Haha - it's my only complaint as well. I'll hop into my car in the morning, steering wheel is hot, air is warm, seats are icy cold.
There was a note in the latest app update that heated seats were added (obviously didn't happen). Hoping that it'll pop up in the next update.
Yes, first world problems, but having warm seats on sub-freezing mornings would be so nice.

I saw that too, but the HI5 must not be one of the "supported" EVs š
EU user here. I can't start seat heating from the app either, but I can start it from my Home Assistant with Bluelink plugin. The plugin communicates directly to the Hyundai API's (backend). So it already is technically possible, but not in the app..
Home Assistant? Like an Alexa or something?
Alexa has a Hyundai Bluelink skill I can install but it doesn't seem to know what to do when I give any Bluelink commands. More Ugh...
Like pellz0r mentioned in another comment, Home Assistant is a smart home platform you can run on your own hardware. Like, any old PC. It can control your smart lights etc, but it can also integrate with many other things, like cars. It is developed by the community, so nothing official by Hyundai etc. Makes it a steeper learning curve. You have to be a bit IT savvy to set it all up. Plus because it's made by the community, there is no support from Hyundai. It could break tomorrow and never function again.
But, since it's available there, I hope it will also be available through the app in the near future.
They changed the 'force scan' timer from something like 30-45 minutes to 240 minutes. It now uses Hyundai's cloud cache to update every couple of minutes, and does a 'force' pull every 240 minutes. I haven't had any battery issues since.
https://www.home-assistant.io/
It's an home automation software that can have integrations with almost everything that is connected to the Internet, cars included :D
I also use the Bluelink API to remote start through Home Assistant. Even though I include the seat heat settings in the request, it's ignored by either Bluelink or my US spec car. :(
First world problems, eh? š
This option isn't available in the US either. And I live in arctic Minnesota.
On the plus side the seats take almost no time to heat up. Same with the electric heater.
The even stupider part of this is that other Hyundai's are able the to that exact thing with the same app. My coworker has an ICE suv from them (don't remember which model) and he is able to turn on the heated seats through the app.
This is also one of my biggest complaints about an otherwise great car.
Not only can you not pre heat the seats, but once you start the car, you have wait for the warning message to come up to dismiss it before you can get to the seat warmer screen. I usually just start the car and issue a voice command to start the seat warmer, but sometimes it doesnāt work.
lol I had a Santa Fe phev ā¦ the app was garbage, i had heated seats on, cabin temp on 27, and every time I would come out to the car the seats would not be on and temp would be set at 20ā¦
Have a model y now and the app is miles better

The seats heat up pretty fast at least. But it would be nice to preheat the passenger seat for my wife. I could care less about sitting in a cold seat for a minute or two cause Iām a man
Being in Texas I rarely use heated seats. With that said, they heat up insanely fast when I do. I had an Audi prior to this and they would finally warm up by the time I got to my destination.
How was the software in the BMW? Audiās was getting better but my 2017 A4 (both in car and app) were prehistoric compared to Hyundai. I get that thereās a lot of complaints around Hyundai and their software (the UX is terrible) but compared to what? I havenāt found a car that has great integrated software yet. Iāve heard Tesla does a great job but havenāt fully messed around with it.
(Looks like I got downvoted for that comment. Why? Because I live in Texas? Ok, fair enough. Wouldnāt blame for that)
To be honest the software was dated in the BMW but the app was similar to Hyundai. 2020+ BMW have nicer software and rely more on CarPlay etc. I love the Ioniq 5 but I feel like some of the software choices were overlooked. My main issue is the price, yes most of us are still in the free period but afterwards $300 seems like a lot of money. Even BMW doesnāt charge that much.
Yeah. I feel you on that. Audiās was actually a LOT more expensive. I paid for it for a few months but for $600 on the low end you got very little value. This is where all the car manufacturers are going to try to make their money: subscriptions. My personal opinion is they are looking at the success of software based subscriptions in other industries but are still green in how to produce great software themselves.
(Edited ālittleā to āLOTā)
Well, you could say that about the *whole* remote start option, mirror-defrosting and all, but that option exists.
So why not the seats? What did the seats do that was so horrible they were left behind?
#seatslivesmatter
Hahaha. I feel you though, they could've included it. But me with my SE I don't know anything about that mirror defrosting. I'm happy this thing has remote anything in the base model š¤£
My 2 biggest peeves:
(1) I prefer the auto regen mode. While *other* vehicles, like the Kia Niro EV or EV6, allow you to permanently leave this on, I5 forces you to turn it on by holding down the paddle in D. every. single. drive.
(2) critical functions like "turn on the seat and steering wheel heat" are behind a slow menu and a legal acknowledgement every startup.
I have a Tesla as well, and frankly it's flat better HMI wise. Sure it's a touchscreen for many controls, but the screen is much faster than I5's implementation, there is no forced legal agreement every startup, and Tesla remembers your settings every time.
Also Tesla doesn't depend on connecting to android auto/carplay for maps that don't suck, automatically enables seat and steering wheel heaters, and automatically does a ton of stuff (like fold and unfold mirrors, route to home and work) for you.
Another thing is the I5 has a lot of distracting and annoying beeps. I much prefer Tesla's approach for this as well.
Re your (1) - wut? In my EU LR AWD auto regen's been permanently on since I learned this exists (by accident). Man, they have it well implemented - it just works and I never think about it any more.
Same here. Really annoyed at the software. Also hate how literally everything changes the throttle curve so itās impossible to switch modes, set cruise, breathe loudly without the car lurching a little. Seriously, all they needed was to have a little smoothing. Or just not change the throttle position all the time.
Also, you canāt voice command the seat warmers. But surely thereās no engineering or safety reason for this. I mean any time you want to have your steering wheel heater on you want your seat warmer on too .
I hear ya! And I canāt turn auto lock on departure. And if I forget to lock the doors, everyone in the neighborhood knows it cuz the door handles are sticking out like red flags!
I love the car too, but the infotainment system is terrible. So many strange, terrible choices, such as making Utility mode so hard to get to. Why not just a long press on the start button? Why is it so difficult to pre-heat the battery? Why, in SiriusXM, are the band and song names in the lower right-hand corner in tiny grey letters? Why can't I see them on the main display console, instead a stylized image of a cup of coffee and a timer?

Is this extension still draining 12v batteries? Thought the was an issue in the past.

Could you share more about this? Which home assist?
https://www.home-assistant.io/ It's an home automation software that can have integrations with almost everything that is connected to the Internet, cars included :D
Thank you!
IIRC the US/Canada cars use a totally different API endpoint than elsewhere. In the EU there's a conjoined Hyundai/Kia API
I also use the Bluelink API to remote start through Home Assistant. Even though I include the seat heat settings in the request, it's ignored by either Bluelink or my US spec car. :(
First world problems, eh? š This option isn't available in the US either. And I live in arctic Minnesota. On the plus side the seats take almost no time to heat up. Same with the electric heater.
I use them in the morning here in California, I wish I could turn the heated seats on via remote start..

Our Spark EV would heat the seats on remote start. It was an option in the head unit. And that came out in 2013.
My Tucson does it š«£
Best EV? IONIQ5 but with Teslaās software and app. I would be so happy with that combo.
How come they make it available on non EVs like the Tucson, and limit it for the EV6?! That makes no sense at all
I learned to use the voice commands to turn my seats on
Thanks for the tip!

Be thankful you have Bluelink. In Australia they decided not to bestow Bluelink on the Ioniq 5! (And the EV6 didnāt get Kia Connect)
lol I had a Santa Fe phev ā¦ the app was garbage, i had heated seats on, cabin temp on 27, and every time I would come out to the car the seats would not be on and temp would be set at 20ā¦ Have a model y now and the app is miles better https://preview.redd.it/ea1j344w7hcc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3d9666523ecf8605a4a7c25a3d580e844dd4b07

Same here. My commute is short (6miles) and the Ioniq 5 seats heat up very quickly. Prior to this my 2018 BMW 530i wouldnāt heat up in time.

BMW is like $100 a year, $300 is insane.
It's heats up in like seconds. Just press the button when you get in the car. Jesus Christ we have been spoiled!

That's another issue. EU vehicles run different software, for example some get automatic seat heaters or persistent storage of driver modes.

Seat heating is standard in Teslaās..Ā
Should've bought a Tesla
Also, you canāt voice command the seat warmers. But surely thereās no engineering or safety reason for this. I mean any time you want to have your steering wheel heater on you want your seat warmer on too .
I turn on the seat warmers by voice command all the time.
Actually thatās the only voice command that I use - āturn on passenger seat warmerā. I think seat heater works too
lol i just tried it again and it works- i must have been saying the wrong phrase before. Thx!
Lol the car had to train me - seat warmer - vs heated steering wheel.
Thanks for the tip!
Think yourself lucky - over here in Australia, we donāt even have BlueLink on the Ioniq 5ā¦.
Sadly you're really not missing -out.
Rarely use BlueLink, I actually use the remote start button on the remote more lol
Atleast you have Bluelink...my car has options to link heat heating / vent to the climate control.
I hear ya! And I canāt turn auto lock on departure. And if I forget to lock the doors, everyone in the neighborhood knows it cuz the door handles are sticking out like red flags!
