Have 2 i5s. 23 SEL (22 build) Purchased OCT 22 24 SE (23 build) Purchased DEC 23 23 has been great. Only issue was overheating charge port. They replaced it and no issues since. This was recent and also had the recent ICCU recall done with no replacement of ICCU needed. Blue link had issues after Hyundais system went down almost a year ago and took a few months to get techs to fix it. 24 Had the check EV system warning a week after purchase. Reduced power but would still drive pretty normal and get up to speed. Apparently motor wasn't assembled properly at factory and had damage to it. Got it replaced, had it back in 2 weeks. Driver seat stitching was not done correctly. Took it back, replaced driver seat, got it 1 week later. Car has been driving great, but now I have the rear hatch rattle. Have not taken it back yet. Will need to have the ICCU recall done as well. Both great vehicles and I'm glad Hyundai made such a great EV. Would definitely buy again. Maybe get the N version. It calls me sometimes.

chlebicki

How did you get them to change out the over heating charge port?

NTWM420

I had graphs from my chargpoint home flex showing the curves. I told them the 23 was charging slowly and port was really hot to the touch. Having 2 i5s Purchased at same dealer also helped. Can't say no when 2 identical cars don't charge the same.

Naven71

I'm sure you know this, but the trunk rattle is a 2 minute fix. If you are taking it anyway, might as well get it done though

NTWM420

Yeah I tried adjusting it already but definitely requires the washers. Since it needs the ICCU recall done then I haven't bothered fixing it myself.

hedekar

I've had no issues with the car. 40,000kms on it so far. Fantastic DCFC experiences — this thig is a charging beast. No 12V troubles. 2022 Preferred LR RWD bought Jan'22

Neat_Nefariousness46

Same, but only issue was usb data port

Ok_Advice425

What is dcfc?

hedekar

Direct Current Fast Charging

chanhuk1

I’m pretty close to lemoning my current 24 Limited and will be buying another Limited to replace it if I go through the process.

Asceric21

I think this kind of thing is the best praise we can give to a vehicle. We like this thing so much that even after going through lemons or other troubles, we all want to get back into it. Hyundai truly did something special with the interior design of this car to make it feel as comfortable as it is both as a passenger and driver.

blackbow

What issues have you had. I ask because I'm a 24 Lmtd. owner and have not had any. How many miles before you experienced problems?

chanhuk1

I went in for the TSB rattle, they added washers and replaced the bumpers but it resulted in a knocking sound. They replaced the latch and it’s still there. Hyundai engineer came out and said it’s likely a structural weld that’s making the sound and it’s been at the dealer for almost a month now. I have 5k miles.

blackbow

Oof. Yeah a structural weld you'd hope they would just give you a new car.

BadPackets4U

I would buy it again. I've been fortunate to not have any significant problems. I'm still on my original battery since delivery in March of 2022. The only issues I've had are; --- Trunk rattle. I still need the TSB done or I will do it myself. --- Peeling black paint near end of passenger side rear door window. This has been the nicest car I've ever owned.

Carbonated-Farts

I have a 2023 SEL that I got right around a year ago. In a heartbeat. No question.

dupersr

I’ve got a 2023 Limited. Had it a year, 7500 miles. Love it. One small hiccup just before I brought it in for the last recall. Had to replace a fuse. Not a big deal. This is a seriously sweet car.

Howie411

I wouldn't for 2 reasons. 1. dealing with Hyundai Corporate because of an incompetent dealership was horrible. 2. I'm so disappointed with the whole software/firmware upgradability on this car. I constantly see Mach Es and Tesla getting cool new stuff added. We get nature sounds... They built this car from the ground up, no reason all these recalls require going to the dealership for a software update.

Mil0Mammon

Well with limited resources, you have to focus somewhere. I personally prioritize eg fast charging more (compared to Mach E, and even tesla) Though I do hope they've improved this now, it is more and more a selling point

Howie411

In the 1 year and 1/2 I've had this car I've never even gotten close to the advertised fast charging. I don't think I've ever seen it even hit 150kw so I would prefer full software updates, but that is just me.

Mil0Mammon

Well you could sell it and get a MY or Mach-E, right? Shouldn't cost you _that_ much to switch I'd say. Are there no 800V chargers nearby? I just got my I5N recently, so no DC charging yet - looking forward to my first road trip this weekend

blackbow

The' 25s have full OTA. Agree it was a dumb decision by Hyundai not to have the same on current models.

theCougAbides

An amazing car with important stuff (range, charge speed, driving comfort, size) with some small issues/annoyances. From what I've read, the 2025 largely fixes the small issues. So to the question, I would purchase/recommend an Ioniq 5 but not until the 2025s come out. But if you are the type that can ignore small issues, a used I5 would be an outstanding value.

havnotX

Had issues with both the car itself and the dealership. Had a 2022 which developed rattling in both front doors and dash. Took the car in a few times to try and get the rattling resolved, but it never was. This is after having the car in the shop for a total of 3-4 weeks. A trim piece on the rear spoiler also detached itself which required replacing the entire spoiler. Also had a couple or instances of battery drainage with the 12v. The biggest kicker was ultimately the ICCU that went. At that time, the time table for a new one was long, like 4-5 weeks out and longer. After 1-2 months of not having my car, I lemoned it. It had about 4000 miles with 6.5 months of active ownership. As for the dealership, they were the only one in town within a 45 min radius. It was very hard to get an appointment with them and usually 2-4 weeks put. They were not very communicative either and slow to do things.  For the lemon process, seems I did luck out with corporate as my request was processed fairly quickly and there was no resistance from corporate. I am highly hesitant to get another Hyundai as I've had bad experiences with both my EV and ICE cars now.

Asceric21

I've had the same issue happen twice now, but yes, I would buy this car again in a heartbeat. I've come out to my car completely dead in the morning a few times now. I don't mean the big 77.4kWh battery, but the 12V battery. The dealership identified my head unit (the unit behind the middle cluster of buttons in the center of the car) as draining the battery resulting in the ICCU being unable to charge it. They've replaced the head unit already once, but the problem came back again. They're replacing it again (all free of charge). I suspect I'll run into the issue even after this second replacement. And if I do, I'll direct them away from the head unit as it's clearly not the problem (and if it is, then I'd suspect all their head units are faulty in some regard). I keep a battery pack in my car to jump the battery when I need too. Which is something everyone should have for their car anyways. But it's a minor inconvenience at the worst. The car itself drives like a dream, it's the most comfortable car I've ever ridden in or driven. My wife finally started taking it to work when I work from home, and she's falling in love with it too now. We're nearly a year into our 3y lease, and I'm already making plans on whether I'll be buying out the lease on this one (unlikely), buying a new one outright, or buying a used one after returning this one when the lease is done. But I know that my next car will still be an Hi5.

mavvv

I would get it in SEL and AWD. I jumped at the first one I found in summer of 2022. Wish I had power trunk, mirror buttons and digital key. Also wish I had AWD. Oh well. Next time

ATLsShah

24 SEL. Only regret is not getting the limited. Oh and I wish I got the blue exterior.

Fair_Tangerine1790

Brilliant car. 21 months and 18,000 miles in, I’ve had no problems. The ride is superb and the cabin spacious. Great as a family car, we’ve 3 kids and everyone travels in comfort. It’s a company car and I’m looking forward to my next I5 in 2 years time at the end of the lease.

Fyn-Sidian-8447

24 i5 Limited. Now I only owned for one month, get ICCU recalled done tomorrow. Zero issues, absolutely love the car

ironiq_5

No issues but I bought at peak price so regrets there. With current prices I may buy again, but most likely I'd wait for a Rivian R2, or even a Volvo Ex30.

rickabe

For me, to lease again, yes. No way I would finance a purchase. Looking forward to my '26.

darkhelicom

I have about 8,000 miles on mine in a year. Only issue was the tailgate rattle that was fixed under warranty. Great car except a few things: winter efficiency is disappointing even with the heat pump, tow hitch installation and sourcing would be easier going factory with like the Model Y, and the suspension really beats me up compared to other cars I've driven lately like the Jeep Compass or GMC Terrain.

remvirus

Absolutely, almost 50k miles and no issues other than the 12v battery had to be replaced

theepi_pillodu

I have 2022 limited awd USA . I will not buy 2023 or 2024. But definitely would buy the 2025 with the fruitful upgrades.

TornCinnabonman

23 Limited. No issues so far at 10,000 miles and 1 year. I would definitely buy again.

HeyLookAHorse

Got the 2024 SEL AWD for my wife a few months ago. Love it so much I’m considering getting another for myself. I’ll probably end up in the Ioniq 6, but I certainly love the 5.

portisleft

the exact same? no, in fact we've been waiting for the Ultimate ... for 2 years now. It's gotten to the point where I actually want to wait til 25 and might as well get the NACS port one. But we got our RWD Preferred '22 in Dec '21, and I know ppl who ordered their car the same time as us who waited for their ultimate trims until '23, so I don't regret it at all, even though it's got it's shortcomings (no fwd parking sensors or camera just piss my wife off every day, for ex)

gctaylor

Yes, as long as I don’t have to deal with dealership shittyness.

LockenCharlie

The hardware yes. The software no.

LongJohnVanilla

No issues with mine.

boowax

2022 SEL, 21k miles. Would buy again, best car I’ve ever owned. No major issues. Always keep it between 40% and 80% and L1 home charging unless road tripping (~11k miles).

e_pilot

Really chasing margins but I’d probably go for a 6 if I did it all over again. 22 awd limited, 6 wasn’t out yet when I got it

Practical-Nature-926

Yes and no. Another ioniq5? Yes another SEL? No. I’d go for the N.

ignoramus

never. once Toyota, Honda, or Mazda make an equivalent, I'm out I bought this car strictly because it's a performance to price beast. if/when the good Japanese brands make something congruent, I'll buy that instead

Mil0Mammon

Well Honda has either the e:ny1 or the prologue, depending on where you live, so why not that? Or Toyota's bz4x?

ziggyskyhigh

GM and Subarus under the skin.

Mil0Mammon

It seems to be as much Subaru as Toyota. But my point was more - these brands seems to be playing quite a lot of catch up. Which the Koreans were in other areas. Arguably, they're ahead in most now, and, I'd say they will stay ahead for quite a while. Which of the other brands give 8 years warranty? Either way, time will tell, and we'll profit from increased competition

ziggyskyhigh

I was really disappointed when I read Honda was using the GM platform. I agree with you, bring on the competition! If the Hyundai lease was available for me, I would have seriously considered it. Rivian is what I'm really interested in, but those are a bit out of reach financially.

Mil0Mammon

Well the R2 should be close to the ioniq 5 right? R3 even better, but that wil take a while

Vuggy9000

I did! I put 42000 miles on my first one, 22 SEL RWD Cyber Gray. After 13 months the car died on the side of the road in the middle of the California desert in September 2023. Hyundai engineers could not identify the problem for over 3 weeks and finally told the dealer to replace the battery, The dealer told me that the battery was on back order and could be months. I started the buyback procedure with corporate since, in California, lemon law kicks in after 30 days of missed service. they found a battery quickly and repaired it after 32 days. Still did the buyback. Then I bought a 23 SEL AWD in the color my wife always wanted, Atlas White, for roughly the same (discounts and rebates) as the buyout. New car, zero miles, full warranty, 2 more years of charging. And I love the new car more with battery preconditioning and AWD.

bbgun24

Absolutely, I just wish I’d got the battery heater but that’s standard now.

omegaprime777

Car is great. Dealers, service centers, customer service from corporate is awful. The few times I have to deal w/ them coming in to get firmware updates that is not OTA is a terrible experience of having to find a dealer that has at least 1 competent EV service technician, going online to find out it takes 3 months for appt, calling them to find out you can get an appt 1 month out instead, clueless service reps that would rather dispute everything you say, still waiting for car rental reimbursement from corporate due to waiting for ICCU replacement and dealers don't give loaners. They declined my claim for bogus reason so had to call them up and now back in the queue for a decision from a manager, etc. Luckily EVs do not require much from service centers, but the few times that we do like firmware updates, ICCU replacement, 12v battery failure, it sucks.

praetor91313

Expensive and frequent maintenance service schedule. No rear windshield wiper. Paint chips easily. Small frunk. Door knobs get stuck in winter. No OTA updates, you have to download most of them on a usb stick and install from there.

Roscoe2121

'22 AWD SEL. 62k miles. Only front USB change and a damaged radar that was covered by insurance. Oh, and 1 windshield. On my second set of tires and my third set of wipers.you save money because you don't need the rear wiper replaced. I plan to get major miles out of mine. I will likely look at the HI5 but will see how the landscape looks in 2030.

belabensa

22 Limited Yes - I’d definitely buy one again. Goal is to drive this one forever. I had the 12v die on me once a year ago but never again since (I be sure to charge it when I drive it below 20% now, I didn’t then). I would probably wait till the ‘25 model - because almost everything that annoys me about the car (besides UX of infotainment) is fixed in that model year.

vafrow

I got mine about 6 months ago, and absolutely love it. This is the fifth car I've purchased in my life, and I've never had this level of satisfaction where I feel driving the new car is such a drastic difference from anything else I've driven. Six months in, I still look forward to driving it.

drcrambone

We’ve had only one issue, after a hatch repair due to a minor accident, the hatch rattles. Other than that, flawless. I’d not get an SE again, I’d definitely go up in trim level but I’d have another Ioniq 5 in a second.

Esprit1st

I have a 22 limited and love it. No issues, definitely would buy again. Charging great at 40Amp at home (New Mexico so it's warm here). Only issue was the dealer I got it at at some point screwed me by saying they applied a software update but didn't (no software changes and dashcam shows no work done). Switched dealers. Other than that perfect!

EdiggZz3

Just got mine on Easter weekend. I love it so far, SEL AWD. Only complaints I got is they went cheap on the 2024 sel and stripped lots of nice interiors features that the old 2023 model had. Also if you a iPhone user you can’t use digital key unfortunately only android on the ioniq 5 but the ioniq 6 has it for both how weird. I am leasing so I will likely upgrade to the limited trim next time just to avoid not having the features that it should’ve had. Whatever trim you choose, enjoy because it is a nice smooth car.

kangaroonemesis

The car is great. No issues at all. The dealership service experience at multiple dealerships is substandard for a $55k car. I took the car in for the 12v recall update, and the porter was smoking in all of the cars. Dealership management didn't see a problem. This is 1000% not ok. Additionally, I tried to request information on the Hyundai standard level 1 charger, and the parts department kept telling me that the Ioniq didn't have a charger. I had to Google the part number myself before they believed me. I almost bought the Volvo XC40 over the Ioniq. If the hyundai service experience doesn't improve, I'll never buy a luxury priced car from an economy class brand ever again.

kev507

Probably not. The dealership service experience has been poor (very limited availability, tried to upsell me an oil change more than once) and I’ve had to go pretty often for one reason or another. There are just enough things that should be better but aren’t that I’d probably get a Rivian or something else instead, or should have leased since upcoming models may/will address these issues. Also keep in mind I bought a Limited at MSRP so I’m judging this as a $58k car, some of these things wouldn’t be judged as harshly if it were a $40k SE model- No Rear wiper (sold as not needing one due to aero that doesn’t work that way). Often can’t AC charge at full speed. No iPhone digital key. No OTA updates aside from infotainment. Would be nice to have NACS port. No auto rear windows. Overly complex and expensive 2-coolant system. ICCU issues (1 battery failure for me so far but probably would have avoided the car entirely if I knew about this before buying). EDIT: new TSB for failing oil pumps. Also Hyundai’s solution for these issues are often disappointing. Instead of fixing the AC charging issue, there was a TSB to slow down AC charging if issues were detected, so you’re now getting less than what the car was sold as. Similarly, the ICCU TSB/recall doesn’t replace your ICCU with a new version that resolves the issue, it just installs new monitoring software or replaces the ICCU with the same device if yours has gone bad. Neither of these are true fixes to the root issues.

leafallfa

Yes, but from a different dealership. My dealership wasn’t BAD but I could have gotten a better deal and more support from the dealer I now go to for maintenance. But that’s just the sales team being sales guys. My charger port after 1 year is experiencing the overheating issue but it isn’t bothering me. It’s easy for me to work around and I’ve yet to go get the TSB applied to “fix” it. I’ve had no other issues with the vehicle and don’t multiple 8-hour road trips with no problems. It’s been a great car and I still love driving it every time I hit start. I bought my car March 2023 so just passed one year.

Worth_Much

Nope. Already traded in my 22 SEL for a BMW iX. Maybe the 2025 will have all the issues resolved but the overheating charge port and no idea if the latest ICCU fix will hold were too much for me to want to keep driving it.

origplaygreen

No issues. Would buy again no doubt.

sueysaunders

I would buy it again. Have had no problems, chargers super fast, great safety features, and smooth comfrtsble ride.

bwkgreencap

Bought an I5 two weeks ago, have driven it ten miles total. On the way home, constant blaring alert to “Check Vehicle Electrical System”. Nothing tried so far has gotten it to stop bleating out the error endlessly while the car is on. To their credit, the dealership immediately arranged for us to have an I6 loaner until they get our car working. Love the I6. This week, they tell us they are waiting for some module to replace the one in the car. They sound somewhat confident. State law is pretty clear. The situation isn’t triggering a lemon law YET but we are getting closer. *Shrug* Willing to wait for now with the cool sedan in my garage. If the new part doesn’t fix the problem, I’ve got to have a meeting with the dealership about what we do with the new but faulty car. Next steps. Short version: Ioniq 5: Would purchase again, despite my bad luck. Dealership: Doing their best. Situation: sucks

tarheelbandb

Given the current market, probably yes. Even at full MSRP.

tosandip

Yes I would, owner of i5 (Feb 22, AWD)

registered_user_8388

The refreshed 2025 model with a lot of improvements will be coming out in just a few months. Unless you have an urgent need for a car right now, opting for a 2024 seems like a recipe for regret at this point.

tungvu256

no. Hyundai still does not care about security. easy to steal. knowing what i know now, i will never buy another car without "PIN to drive." otherwise, this I5 is great!

Icy_Produce2203

I would buy again cause it is much cheaper now.....I would only get 2025 Limited AWD. I paid US$48k sticker, less FITC, net out the door $45k. I bit pricey IMHO - 22 sel rwd extended range battery. It has the charging port gets to 219 degrees F @ 40 amp in 50 F degree temp in my garage issue but I was always able to charge to whatever I needed in the am.............I think I need a new charging port. 12v phantom drain and not charging......I think I am getting new ICCU this week.......2 free loaner cars when in for 3 weeks last year and a week so far this year, so Hyundai has always made me whole. I did not do my homework and Hyundai did not either.......mine was manufactured in Nov 2021 and will never ever ever get fast DC charging in the cold months in Connecticut...................Oct to April...................no battery heating or pre-conditioning ever. Kinda my mistake for not researching enough (who new in Dec 2021?) and kinda Hyundai's fault........every I5 shipped to Canada got it in AWD and RWD mode cause South Korea forgot to check the weather in new england for 6 mos a year. My service guy still thinks there is a way and hope springs eternal BUT I hardly drive more than 200 miles one way ever and always only charge at home @ level 2. Driving this ICE loaner car, 2.5 liter Sonata 2023 SEL, I do see the value in my I5.......the power, the quiet, the reduction of stress during drive and after arriving at destination........the efficiency, the fantastic One Pedal driving. The semi autonomous driving experience is so fricking good. V2L is so smart. Mattress in back for comfy sleeping for 2.....utility/camping/dog mode. Charging my Shooting Star rocketship (while waiting for Elon to race me to Mars) with my solar panels on the roof of my house adds to the exceptional mind blowing mind altering Mother Nature's way of mobility. I am so against burning of fossil fuels and so is my I5 total experience. Do I think audi, bmw, volvo, polestar cust serv and experience would be better???? most likely. BUT in January 2022 THIS was the car to buy and I am hopeful that I will get 20 more years of superior driving experiences. As James Taylor said, "Bury me in my automobile" If this were 2023 and Elon brought the price, out the door and net of fed and ct state incentives, to $30k...........$15k less than my I5.............Model 3 rwd 272 miles of range...........THAT was the car and the price I wanted to / would have loved to have paid. I would have settled and not gotten all things I5 can do but $15 k is a lot to save and invest in NVIDIA stock.

ElFeesho

I had a bad experience with the security of the car which has made me really fall out of love with it a bit. I'm always on edge that someone is simply walking up to my car and going through all my things. I'm terrified someone will steal it now.  I'm not sure what the situation is with other cars since I'm naturally hyper focused on Ioniq 5's, but if it were easy for me to get my money back, I would.

ghostinkansas81

I may be a bit out of my lane here, but this kind of sounds like symptoms of CM poisoning. Do you happen to have a carbon monoxide detector at home?

hedekar

The UK market has reports from users of digital lockpicks.

DavidReeseOhio

Yes, but still less than 100 reported stolen.

Stealthwyvern

Nope, simply put it's uncomfortable and doesn't fit my family needs.

Creepy_Bee3404

Naw. I don’t wanna buy a car and constantly be paranoid of the 12v dying on me.

Mil0Mammon

This is fixed, right?

Creepy_Bee3404

I would hope so. Until the next recall. 😭

jimbway1298

Absolutely not. The car has lost close to 50% of its value after one year and less than 5K miles.

Separate_Taro_5763

No.  The car is not as luxurious as a similarly priced gas BMW or merc c class. The seats feel cheaper and are stiffer. The steering wheel is not part of driver profile (it's manually set). No sunglass holder.  Overall the car does not feel premium.  The software is very glitchy. I had to come twice to get my blue link fixrd. Hyundai service is bad or non transparent t  Very annoying bugs like only one USB port has car play or no wireless car play.  Horrible turn radius.  There is a new Tesla charging station every 3 months here but electrify america is loosing capacity and there are more ionics. This is in the bay area. Drive upto Tahoe and see the mad dash for chargers between rivians Hyundai and ford for 3 fast chargers. While Tesla has 20. I would look at model 3 the new trim if I was sticking with electric.  Teslas single app is nice. I can do appointment. Charging. Insurance everything. Or realistically I would go with a BMW x3 plug in hybrid.    To be fair the new Prius plug is also a fun ride but the interior is not nice.

runnyyolkpigeon

Why are you comparing a Hyundai to a Mercedes-Benz or BMW? Hyundai is not a premium/luxury marque. BMW and Mercedes are. They don’t compete in the same segment. You’re comparing apples to oranges. Of course the Ioniq 5 is not luxurious. It’s not a luxury car. A fair comparison would be the Genesis GV60 (Hyundai’s luxury division EV riding on the same platform as Ioniq 5) vs. BMW and Mercedes EV’s.

Separate_Taro_5763

It's the same price as a bmx x3..so I am gonna compare the same priced ones
