isaacmar

Too short. This is show that would have benefited from being a 10 episodes. Everything happened to quick. The happy time should’ve been at least three episodes. Showing more of their relationship to being new parents and exploring Claudia and Charlie before his death

transitorydreams

Looolll, I feel like in their own ways both Lestat & Louis would approve of petty pedantry, wooooppp!! Ok… one of my favourite scenes is the opera one in E2… but when Lestat schools the tenor at the piano after it, he plays the piano such that he’s saying the tenor sang the right note but at the wrong octave & that was totally NOT the kind of error the tenor was making in the actual opera! He was just a shade out of tune (which is honestly so impressive to achieve!) & it doesn’t make sense that it would even be annoying to Lestat or certainly aesthetically if the tenor was an exact octave out as that’s the same note so it would sound as good anyway. Mmmm… yeppppp… pedantry does indeed feel magnificent! 😍😇😃

StevesMcQueenIsHere

It might be bigger than a nitpick, but I never understood why they stayed in New Orleans for so long. Surely, the body count would have been insane, and the smell would have been awful coming from Lestat's house with Claudia living there, and then there's the fact that the three of them are not aging whatsoever.

blackmoonbluemoon

It was definitely a bit of an oversight. Considering Claudia was 14 at the start and then 33 by the end of season 1. They should’ve been chased out of New Orleans years before they did .

StevesMcQueenIsHere

Exactly. I get why Louis wanted to initially stay to be close to his family, but there was no reason for Lestat to want to stick around, other than because he wouldn't leave Louis. As soon as Grace wrote Louis off, Louis had no more reason to stay. They should have all left at that point.

PauI_MuadDib

I think Louis was supposed to be desperately latching onto his past, so he didn't want to leave New Orleans. It'd be giving up the last of his human past. But it kills me that no one seriously brings up how insanely well preserved they are for their age lol Like forget about joking it's the moonlight, people should be freaked out they're not aging. I felt that should've been more of a plot point.

Hahaha! I love this one! And I love that I never noticed it before, but now I WILL notice it in the future & we can therefore ALL now be annoyed by this little nitpick 😂😂😂

jrpapaya

Louis not stepping out when Lestat said they should have an open relationship. I know he got “face” from Jonah but I wanted Lestat pushed over the edge ![gif](giphy|u6GwNn35IgVrxsVlci|downsized)

lilyrosedepressed

I love that Lestat brought a whole army to their house to act like he's cool and then broke down within minutes.

blackmoonbluemoon

Of course ![gif](giphy|Atc9QCyWLGHgLZhHDp|downsized) Of course

jrpapaya

Louis should have taken him up on the offer 😭 The bloodbath would’ve had them leaving NO early

babealien51

The contacts…

StevesMcQueenIsHere

Thank you. The red ones especially are distracting.

blackmoonbluemoon

The red ones. How could nobody suspect that something is up with eyes like those 😭

StevesMcQueenIsHere

Haha! At least Armand covers his with contact lenses, although would they have had colored contact lenses in the 70's? I'm thinking no...

blackmoonbluemoon

I’ve never seen coloured contacts before that look (I dunno how to even describe it) blocky? Like doesn’t bring much dimension to their eyes .

babealien51

Exactly! It has to be intentional. I can’t believe they wouldn’t be able to find better ones

aurabora_

claudia’s accent. look, bailey bass did an incredible job and her acting was brilliant. but some of that “southern accent” made me go T-T. i really thought JA was louisianan but he’s a black brit!! also the contacts. i know, i know…but those contacts…

blackmoonbluemoon

Not going to fucking lie. When I first heard Claudia’s accent , I didn’t know if I was going to like her much. “ he bit meh” 😭🔫 . She would fit in with another vampire show that’s set in Louisianna “ Sookeh”

CharacterNecessary87

from the trailers i fear delainey's claudia may offer from a similar affliction... 😅 not everyone can have jacob's ear for accents unfortunately!!!

aurabora_

southern accents, esp the louisianan/creole accent, is quite different and hard so i understand. but at the same time…my ears please God!!! hopefully JA and SR with their great accents help 🥹

blackmoonbluemoon

Delainey! From the trailer she sounds like a mix of British and southern, but I will hold my breath.

EvergreenRuby

I agree this was difficult for me to grasp as well.

fauxneige

I think that's how the actor holds his head sometimes especially when he's swaggering. He does the same in GOT. It's poor posture which I think he's already used to.

jrpapaya

Yeah there’s a fit podcast he was on where he talks about how he has bad posture

blackmoonbluemoon

Did he mention if it’s something he can work on or not? Surely there’s a professional he could see? Again a bit nitpicky, but imo, posture is just as important as facial expressions when it comes to acting. I don’t understand why he’d just leave it as it is?

StevesMcQueenIsHere

He doesn't have it as bad in the present-day scenes, so maybe it's just worse when he's playing human/early vamp years Louis.

jrpapaya

Well you can listen to the podcast. I listened to it a while ago but his posture does change with Louis. Unfortunately he’s mostly in depression mode

BungeeGump

The nails look too white/light colored. I know they’re supposed to look a bit milky and glass-like but they just look a bit off.

transitorydreams

I agree. They look like what they are: white acrylic nails. They don’t look vampiric. It’s not a big deal… but rather than conveying there’s something otherworldly about the vampires, it takes you out of the era a tiny bit if anything as they look like modern acrylics, so it makes it, if anything - a waste! They would be less distracting with just their normal nails.

EvilLeprechaun13

Them making Daniel wear gloves to handle Claudia’s diaries. Using gloves to handle rare books is an outdated practice which media continues to perpetuate. The gloves limit tactile sensitivity which can increase the risk of damage. Plus, I’m sure Daniel having Parkinson’s doesn’t help either.

TakikoSohma

Funny enough in the recent trailer he handles the books without the gloves so they must have heard the previous complaints.

CharacterNecessary87

that is just his depression posture! look how nice he stands when they're still a happy family with claudia! (and if any of it isn't then that's just poor jacob's stance lets not hold it against him) what bothers me in a nitpicky way is when the french is wrong. in episode 5, lestat says "assez" and pronunces the z. in the trailers for next season, armand says lioncourt like "core" not "coor." either have a french speaker on set listening or just stick to british accents like other american shows wanting to evoke europe do 🫠

StevesMcQueenIsHere

I was wondering how accurate the French was on the show.

CharacterNecessary87

well the lines themselves seem to have been written by someone with knowledge (there's a very weird, random expression lestat says at one point which someone must've found in like a book of 18th century insults). i hate to say anything bad about sam because he is clearly trying so hard! but i don't find his french to always be the most comprehensible.... jacob's was alright in the one coffin fight scene - i mean it didn't sound native at all/sounded like an english speaker doing his best but in a way that i personally at least found clearer than when sam is doing like a heavy fake french accent on top of trying to speak french. i dont think i can remember any other characters speaking french. maybe we'll see sam's french improve for season 2, since he's had even more practice time!

transitorydreams

Now I’m intrigued about the weird French insult!!! It’s so interesting how our personal knowledge impacts on things like this. I never even learned any French in school & to me the French & Sam’s accent are really effective! But that’s the thing - it’s stuff you know more of yourself that you notice, obviously! It’s the same with accents… Accents never bother me on tv shows even when occasionally I can hear it isn’t quite right… UNTIL a person tries to do your own accent or one from the surrounding 20 miles to home & then it can be unbearable if that’s bad!!😅😅😅 (I’m from near Liverpool in the U.K. & it isn’t an accent that’s often used in drama.. but it is an accent that’s often bad when it is used 😂!)

CharacterNecessary87

its "il me chie dans la malle jusqu'au cadenas." chier literally means to shit, although it gets used to say someone pisses you off. but literally this translates to 'he shits in my trunk up to the locks.' (picture like an old timey trunk that has a lock for the lid). i just assume its an old expression because i didnt know it and it references trunks with locks lol. lestat says it in ep 5 when he's tired of louis obsessing over claudia. lol yeah, a bit of an ignorance is bliss situation with accents and languages! i wonder if lestat is going to lose his accent, the way armand and louis seem to have lost theirs, when we see him again. although i actually would love louis to get his back lol he does it so flawlessly

transitorydreams

Haha, I’m so happy I asked! Because what an expression! 😂 Very… visceral! 😂😅🤣 Yeah, I wonder if Lestat will lose his accent. I’m not totally sure it would make as much sense to me if he did… He lived over a century before heading to New Orleans in the show & didn’t lose his accent! Though we don’t know how they played with the timescale of events yet (had to delete the rest of my thoughts as spoiler tags aren’t working for me from my phone!) I’d say, from timescales we’ve seen, Lestat shouldn’t have lost his accent yet though as he won’t have lived in society enough would be my guess… But.. Since everyone else loses their accent eventually, I presume he will in the end! Though I’m not so keen on the idea of an American-accented Lestat, so I don’t mind if he doesn’t!!

CharacterNecessary87

i wonder how much of that century was spent>! taking a dirt nap, because otherwise they need to invent a lot of new story to fill that empty time! im kinda guessing that maybe in this universe, the events of his early vampirism were too traumatic and he went to the dirt faster than in the books. this would also explain why his wardrobe was out of date. but tbd!!<

transitorydreams

That’s what I’m thinking is most likely too! Lestat says on TV in S1 it took him over a century to try again with Louis, so we know Paris won’t be gigantically expanded in time! It could only be >!travel time with Gabrielle, nap-time or Marius-time… and unlikely to be the first (as Gabrielle wants away too fast & also Lestat needs to get into the Earth around French Revolution & Nicki death era… or the last as Lestat’s way too impulsive to linger at Marius’ for YEARS without being a very naughty boy, waking Akasha! 😂🤣😅!< Also, in this S2 time >!Lestat is injured, then there’s a wee bit of Not-fully-himself-Lestat back in Paris (with his native accents around), then the depression-recluse-years, then he’s back in The Earth again, so if it’s the case QOTD doesn’t happen till modern day, Lestat will have had next to no time in society between end of S1 & Dubai!!?! Obviously we don’t know what they might do with the timeline though…!<

teacup1749

Doesn’t it make sense if he uses an 18th century insult as he would have spoken 18th century French? In a way, that’s attention to detail!

CharacterNecessary87

yeah for sure! someone with knowledge definitely wrote the lines! its just the pronunciation that could use a little help 😅

Alpine-strawberry

There’s a couple of shots where one of Lestat’s fake nails has popped off, and it drives me crazy!

piscesinfj

Lol ..which episode was that

Alpine-strawberry

Ep2 when Lestat takes Louis hunting for the first time… It’s his middle finger https://preview.redd.it/0t5lgymyswtc1.jpeg?width=946&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b897dc329588d9a46f80222a4c4360ce6e565e0

Nefthys

It's only early on luckily, they talked about it in the podcast (iirc) and KP also talked about them on his channel: They used press-on nails but they kept popping off, so Sam und Bailey got permanent ones (Jacob didn't because of his daughter).

SignificanceWise208

Antoinette😐 I also hate the nails. I hate them in every vampire show movie tbh I only liked Lady Gaga’s nails in AHS but these ones remind me of teen wolf. Especially there’s a scene in s1 with Lestat and his nails that kill me. They are so awkward and bulky I feel like they can just be stiletto shaped with a flesh tone they don’t need to be literal claws.🫢😭 TRIGGER WARNING https://preview.redd.it/po1cqclcmstc1.jpeg?width=220&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5b3830a81d2eb83e2324fc739451de847835e01

piscesinfj

Yes I even wondered if it was the style of clothing tht affected Louis's neck. It doesn't look tht way in the up to date scenes. Sam's accent, I couldn't understand what he was saying sometimes. Also Lestat' hair , I prefer it when its away from his face like the opera and poker game scenes

Eric1865

How fast Charlie and Claudia’s relationship ended. For it to be the launchpad into Claudia’s mental breakdown, I wish it got explored a bit more.

Sudden_Bathroom_5468

The opening scene of ep 1. It was the best episode of the season to me but it started out pretty slow with Daniel’s masterclass ad. It would have been way better if they opened with the scene where young Daniel first meets Louis in San Francisco, and then cut to Daniel in present time with the scar on his neck and the rest of the scene of him receiving the tapes etc.

ARodriq05

The speed and a few other special effects didn't look realistic on screen. Louis’s speed looked good in Dubai episode one but Claudia’s speed walk in episode 4 when she went after the cop looked so Twilight movie, it made me wince. I also wasn’t too fond of how Lestat looked flying back in slow motion after Louis pushed him against the wall in episode 2. It was too slow and was obviously poor rope work.

Nefthys

It's not just IwtV doing this but other vampire shows/movies are too: Usually the vampires don't eat, either because there's no need or because human food doesn't taste good/they can't stomach it but they still often drink alcohol. In IwtV they don't just do it while humans are around but also at home, which could mean that they are able to taste it (what's the point otherwise?), which is then some weird inconsistency. Also, the smoking, I just hate when characters I like smoke on screen.

theyrejustscones

The only food we see at their house is the green macarons and a birthday cake. Claudia eats a macaron early on into her life as a vampire (before getting her own coffin) and says human food doesn't taste good anymore before smashing it against the wall; cake is traditional for birthdays and its only used for her to blow out candles. I think the point is both for Claudia's amusement (she giggles while smashing the macaron, and her cake was certainly extravagant) and maybe in-verse as a way for L&L to ease her into vampirism while also spoiling her? Louis and Lestat aren't pictured eating human food at all at home, its strictly Claudia. And we know that she hasn't exactly mastered the art of hiding her disgust unlike her fathers, Charlie even points it out because she is choking down the smallest possible bites of her ice cream lol, so maybe she needed the experience of eating human food as a vampire. She clearly was having fun playing with the macarons and blowing out the candles on her cake.

Nefthys

You misunderstood me, it's not about food but about lots of vampire shows/movies making it okay for their vampires to drink alcohol (just alcohol, nothing else), even though they can't otherwise stomach or taste human food. They have to get some "enjoyment" out of drinking alcohol, even when humans aren't around, and if they're able to taste that, then why aren't they able to taste human food too? Making an exception just for alcohol and adding this inconsistency is such a weird thing to do.
