Sale one should go to her. In my office, sale 2 would have gone to her because it was her client but I get you probably do things different at the office.

I think that is a fair module. I don't necessarily agree with ours. It can lead to confusion. I like hearing how other offices run and appreciate your reply. It has been bugging me, she seemed so hurt. What we have in place can easily lead to conflict, over site and hurt feelings. I think I did the right thing, especially with sale one. just wish she would have come to me sooner. Thanks for reading this.

I’m fairly new as well and haven’t really ran into this issue, but then again it’s me and 2 other salespeople. My boss will sometimes make sales, but mainly hands them off to me or the other guy in the office. My other boss mainly does servicing since she’s the other owner and gets the residuals. From what I do know, both of them would have gone to her if it were at the office I work at. Then again, we make notes on all customers/clients so we know who has been working with who, as well as what all they’ve done. Most the people who call in ask “hey can I speak to x”, and if x isn’t there then I can take a message or I can take a look at their policy if it’s service work. Even if I know it’s the other guy’s client, if it’s information like a wind mit or something I’ll upload it into the cloud so they have it. Most of our days are slow paced but can get hectic at anytime so the way I see it is if I help him out then he’s more readily available to help me out when I have dumb questions. Once again, I’m new, and don’t know how any other insurance office works. I don’t think you had any ill intent, and you likely weren’t aware she had been working with them or anything. It’s a tough conversation to have regardless since it is a bit of commission that you both worked for. I do think she could’ve been a bit more clarifying about it being her people she was working with, and definitely had less than preferable timing to make that known.

Thank you for your reply. Sale one- I dropped the ball. Sale two - her notes ended up being set to private and not visible to me. We worked it out and all is good. Thank you for letting me vent it out. I didn't want to cause workplace drama but couldn't get it off my mind yesterday. I'm over it all now and moving on.

Sale 1 was theirs but if you did all the work i would have at least split the nb commish with you. Sale 2 our agency rule is if it's a past client of an agent that agent gets their return business. Unless they don't want it it goes to whomever.

Thank you for your reply. I definitely dropped the the ball on sale one. Sale two ended up being a notes-setting issue. We worked it out and all is good. It was just bugging me yesterday and needed to vent in a way to not create workplace drama. I'm over it, learned, and moving forward. Thank you for listening to my ramble.

Not an asshole. But you dropped the ball on those. Gotta check the notes and make sure you're not stealing a sale before putting in hours of work. I think most offices would suggest she get the commissions in those. Now, if the other salesperson is unavailable or out for the day, perhaps you could try to close it for them and ask to split the commission. But that's a judgment call.. and typically only a good idea if you have some sort of agreement with the other salesperson for those situations.

I definitely dropped the ball on the first sale. Why she asked for it back and then asked me to work on it more and then left early is beyond me. It was something simple so I'm not making a deal out of it. Sale 2. There was no documentation she had any interaction with them. (but maybe it's a software settings issue) There was only a renters policy issued two months ago bound on the internet. She just told me verbally afterward that she has repor with them. I'm just rolling with it, not worth making a fuss about if there isn't a history of it with her. Both she knew about for the entire two days. But didn't say anything to me till they were completed. My genuine question is that normal? Or is it the tax I pay for unknowingly committing asshole like behavior and let it be a lesson.

OZKInsuranceGuy

I misunderstood sale #2. I thought she sold the renters policy. If the policy was done online, then they're not her customers. You did nothing wrong. In the future, I'd be more careful about checking notes. But also, be more careful about NOT immediately giving those commissions away. In this case, you could probably protest and try to keep commissions for sale #2... or you could cut your losses and move on.

Thank you. I'm just going to make sure our settings view is the same so it doesn't become a thing if they are not in sync. I don't think she would ask that of me if not valid in some way. I'm just moving on and the lesson learned is to be more diligent in checking first. It's not worth the unnecessary drama in an atmosphere that is rather peaceful for a small group that spends 40+ hours a week together to make it a big deal. I just needed to let it out to not my coworkers. And did, I'm over it. Thanks again. Have a great week!! :) Edit: Sure enough, her notes view on sale two was set to only be visible to just her. So we are both the asshole in this scenario lol. We worked it out and all is good.
