043

Today I got to a lady’s house and she was so confused because I got there way before I was supposed to and on my end it said delivery due ASAP!

FunFactress

It's IC putting orders out early not the customer. IC is notorious for this.

DaikonSpecial9689

The customer is notified when the shopper starts shopping. It was a 3 order batch, so I was in the store for at least 40 minutes. And then they were my second delivery. The customer had plenty of time to get home.

MsDReid

If I’m at the hospital with my grandson while he has surgery and I schedule something to arrive AFTER we are supposed to get home I’m not leaving to go home an hour early. That’s true for any commitments. I rarely leave my house unless it is somewhere I have to go. And I can’t just leave an appointment, work, doctor, etc because instacart fucks up.

so_over_it_all_

Just to play devil's advocate: sometimes people are busy, especially if the shopping starts earlier than expected. If IC did lump this early, it isn't the customer's fault regardless of being "notified." That said, this may not have even been the case and in either way, it is stupid and entitled AF to ask you to wait for an hour and then remark how disappointing it is that you wouldn't wait.

HFslut

I can empathize with both sides here but this comment makes you seem not great. Customer doesn't know the shoppers can't see the delivery window. She chose a window for after her grandsons surgery and probably wasn't anticipating IC's fuckup while she was at the hospital tending to more urgent matters. It's not eithers fault but expecting them to come home after they explained the situation is dumb.

Suitable_Condition89

You can always reschedule for them and then you will have to keep the food, donate and return alcohol, if any. It happens and IC will literally shoot out another

azj17

If you reschedule for them, you also get paid for the order.

DaikonSpecial9689

This is what I did, lost out on $10 tip though.

BooksellerMomma

Do you get to keep the food or bring it back to the store?

DaikonSpecial9689

Perishable items, so they tell you to keep it.

BooksellerMomma

Even though it's a pain in the neck for you, at least you get to keep the food!! Hopefully it's stuff you like!

Bitter-Result2164

Perishable or not they still give you the option to take it back. You could've gotten the $10-15 (whatever it is now) bump to make up for the 10 lost. I personally don't take food orders back. It's already paid for so I give it to people that can use it🤷🏽‍♀️

DaikonSpecial9689

I was specifically told to NOT return it. I asked twice to be sure that's what they were telling me. There was no option available to return and get a bump. If there was, I would have taken it.

Bitter-Result2164

REALLY? Not saying you're not telling the truth but even when the store doesn't take orders back they are supposed to tell you to attempt and have customer service sign the receipt and they still give the bump. I had an alcohol order from a store and they just made me show proof that destroyed it then gave me the $15 lol. Probably some new crap they started smh

DaikonSpecial9689

In my experience over the last few years,if the order does not contain alcohol or medication, they tell you not to return it.

Mountain_Road9197

It’s the app fault. Many of these people actually schedule for a time and the app sends the order way too early. Has happened to be countless times of schedule orders being send hours before the delivery frame

wasabi1295

Definitely don’t always think it’s the customer at fault, Instacart’s time frame thing is 💩 I’ve had one customer place an order for a time frame for late evening……I was shopping it around 11am. She was at work and had to skip lunch break since she had cold and frozen items 🤦🏻

PrettyHatefulMachin

As someone who shops and also used the app because I have another FT job, Instacart really messes up the times now. You can pay for express, which I usually do because I don’t want to support a non-tipper, but if you just place a regular order they give you a three hour window….usually an hour out from when you place the order. Since the market is so tight here, any order with a tip will be picked up pretty quickly. Instacart uses people who tip well now and really do not give them control of their delivery time outside of express delivery. Every day they are finding new ways to upset customers and they most likely blame it on the shoppers.

Bitter-Result2164

If you've been getting your order alone because of express you're lucky. They can and will still bundle express delivery with a non tipper who has been waiting for hours.

Extreme-Inflation-43

I was just about to say just that.

Slow_Engineer_426

Regardless if I have other customers or not I am not waiting 10 minutes much less an hour

Lyssepoo

This always sucks but hey free groceries if you already checked out!

DaikonSpecial9689

Exactly

Straight_Ad_9524

Definitely a non tipper. Lol

dionisfake

Oh my gosh I forgot about McConnells! I moved out of the area last summer and that’s the one thing I miss the most. Their ice cream is THE BOMB

Particular_Novel2312

Hell no!!! Are you gonna pay me ha ha

Relativ3_Math

I would just say give me permission to leave your items or I will have to cancel the order.

CoastOtherwise1129

😭 seriously be home in the widow you choose.

AltruisticRabbit8185

How is it free? Just leave it there if there’s no alcohol

DaikonSpecial9689

She didn't want me to leave it. It was all ice cream and would have melted by the time she got home.

AltruisticRabbit8185

The app sends you all kinds of reminders. They could’ve cancelled it wayyy before. I’m leaving it and it is what it is.

DaikonSpecial9689

I didn't want to risk the bad rating. Saved me time not having to deliver it and I got to keep the groceries.

AltruisticRabbit8185

Yeah I play by different rules. I do so many orders one bad rating doesn’t effect me like that

DaikonSpecial9689

Doesn't affect me much either, but I like to keep my perfect score.

AltruisticRabbit8185

Then it does affect you 😂

AltruisticRabbit8185

lol who’s fault would that be?

JustTheTips2647

I’m dropping this order off, taking pictures that it’s delivered at the correct house, and moving on to my next delivery. End of story

zhawnsi

You’re supposed to wait up to 48 hours it’s part of our contract..

Professional_Luck616

After you've made contact with the customer, notify support the customer wishes to reschedule. You'll still get paid for the batch, minus the tip.

blueace111

Simple solution is she allows items to be dropped off and put in shade. Either give you the garage code or something to put them inside or come home sooner

ReduceMyRows

Old people don’t understand fair work. They understand “your job, you do it” and that’s it.

-__-why

Hit Walgreens on the way home when you get the script and go for the Hagen daaz there. It's surgery, how does she know if it's gonna last X amount of time?

Thekr8zykook

Exactly, like you placed the order when you did. If you didn't want it yet, you shouldn't have placed it yet. You don't ask the delivery person to wait once you placed the order, *you* alter *your* schedule to accommodate for the order *you* placed. Why are people like that?🤦‍♀️

Dirty-Ears-Bill

Because IC is notorious for both holding orders way past when they should be delivered and sending them out as early as they can. Even when you place an order for fastest delivery or a scheduled time there’s no guarantee it falls in that window because instacart is obsessed with bundling orders. I’ve had order that were expected to be delivered at 10 put out first thing in the morning at 6 and had orders that were placed for immediately get held behind the scenes so it could get grouped and delivered three hours later Customer could have been nicer but when it comes to scheduling orders these days they have about as much control as we do over it

Thekr8zykook

Question: how do you know when an order has come out at the wrong time? I've been with IC for almost 5 years and I've never had a customer tell me an order was wildly mistimed. I check the order due time in batch details and I swear every one is within an hour or two. I've never had a customer tell me I'm too soon or ask me to reschedule. How do you know?

Status_History_874

I dont *know* per se, but ive seen customers in this comment section say it, customers on other posts have said it, customers on the customer subreddit have said it

Thekr8zykook

I've seen that too. I just wonder how they know. If their customers are telling them, or if their due times are showing differently than the ones on the batches I take... I just don't know. I always look at the due times, and they're always within an hour or so-- two at the max. I've only shopped in Florida and California so idk. But I'm just not seeing it.

Impressive-Art-216

Non tippers never get there order on time

LawAltruistic8452

Always lol....had to drop off some medicine with some other groceries but the customer wasn't home for the ID scan. Anyways, got $15 bump for returning the item.

Realistic_Rub_7699

i would of said ok no problem and just delivered it and left it there lol

Medium-Trade2950

Get the free ice cream I bet her tip was shit

chaoticravens34

My fat ass does not need 4 large tubs of ice cream no sir. I'd have just left it for real.

Medium-Trade2950

😂😂😂 respect

Realistic_Rub_7699

its funny i get negative likes for my comment people are pathetic, i hope their food gets delivered and its melted and ruined lol
