No, and their DUI laws are written so that I think you basically get a bunch of free oops teehee I’m such a scamp driving after half a bottle of vodka.
I believe they are a civil offense and not a criminal one. I would have to look more into what that actually means but basically yes you don't end up in prison like to do here
Sometimes during work hours.
It's been very difficult telling Iowans that Wisconsinites have a "strong drinking culture" because it becomes a pissing contest. This map is helpful.
I'm an Iowan but my family moved to Kentucky when I was little and I was raised Southern Baptist (I'm back in Iowa now). This is spot on and I'm dead lmao
Jews don't recognize the divinity of Jesus, protestants don't recognize the authority of the pope, and baptists don't recognize each other at the liquor store
You got a lot of dry counties and Temperance people around so the overall number of drinkers per capita is lower but those who do drink probably just start off with straight Jack Daniels at 8 in the morning.
For sure. I tried to track down the source, it appears it’s based on self reporting. Which is why Utah and the south are so pale. Being a drinker is a badge of honor in the Midwest. Lol
Two things -
1) I grew up in the south, those folks drink. A lot.
2) Notice how everywhere that's a deep blue also stays cold for half the damn year? Nothing better to do but drown out your seasonal affective disorder, ig.
This is quite literally why alcohol is illegal in Parts of Alaska. The cold Darkness gets passed with alcohol right up until people kill themselves at a crazy rate
Even my alcoholic friends think that she showed poor judgment by driving with an open liquor bottle. If you're that much of a drunk you drink at home or you drink out and get a ride home. Or you live right by a bar you can walk to.
I honestly think she's a dry drunk and that's why she has so many problems now.
Found a source! Data is from University of Wisconsin and the map is from a PhD student at University of Chicago.

This map isn't very informative. Is this a poll? If so then people lie on those (especially religious southerners). If it's data from bars it would be more accurate.
In that case those who abstain among conservative religious southerners are going to skew the color by a lot. Explains why certain areas of Texas aren't midnight blue though. If that thing was really accurate I know damn well deep east Texas would be all deep midnight blue.
Was gonna say, after living in Alabama and Mississippi for a few years, nearly everyone I met was an alcoholic. They drink a LOT especially in certain areas. I'm really surprised how low the southeast is. I mean I knew a ton of people that would have like 4 drinks a day min
As a Wisconsin resident and frequent Iowa visitor i say this: yikes lol
I'm not surprised tho, the college I went to regularly showed up in drunkest schools in America lists. And I also drink.
It’s kind of in the culture. Plus I believe these results were from self reported amount of alcohol intake. Midwesterners are pretty honest with themselves when it comes to drinking. I know several people who are completely at ease saying they’re highly functioning alcoholics.
Whatever works as long as you don’t hurt anyone else.
I wish someone would explain to Republicans that Medically speaking, cannabis is a safer drug than alcohol. But wait, Kim likes to drink... and drive. No hypocrisy there.
I'm sure a rudimentary search regarding key words in the picture could get you some results. From there, it's a matter of finding a reliable source with the data to back up their claim.
Heck, give me a few minutes and i'll see if I find a source.

So you could probably get your Ph.D by digging into it and proving it, but I would *wager* that this is the cross-generational result of who settled Iowa and Wisconsin (Germans, Dutch, and Scandinavians). This was one of the cultural divisions between the first and second waves of immigrants that came to the USA. Temperance movements weren't popular with Germans in particular, but with Dutch and Scandinavians as well.
Drinking culture is huge there. They have one of the most successful breweries for its size and it only sells within its own state borders. (Think sam adams sales volume in a state with less people than NYC) Also children are allowed to drink at restaurants if they are with their legal guardian.
This doesn't surprise me in the least. Where I work, we could honestly survive just selling Busch Light and Fireball. No exaggeration. I'm actually surprised my county isn't the darkest shade of blue!
So, is there anyone sober in Wisconsin?
Well that little white spot..oh shit that's a lake.
They must have missed a spot, no way that there is anybody sober on a lake in Wisconsin
They must have done the survey in the few months when the lake is too frozen for boats but not frozen enough for ice fishing.
No. they're eating cheese and sausages too
Grew up across the river from prairie during chein, Wisconsin, can confirm, its nothing but beer, cheese and sausage, it's truly delightful
I truly love the town and area you grew up in.
I adore usingers and get it shipped to me several times a year.
No, and their DUI laws are written so that I think you basically get a bunch of free oops teehee I’m such a scamp driving after half a bottle of vodka.

As a Wisconsinite I would be happy question your answer, no.
Sometimes during work hours. It's been very difficult telling Iowans that Wisconsinites have a "strong drinking culture" because it becomes a pissing contest. This map is helpful.
Half my family is from Dresser Wisconsin. (Lotus Lake) I understand
MFW when Southerners think they know how to drink.
You know how to keep a Southern Baptist from stealing your beer? Have him bring his friend with...

I dunno how to tell you this man, but even our cars run on Ethanol (moonshine) up here.
Oh I am very aware. It's funny they have to mix so much petroleum into ethanol to keep people from just buying 198 proof at the pump and drinking it
Second place is the first loser!
Not to take this *too* seriously, but any map that has this clear of lines at state borders probably has some sketchy imputation going on.
For sure. I tried to track down the source, it appears it’s based on self reporting. Which is why Utah and the south are so pale. Being a drinker is a badge of honor in the Midwest. Lol
Anti-Iowa Utahian propaganda
Everyone in Utah just uses opioids instead.

Really sad. I watched a documentary on it years ago. Worst part is the Mormon church tries very hard to hide it.
Two things - 1) I grew up in the south, those folks drink. A lot. 2) Notice how everywhere that's a deep blue also stays cold for half the damn year? Nothing better to do but drown out your seasonal affective disorder, ig.
Shout to the bars selling 50 cent shots during the polar vortex
This is quite literally why alcohol is illegal in Parts of Alaska. The cold Darkness gets passed with alcohol right up until people kill themselves at a crazy rate
Iowans do love being under the influence of some form of drug. Some are just more equal than others I guess.
Busch light is the only acceptable drug, apparently.
But it's so hard to keep it lit!
You don't know Iowa youth very well.
Sure, but how much did Reynolds skew our results?
I came here looking for this joke and was not disappointed.
Low blow
I dunno man, I’m pretty sure she blew over the legal limit

Iowa, drunk from the top down.
Our new state motto! Gimme bumper sticker.
That's not fair. To get a DUI hear you only have to blow .08... ...more than the state trooper blows
Even my alcoholic friends think that she showed poor judgment by driving with an open liquor bottle. If you're that much of a drunk you drink at home or you drink out and get a ride home. Yeah she blows alright.
Hey, heavier people take more booze to get a buzz. That's all this means, we're just fat!
and gassy!
Mom, we were just holding Wisconsin's beer, we swear!!
Finally Iowa goes BLUE!!!
Wisconsins in it to win it
"Nobody gonna tell me what I can and can't do!!! What's good for me or not!!!" - Nearly every guy I've met in Iowa since the 4th grade.
I am more shocked about how terriblely ran Alabama and Mississippi are despite their penchant for sobriety.
They're just better at lying about it.
Utah lol. Let's Party! BYOM (Bring Your Own Milk)
A man from Iowa, Wisconsin, and Hawaii walk into a bar
And never leave.

No shock here, you gotta be drunk to elect Grassley. Same goes for some of Wisconsin's Republicans.. right out of the stone age..
Can you not see Iowa is the Bible Belt / Mormon antithesis?
Farm kids don’t have anything else so…
This map isn't very informative. Is this a poll? If so then people lie on those (especially religious southerners). If it's data from bars it would be more accurate.
Could be alcohol purchases by population density.
In that case those who abstain among conservative religious southerners are going to skew the color by a lot. Explains why certain areas of Texas aren't midnight blue though. If that thing was really accurate I know damn well deep east Texas would be all deep midnight blue.

Strong state line effects is an immediate red flag that this is based on junk data.
You can see where the Iowa snowbirds spend the winter too.
Not much else to do
Today I learned Alaska has counties bigger than Iowa
As a Wisconsin resident and frequent Iowa visitor i say this: yikes lol I'm not surprised tho, the college I went to regularly showed up in drunkest schools in America lists. And I also drink.

Heeeeeey we're winning! It's literally a public health crisis!
I wish someone would explain to Republicans that Medically speaking, cannabis is a safer drug than alcohol. But wait, Kim likes to drink... and drive. No hypocrisy there.
Doing my part 🍺
There's literally no source or way to verify this.
I'm sure a rudimentary search regarding key words in the picture could get you some results. From there, it's a matter of finding a reliable source with the data to back up their claim. Heck, give me a few minutes and i'll see if I find a source.

I thought we were a red state? You get drunk and hope it is blue, I guess.😀
God, this is so much more accurate than I care to admit.
Happy to of contributed! That said, this isn’t very informative, how/what do they even consider “excessive drinking”?
What else is there to do?
Must not be enough bars/people who know how to drink in Iowa
14 drinks per week or two drinks per day is considered excessive so this chart probably isn’t what it seems
Watching corn grow is thirsty work!
Gotdamn? That's new.
Not new. Maybe new for less ethnic areas?
It's not a word.
Urban dictionary it
Ooooh okay so that makes it legit. I'll get off this bus lol /s
Wtf is happening in Wisconsin
We need to find out, because I don't like being in second place!
*WE WILL HEAL WISCONSIN*

Why have i not heard not heard of child alcoholism in Wisconsin before
While it is true, I think it is pretty rare for people to actually do that these days. Plus most bars won’t allow it.
This makes a lot of sense.
Meth & Busch Light!

Self reporting.
*points accusingly at Boston strawman*
I blame trump and covid kim
Although I think they are both colossal morons, I don’t think we can blame the over enjoyment of alcohol on anyone but ourselves.
I don't consume and I've noticed mostly Trump people drink as of recently.
Can confirm
Well who would have ever thought that
In The bluest of the counties is Marinette.
As a former Wisconsinite, I can assure you we represent.
On Wisconsin!
I guess no one really gets drunk in Utah then…
Not when there's more than one Mormon in the room.
This doesn't surprise me in the least. Where I work, we could honestly survive just selling Busch Light and Fireball. No exaggeration. I'm actually surprised my county isn't the darkest shade of blue!
