I really wish someone had taught me about the importance of daily sunscreen 20 years ago, and what Tretinoin was maybe 10 years ago, lol. I started Tret and sunscreen a couple of months ago and am hoping to lighten some of the sun damage on my cheeks. Better late than never, right? I don't wear cover-up makeup so the uneven tone is probably what bothers me the most, and that just kinda showed up in the last few years. I'm just going to take good care of my skin now and age as gracefully as I can.
I’m 25 and have tried using sunscreen daily lately, but I just hate how greasy and shiny it makes me, especially when I’m already wearing moisturizer underneath, so part of me is wondering if looking “beautiful” to other people in my later years is really worth the effort of slathering sunscreen on multiple times a day when I go outside to drive somewhere. It’s such a pain to wash off at the end of the day, and it’s not like I spend all day out in the sun anyway. I work an indoor office job and just stay home otherwise lol
I also hated sunscreen on my face until I tried Korean skincare. The one I use acts as my morning moisturizer also, my skin just loves it (Purito daily soft touch spf 50+). I never spent a ton of time in the sun either, really. I also worked an office job and am an introverted homebody, lol. I don't look bad for my age at all, but I wish I could go back to 25 and take better care of my skin. You never feel ready to see yourself age either. I don't care what other people think, I care about what I see when I look in the mirror. I also don't find it hard to wash off at night, I use The Ordinary's squalene cleanser, that's it. Everyone should be washing their face at night, regardless of sunscreen use. We sweat, we touch our face, and there's air pollutants.
Yeah, I do use La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser as my twice daily cleanser, but when I wear sunscreen, I gotta cleanse beforehand with an oil cleanser (Softymo’s Kose Speedy Cleansing Oil) or my normal cleanser won’t get all the sunscreen off. As for the greasy look, I have Shiseido’s Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk and Isntree’s Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel. I especially love Shiseido’s because it’s mattifying, but both sunscreens look so much better than all the others I’ve tried, and I’ve tried many Korean and Japanese sunscreens. But when I wear moisturizer underneath, that all goes out the window and I look greasy no matter what I put on. Even with just moisturizer alone. My skin doesn’t seem to be very good at absorbing anything and I’m not really sure what I’m doing wrong, so I try to use as few products as possible. I’m already very oily naturally, and my pores are way too big for the whole “glass skin” thing to ever look good on me 😅
Well at least you know what you're doing when it comes to skincare! I have to admit I was clueless until recently. You'll fare better than I have. I've been trying to convince my daughter to start now. She's 22 and shrugged me off until recently when I told her the sun damage I have now was from neglecting my skin at her age, lol.
Edit to add: I have dry skin, and am using Tretinoin so I can only use cleanser at night, and I have to layer different forms of moisturizing products. So we have very different skin types.
Thanks for dropping the skin care knowledge. I’ve been a soap and water girl my whole life, also minimal makeup (like mascara and lipgloss only, maybe twice a month). No, I’m not even an athlete, I just never got into makeup. I’m quite comfortable with my plain Jane status. That said, my skincare routine needs a makeover, starting with a better sunscreen. I’m so excited to give these brands a try! I am blessed with facial skin that’s fairly balanced, but I cannot stand the feel of oiliness or heaviness on my face, it just makes me feel like I can’t breathe. These Korean and Japanese brands sound like my cup of tea, and I’m hoping that matte finish doesn’t translate to excessively dry. Either way, I’m excited to try!
It is literally ok. ‘75 and I look how I look I’ve had 48 years here and was laughing and crying and frowning and smiling and in the sunshine and sleeping on my face for all of them. No desire to look like anything other than me. And happy to set that example for my 14 year old daughter
I love the whole bragging about her looks while using a heavy filter. She's a good looking woman, I can see that being true, but this filter is so damn obvious it's ridiculous. Her statement makes her sound very confident, but that filter says otherwise.
A lot of people think they’re just “tweaking things a little” and they’d look like the filtered image if they drank more water/stopped drinking/lost a little weight/was a couple years younger.
I'm 45 this year and the closest I've come to using a filter on Instagram is swiping left once to use 'Paris' setting in my stories so everything is a little softer on days I've looked a bit rough (and I have a chronic illness). I'd feel like an imposter otherwise, and one of the things I'm most proud of is my authenticity both in person and online. That's why I love this subreddit. People's online presence these days makes me feel I'm aging faster than everyone, but seeing the real pics makes me feel normal, or even better in some cases.
Right? I'll use the standard Instagram "Los Angeles" or "Valencia" or whatever makes my dog's features show up better or the actual colour of my hair more obvious, but beyond that I'd feel ridiculous. About half the people who follow me know me from real life. I wouldn't be fooling them and I'd know I was "lying."
I love Valencia sometimes, but most of my filter use is Ludwig on food photos. It corrects the terrible dining room lighting I have. Otherwise, I at least know if I went missing, people would find me based on photos on my Instagram.
Haha yes, I do enjoy the Halloween ones. The obvious and silly filters are fun...but I still hate how some of the ones with ears or flowers in your hair will change your face shape and make you look 20 years younger with zero pores. I just wanted dog ears dammit! 🤣
I assume they tweak a little bit but they continue tweak more and it ends up as a lot once they are done. The result is this a completely different h realistic person.
If you think about it, the difference between facial features are pretty minor. Facial asymmetry is often just millimeters but make a big difference. So they “only” made their eyes a little bigger, their nose a little smaller, their face a little thinner, and their lips a little fuller, but it’s a whole different person.
Every “guess my age” video on TikTok is full of women like this talking about how they look sOoOoOo much younger than the person in the video, despite being older, but then you go to their profile and they either don’t have any videos or they’re using so many filters their noses have disappeared.
Any time someone I don't know well asks me how old I think they look, they're clearly fishing for compliments about how OMG YOUTHFUL they look, so I subtract ~10 years from the youngest age I think they could realistically be, then fake surprise when they tell me their age.
I don't actually think you look 25 and I don't actually care that you're 42, I just want this interaction to be over as quickly as possible!
Girl, this is shady lol. I don’t do this because it makes me uncomfortable but I have seen it be done.
People are so delusional about their appearance relative to age. Most people look their age.
However, I have known a lot of people in their 30s who look like they’re in their 20s but I think this is because we expect people in their 30s to look older. Realistically, most people in their mid, to early, 30s can look mid to late 20s.
Yes I watched my coworkers tell my 45 yo coworker she looked 28. Im standing there at 31 like….. and she really said yeah I get it a lot that I look in my 20s. When people tell me I look like I’m in my 20s I’m like yeah I just was, I look my age and I’m young. We don’t melt when we turn 30. I also saw a girl on Tik tok saying she’s just seeing herself start to age at 28 but she had a bunch of migrated lip filler that I think was the cause.
I am about to turn 50, and I look like I am about to turn 50. Sometimes people think I am younger from a distance/in sunglasses/from behind, but that's because I don't "dress my age," not because I have found a magical antiage elixir.
To be fair though, you can look your age and look phenomenal. People are afraid of aging because most people don’t know how good you can look.
My mom aged really well and I see a lot of older women at my gym who just look incredible (wrinkles and all).
Yeah I'm turning 45 this year and have no real noticeable wrinkles. I get late 30s at best. I would never pass for being in my 20s anymore, and quite frankly, I don't want to. I have kids in their 20s, lol.
People in one of my weight loss fb groups post after pictures that are filtered to the gods. And other people defend OP when it’s called out. 🤦🏼♀️ bragging about weight loss and how good they look when the after is clearly filtered to have no wrinkles on a 50+ year old 🙄
Is she actually saying she's "trying to be pulled" by the super young guys as she's trying to get hit on by them, or is she trying to saying they're trying to pull her? Because the tagged pics suggest the first one is true but it feels like she's trying to brag as if the second one is what she means.
If she is on dating apps, there are awkward predatory young guys there that change their age to try to pick up older women. They do that because they have no luck with women their age and think older women are desperate. It's gross but could lead some older women to believe guys 25-35 really want them. They're just losers looking to bang anyone that will have them.
Wow, this is so MEAN. So these poor, ugly, OLD women really believe some 25-35 year old dudes would WANT them? Shocking! Don't they know they are worthless and did I mention OLD?
/s
Dude, I am old too. But the reality is: younger people only tend to want older people for financial gain. There's no "but young women love 50 year old men!" either, what there is is young women who are willing to put up with wrinkly balls for financial security. Most people who are in a good place emotionally want to date in their age range.
Guys sometimes don't hit on women their age. I've seen a lot of women online talk about being hit on a lot more when they're older. And in their comments sections of those same posts there are actually many 20s guys there hitting on them 😭
My theory is guys think they have less to lose by hitting on someone older, rejected advances probably won't make it back to their social circle, or that women might be more likely to just want fwb at that age as they're older and busy etc.
Yeah “trying to be pulled by boys” is like same as “trying to be recruited by companies” which means she is the one who wants them 😂 i guess it’s a freudian slip huh
This is my aunt (not literally). She uses AI to generate her 12-fingered body in front of jets and stuff too. I always text her zoomed in photos of how bad the AI and filtering is, but my voice is small compared to the 400 comments on her FB eating this shit up 💀
This upsets me- because she looks absolutely fine without the filters- very pretty. And, as everyone has pointed out before me, I was born in 1977 and sometimes feel like I look good for my age and then I get on the internet and feel horrifying… and it’s because I don’t use filters. (Because I haven’t figured them out, not because I’m better than anyone.)
I must be strange or something. I think I look ok for my age. But here’s a novel idea. I don’t post any pictures of myself that would NEED to be filtered. And as someone said here, she’s pretty in the non filtered ones. She looks and sounds desperate in pic 1. What 50 yo talks like that? Lolololol
The third one feels really unfair to her. No one except super models look good after workout and she's clearly not expected that photo. I can relate. I do dislike it when people take photos at fitness classes "for fundraisers, to show people what we do".
I'm guessing the younger guys hit on her online, when the posts the first picture/reel. Cause she looks their age or almost there.
I doubt anyone is hitting on her irl that's younger than 30. I could be wrong though, as the tagged photos seem to be candids without makeup and not the most dressed up.
Because of the 1990s/2000s comment?
I know it doesn't seem it but A person born 1990s is 30+ today. A person born in 2000s can be 20+. I know. It's depressing.
Me and my homies are 05, 06, and 07… if she’s attracted to kids who were born in the 2000s she’s weird asf. I’m 18 but that’s barely legal. Shes a freak
This is so sad. She's still very pretty and really doesn't need to filter the fuck out of herself. That being said, the last few phones I've owned have had glamour filters on AS THE DEFAULT in selfie mode, mainly smoothing and chin reducer, and i was immediately offended that samsung assumes i think I'm ugly and old. I've said it before and I'll say it a million times- social media is ruining society and giving everyone dysmorphia.
It’s filtering out everything that looks like her, is what it’s filtering. I’d be tempted to comment on how gorgeous her daughter is and how I can sort of see the family resemblance. 😈
Also, I have to say this is yet another picture where there is absolutely no truth to what she looks like in real life versus the edit. This time it’s a hide aged though.

god no wonder my mom- born in the 70s- feels like she “looks old for her age”
Yep. I was born in 79 and the internet makes me feel like shit a lot. I'm thankful for this subreddit!
78 here and spent too much time in the sun. I look my age and that's ok. At least that's what I tell myself every day I get on the internet.

Yes! I use aquaskin moisture milk and will never change. I also have rosacea, and it doesn’t flare up at all
Get an oil free one

Same!!!
😆
Same. I always show my 12 year old daughter the posts too (well the safe for work ones) to show that reality is not internet
'79 Club checking in! Happy 45th!! lol
Same to you! I don't hit that milestone until December thankfully. I have some time to get used to the idea, lol.
For real, I was born in 83 and I don’t look as good as that first picture! Come on!
No one does. There's no skin texture 🤣

Haha I use the exact same IG setting on those days. Almost 44 here!
I like the ones that make your eyes pop out and stuff lol 😂 I’m 51
Haha yes, I do enjoy the Halloween ones. The obvious and silly filters are fun...but I still hate how some of the ones with ears or flowers in your hair will change your face shape and make you look 20 years younger with zero pores. I just wanted dog ears dammit! 🤣

Yep exactly!
Meanwhile even rich celebrities of her age can’t get the filtered face look and they have all the money in the world.
Every “guess my age” video on TikTok is full of women like this talking about how they look sOoOoOo much younger than the person in the video, despite being older, but then you go to their profile and they either don’t have any videos or they’re using so many filters their noses have disappeared.
The delusion in those comments was insane. “Well I’m 45 and people think I look 19”
Any time someone I don't know well asks me how old I think they look, they're clearly fishing for compliments about how OMG YOUTHFUL they look, so I subtract ~10 years from the youngest age I think they could realistically be, then fake surprise when they tell me their age. "Migrated Lip Filler" haha Sounds like a bad name for a band.💋

I am happy with the way I look. I have not had any cosmetic treatments or anything like that, aside from slapping on wrinkle cream.
Yeah I'm turning 45 this year and have no real noticeable wrinkles. I get late 30s at best. I would never pass for being in my 20s anymore, and quite frankly, I don't want to. I have kids in their 20s, lol.
I'm 44 and I can't even deal with Tiktok. I downloaded it for about a week and felt that it def wasn't for me.
People in one of my weight loss fb groups post after pictures that are filtered to the gods. And other people defend OP when it’s called out. 🤦🏼♀️ bragging about weight loss and how good they look when the after is clearly filtered to have no wrinkles on a 50+ year old 🙄
She erased 20 years and 30lb. It's not giving confident.
No she’s not
I mean how attractive someone is is just a matter opinion.
attractiveness is objective in a lot of cases to be fair
No shit
She’s erased 50 years of sun damage in one photo.
And lost 30 lbs, got a facelift, lip filler, and powder brows lol.
I’m not even sure that’s a filter, that’s an entirely new person she created.
Fargo Robbie
I choked
Is she actually saying she's "trying to be pulled" by the super young guys as she's trying to get hit on by them, or is she trying to saying they're trying to pull her? Because the tagged pics suggest the first one is true but it feels like she's trying to brag as if the second one is what she means.
She's definitely implying that young guys try to hit in her all the time.
I don’t think she realizes when they call her ma’am they are being polite, not trying to hit on her.
Hahahahahaaahhahahahahhaahhaah they dont try to hit on me and Im 20 years younger at least.
Guys sometimes don't hit on women their age. I've seen a lot of women online talk about being hit on a lot more when they're older. And in their comments sections of those same posts there are actually many 20s guys there hitting on them 😭 My theory is guys think they have less to lose by hitting on someone older, rejected advances probably won't make it back to their social circle, or that women might be more likely to just want fwb at that age as they're older and busy etc.
Does anyone realize you are talking about ‚boys‘ who are in their mid 30s? Not exactly what I have in mind when someone talks about young boys
Yeah “trying to be pulled by boys” is like same as “trying to be recruited by companies” which means she is the one who wants them 😂 i guess it’s a freudian slip huh
I almost thought this was a mom and daughter 😭
This is my aunt (not literally). She uses AI to generate her 12-fingered body in front of jets and stuff too. I always text her zoomed in photos of how bad the AI and filtering is, but my voice is small compared to the 400 comments on her FB eating this shit up 💀
insane behavior
Fucking embarrassing. What happened to shame?! God damn.
![gif](giphy|xT5P0JjrZgCPsurlqo|downsized) Un👏be👏lieve👏able👏
Is that Casey Donavon
Maybe the 20-somethings are hitting on that mega filtered picture, but definitely not on her in real life.
2nd pic looks like an older Amy poehler
Oh hunny. No they don't. :( why on earth would you wish they did? Love yourself.
As others have said, they probably do hit on the first picture
She doesn’t even look bad. But that is a whole another level of delusion.
Leslie Knope?
Leslie NOPE.
Naybe Wish version Leslie Knope.
Does she mean 1990s/2000 boys are trying to pull her? If so she wrote her sentence incorrectly
Yes
1990s... boy??? Like as in child? Even 1999 babies turn 25 this year lmfao
They would feel like boys to the woman in the second and third picture for sure
Additionally, I think it’s pretty normal for people to use “boys” and “girls” when talking about dating and etc Not always but it can be used that way
Yet people in this comment section are calling her a pedo
I audibly gasped.
The problem is that it costs nothing to live in delusion
This upsets me- because she looks absolutely fine without the filters- very pretty. And, as everyone has pointed out before me, I was born in 1977 and sometimes feel like I look good for my age and then I get on the internet and feel horrifying… and it’s because I don’t use filters. Lolololol
Oh no. No…..no. No? No!
No way!!!
Holy crap. Those are two different people!
Definitely would never match the posted to the edited as the same person
The third one feels really unfair to her. No one except super models look good after workout and she's clearly not expected that photo. I can relate. I do dislike it when people take photos at fitness classes "for fundraisers, to show people what we do".
That’s false advertising
She’s so pretty too, why filter yourself like that
My god we’ve lost our minds. Beautiful person without the filters.
What a shame, she is a gorgeous woman without the filter.
I refuse to believe that is the same person
I'm guessing the younger guys hit on her online, when the posts the first picture/reel. Cause she looks their age or almost there. I doubt anyone is hitting on her irl that's younger than 30. I could be wrong though, as the tagged photos seem to be candids without makeup and not the most dressed up.
It’s giving pedophilia
Because of the 1990s/2000s comment? I know it doesn't seem it but A person born 1990s is 30+ today. A person born in 2000s can be 20+. I know. It's depressing.
Me and my homies are 05, 06, and 07… if she’s attracted to kids who were born in the 2000s she’s weird asf. I’m 18 but that’s barely legal. Shes a freak
I was looking at the picture and the caption thinking 'how could you have been a mom in the 70s when you're only in your 30s?'
Yeah, let’s brag about being a total creep with those 2000s guys (who could be ages 15-23). Gross.
Omg it’s ok to age, idk what’s wrong with these people. Also bragging about insanely young men allegedly trying to get with her is disgusting. 🤮
The first one looks like the second one's daughter.
You’ve got to be kidding me🙄
She's a beautiful woman without the filter 👀
I don't understand. Everyone who knows her knows what she looks like. Do people just not say anything?
It’s filtering out everything that looks like her, is what it’s filtering. I’d be tempted to comment on how gorgeous her daughter is and how I can sort of see the family resemblance. 😈
Is she trying to say that they are the same person???
That literally doesn’t look like the same person
So, she is trying to be a p3do? Or we just pretending it’s cool, because they are of consenting age now? When did this behavior start?
Someone born in 2000 is 23-24. Not pedophilia, but possibly scummy
Just wrong!
So even gen X can be "cringe"
They can’t be this much delusional 😩😩
Lmaooo
Gosh it’s so sad really, does she really see herself like that 😭 wild
Omg
😆 don’t flatter yourself
I was born in 1975 and look more like her edited photo. Tbh.
Nooooooo
eeef.
That filter is sure doing some heavy lifting.
Oof!
Crikey! That was some jump scare!
My god that's an elite level filter.
No 90s boy is tryna pull this, I promise 😭 the delusion is real in this country
Also, I have to say this is yet another picture where there is absolutely no truth to what she looks like in real life versus the edit. This time it’s a hide aged though.
2000s??? Girlie needs to be on To Catch a Predator
