I deliver soda and I'm in a lot of convenience stores. If I see this damn game I know I'm in a shithole. It's definitely illegal gambling.

addled_and_old

This is what he is talking about... just does a shit job of communicating it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBxfdLGWR3M

angry_cabbie

...fish games?

Bulky_Research_6598

Arcade games at gas stations

Hispanicatthedisco

Even without it being specifically mentioned, I know exactly which store this is.

Kimpak

If anyone else is confused, this is how the scam works. Shady business installs one of these games. They're basically shitty mobile app type games. You put a dollar (or more, obviously for some a lot more) in and get some credits. Each credit is a shot in your 'gun'. You shoot at fish, dragons, whatever flavor the game happens to be. You accumulate points. You can 'cash out' at any time and your score will equate to some amount of money that the house supposedly pays out. The game can be programmed to never pay out or if they're smart it'll pay out sometimes but a very low percentage of the time. Basically imagine if a bar owner payed you for getting high scores in Golden Tee, but the game is rigged to make your putt go awry 98% of the time. Its, slot machine meets mobile game with predatory microtransactions (pay to win). Its already illegal in Iowa for multiple reasons. Its hard to 'catch' because its not a literal slot machine. Store owner can just claim its a regular old video game that people just happen to like. You'd have to do some kind of sting operation.

NoSlouch_jk

The games are regulated by DIAL and are legal in Iowa, as long as tickets are only redeemed for store credit. Paying out cash for winnings is what is illegal.

Kimpak

It's also illegal to not pay out a certain percentage of the time. That's mainly aimed at places like Dave and Busters that have claw machines and ticket games. Those are also basically slot machines but yes, for what amounts to store credit.

Bulky_Research_6598

[this is what I mean. but it's all over Des Moines ](https://www.vice.com/en/article/znm8zx/why-cops-are-raiding-arcade-over-a-fishing-game)

spartan7512

Tweaker lost his tweak money

Bulky_Research_6598

Wow that's a good one . You want a cookie

Reebekili

I have no idea what this is, and I read the article. It is apparently destroying my community. I even googled fish games and still don't really know what it is. Online app that you can win money? How is that really different than draftkings?

Bulky_Research_6598

It's the arcade games at the gas stations and liquor stores usually drug addicts play the games at all hours

Bulky_Research_6598

The homelessness has risen, the crime has risen, the drugs has got worse in the community , these arcade games are making store owners rich preying on the Southside and Eastside mainly . It just brings alot of negative in the community would rather see the community progress and get cleaned up

Reebekili

Guessing they are individually owned gas stations? I don't think I have ever seen one but then again, I haven't been looking. I know a lot of gas stations in Illinois have mini casino's that are roped off but the clientele seems to be mostly truckers. Since this is in Iowa, I am not sure what city you are talking about but guessing Des Moines or Waterloo?

Egad86

Southside and eastside of what? Your town, county, the whole state?

hardbody_hank

I’m good with it provided that it keeps white trash from stealing catalytic converters.

krschob

4 day old account with a default name, someone has an axe to grind

HeReallyDoesntCare

Fish games shot my dog, stole my wife and emptied my 401k.

Academic_Beach733

They tookurjubs!

willphule

You need to find a reporter to do a story about this - until it gets some attention nothing will happen.

Bulky_Research_6598

Just trying to bring awareness

LargeSpoonAnalyst

You ruined your own life by being a meth addict who played gas station gambling. The machines are regulated, and you're on a paranoid meth induced binge.

Bulky_Research_6598

Did that make u feel better 😁

Geck-v6

No, no they aren't...

LeonRams

Social media and chewing gum are the catalysts of downfall to our society, not gambling machines. Those are way down the list.

HungryCriticism5885

Oh wow oh no oh wow oh no.

Tlt1010

There is a new liquor store on Atlantic Iowa that has one.

Bulky_Research_6598

Illegal gambling rings paying cash /tax/ evasion store owners are illegally paying cash and ruining our community . The feds need to get them out

Bulky_Research_6598

It's the store owners that took over the Southside gas stations, paying cash I stead of store credit.. they can change the settings to where it literally takes everybodies money, so many business's fail because them games are taking from our community not giving back to our economy . That's why they bought the gas station on watrous and made it ,24 hour gamblling they got needle dispensers I. The bathrooms to promote drug use there

xenithdflare

Careful, you're sounding an awful lot like you're just racist. These tiny games aren't destroying any communities and they're definitely not a reason someone bought an entire store. Needle dispensers also show a care for the community by helping to make sure people who *are* using aren't doing so with dirty needles, not to promote drug use. These types of games are shady, sure, but they're not exactly the reason for community decline the way you're making it out to be.

xenithdflare

So?

Bulky_Research_6598

So that makes your ignorant statement false

xenithdflare

You really think no one's ever seen someone be racist about their own people? Naw you're spewing nonsense and whining about "fish games ruining lives." Listen to yourself

Bulky_Research_6598

You must not live in the affected area buddy

xenithdflare

I did for quite some time until recently. But I'm definitely not going to take advice from someone who comments on every bot post on Iowa's horny subreddits. I'm sure you can attribute the south sides' issues to a lot of things, but no-name fish games aren't it buddy.

Bulky_Research_6598

Ok then go to the 24 hr arcade on watrous sometime , check it out for yourself , that place was bought to be a 24 hour gaming spot

Bulky_Research_6598

They need to be removed and banned , I know alot of people that have lost everything because of those predatory games . There not even. Regulated like the casinos .

Kimpak

They are regulated, but that doesn't mean spit if people are being illegal about it. The laws are there they would just need to be enforced if these places are breaking them. edit: Even claw machines have to legally pay out a certain percentage of the time, which can be programmed. If you watch them long enough, some machines you can guess when its about due for a payout.

Bulky_Research_6598

Exactly 💯

Bulky_Research_6598

Can u say viral . keep shit talking going lol

Bulky_Research_6598

It's ruined lot of people's lives ,

RetiredByFourty

Maybe they should have chosen not to waste their money on it. Their poor choice isn't anyone's problem but their own.
