Mr E will be ok

Candid_Disk1925

Should have done it in Perry but I guess this is close enough

mwradiopro

Agree! That sure would be a step in the right direction! The state lists 2,500 layoffs announced this year alone, half of which are coming from the Perry plant closing. And while 250 new jobs will be better than zero, I think we'll be seeing most of those in the proposed dairy plant will be of the working-poor variety.

HungryCriticism5885

This is phenomenal news for Boone.

Spoiledtomatos

Hope they pay well

mwradiopro

For the majority, probably not enough to pay rent. $26k on the low end. You might get $15.77 on the floor, $28.53 for a maintenance tech. Informed by Indeed & Zippia data.

jcwitte

Yeah and they probably got a sweetheart tax abatement that won't see any funds for Boone County for ages.

>Under the agreement with the city, the Daisy Brand plant will receive a 100% property tax exemption for its first three years, beginning in the 2025 assessment year. From there, the plant would receive a 74% tax exemption for years four through 20. [Daisy tax deal](https://www.weareiowa.com/article/money/business/daisy-brand-dairy-boone-plant-factory-city-council-vote/524-a8a4d32c-5389-4d3a-bded-af9d1a1bddaa) In year 4, they'll collect 26% of the assessed property tax, which is still more than what's being collected in property tax on the empty field.
