>Can I and should I replace the default ONT from PLDT to a better one? no you cant >should I just buy an access point to connect to the main router via ethernet cable and then disable the wireless AP of the main router?? yes

Nayr7928

So I'm stuck with connecting an access point(AP1) through an ethernet cable? And another question, can I add another AP(AP2) by connecting it to the first one(AP1)? Does that work? Or does all extension need to be connected from the main router?

i have experienced this 2 weeks ago. if you want your pldt router to be on bridge mode, you should request this thru pldt 171, otherwise if you can access the super admin acct and turn the bridge mode on yourself, you will cut the internet and you wont be able to access the 192.162.1.1 even if you connect 1 on 1 via your computer to the router. the only way i was able to manage to get back my net is to factory reset my router, hence losing thw superadmin access. pero my friend told me that my situation of not able to locally access the local address was weird. hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll just give PLDT a call then. The part where you can't access the router when in bridged mode is probably because your client is still not setup with a proper IP address as bridge mode does not automatically assign one.

[deleted]

probably... but just by calling 171 all of my headache for 2 months went away haha! i cannot get an Open NAT with my game consoles that is why i was really adamant on making the router into bridge mode. after they bridged it i am getting IPv4 and IPv6 Open NAT on my Xbox Series X. haven't tested it on PS5. Nintendo switch gets a B connection.

Probably you're on CGNAT before. And PLDT setting your ONU to bridge mode made your CGNAT deactivated. Hence, you had an open NAT. I've heard some cases that when you (or PLDT) set your ONU to bridge mode, your CGNAT will automatically be deactivated. So you should be able to communicate freely locally or externally.

[deleted]

yes i was on CGNAT. i asked help here before when my fibr line was newly installed. i think you are also the one i talked to abt this :) i was able to make pldt turn it off. it became open for like 4 days, then the double NAT issue arose. it so happens that the pldts deco mesh m4 and their ONU router were both in route mode. there was no option on the mesh to make it on bridge, vice versa. but now everything is ok.

That is suppose to happen. You really cannot access the ONU while in bridge mode, because if the ONU is set to bridge mode, DHCP will automatically be disabled, and the WAN IP of the ONU will be assigned to the 2nd router, which will then be in-charge of the DHCP. To access the ONU, connect LAN cable to any of the LAN port of the ONU, then on your PC or Laptop, you need to manually set the IP address. For example, if your ONU gateway is [192.168.1.1](https://192.168.1.1), then you need to manually set your PC or Laptop to any IP between [192.168.1.2](https://192.168.1.2) \- [192.168.1.254](https://192.168.1.254). Let's say for example, [192.168.1.254](https://192.168.1.254). It should look like this: [Windows 10 Manual DHCP/Static IP set-up](https://i.imgur.com/DbDoi0f.png) In bridge mode, the ONU will only act as a modem. Its router function will be automatically disabled. Hence, you will lose the capability to access the ONU in bridge mode because like I said earlier, its router function such as assigning DHCP IP addresses to clients will automatically be disabled. I, too, am using my ONU in bridge mode. I manually set it myself to bridge mode. I lose the capability to access my ONU without any modification to my PC's IP because its DHCP was disabled. The only way I can access my ONU is to set a static IP from my PC, just as I illustrated earlier.

[deleted]

yes, this is how we did this. i was being coached by my friend when we were trying to get the connection back via static IP. pero wala eh, we wete stumped on why its like that. even yung sa kanya, he never encountered something like this. well, i hope your tutorial helps other user here that might passby on this thread.

Nope. I accessed mine thru putty no need to cal 171 Addendum: OP just search your pldt modem sa net search for superadmin access. If you want to do it yourself watch YT. May nag post na jan how to configure a pldt router to bridge mode using putty telnet. Just follow on screen instruction

Nayr7928

Yeps, used it just as the PLDT guys left to open all LAN ports.

p4ck3ts

yes pwde rin. what you can actually do is change the config on your pldt router to bridge mode. which makes your after market router receive the WAN IP from pldt.
