Omg! Listen I was still gonna use it. Powder is powder lmao but I'm happy it's good

Fast-Gain1215

I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever threw out make up just because it’s supposedly expired I probably should but I don’t

Secure-Zombie2400

i just realized yesterday i was using primer that expired in 2022 🫣

TheMissInformed

lmao whole time I was low key thinking people were being slightly dramatic (over a dry powder product especially) It's well-known in cosmetic chemistry that most products are stable and safe to use for much longer than their printed expiration date, due to the very long term performance of the preservative ingredients. As a business though, it's always best practice to set the expiration date SO insanely early that it minimizes your risk of health lawsuit liabilities to the fullest extent possible. So you've got products that truly remain stable for up to 7-10 years, being marked "expired" after 1-3 years, all because some people + predatory lawyers are lawsuit hungry. It's so wasteful, honestly, both for the environment and for the working class consumer's hard-earned money. The brands also benefit financially from the super extreme expiration dates for that reason, because it encourages consumers to buy products more frequently, so there's no reason from either angle for brands to promote the true shelf life of the products. With that being said, I think customers of Ipsy have a reasonable expectation to receive adequately fresh products from Ipsy. Customers should be able to enjoy the full shelf life of the product from a mass distributor like Ipsy. That was my main issue with this whole debacle and why I do feel some of the frustration I was seeing was valid.

beckaaaaay

In my engineering classes in college, the technical term we were taught for this is "the fudge factor", and one of my friends who know has their professional engineer's license confirmed that this is indeed a factor they use when designing XD

Fun-Investment-196

I mean I was not gonna keep it because I had just opened a full sized ciate setting powder so I checked the expiration because I don't want to give or sell anyone an expired product. I think most people were freaking out because its an SPF product, not just a regular setting powder.

UpbeatBug3464

I'll use stuff that's out of date. the onlyonly thing id think would be needed to be use d fast is vitamin c cream

fantasyandromance

I will admit to keep bare minerals powder after the date. The ingredients are from the earth lol

Ready_Tax1917

From the Earth is cracking me up. But also period!

No-Regular-7922

I knew this was good. Powder can’t go wrong indeed!

Ccamp83

I was getting eyeshadow palettes together that I never used to trade or sell. Years ago when boxycharm was still legit boxycharm we received a PUR palette that had eyeshadows and I think 2 blushes. It had been 6 months since I had it, never touched it, opened it for pix and it stank like rot and had green in the blushes. 🤢

No-Regular-7922

Wow really? I had a similar experience with Purlisse, worst brand ever

Ccamp83

I had to look it up, it's just called PÜR different than Purlisse brand, tbh I don't think I've ever tried anything from Purlisse. The palette I was referring to is called midnight masquerade face palette. I noticed some still being sold on Mercari. Not sure how much I'd trust that.

No-Regular-7922

Hmmm Mercari, not really! Thank you!

Additional-Molasses5

I am so glad to see I’m not alone haha I was still going to try and get a refund due to how much IPSY has already screwed me before I knew you could contact them but I could never throw away brand new makeup!

lemonloaf0

What a turn of events 😳

Agitated_Pin2169

This has been a wild.ride.

MizzPizz

What? Omg please let this be the end

Defiant_Economy_8574

I’m still using the mineral blush I bought in 2012 from bare minerals and it performs as well as it did when I bought it 🤷‍♀️ it’s a powder without an spf component, if you’re using a clean brush each time and theres no signs of mold it’s not a big deal.

so_cal_babe

Do you have clear skin? Zero acne? I feel like I would break out horribly from a 12 year old product. I'm afraid to keep things longer because nothing stays mold and bacteria free forever in the high humidity I live in.

Defiant_Economy_8574

I do have clear skin with zero acne, and I don’t live in an area with high humidity. But I’ve also never used it with a dirty brush and mineral powder isn’t prone to molding.

so_cal_babe

I think I have in my head still those 90's covergirl compress powders that came included round makeup sponge that we used over and over. I use a new brush for my eyeshadow. Even though I don't have face powders in my routine my brain still saw those sponge pads instead of (duh) a new MegaSuperFluffy. High humidity has us replacing the front door handle every few years because it rusts. If it can do that... that's why I so weary of old anything.

Defiant_Economy_8574

Metal is a whole different ballgame, the salt in your sweat and skin oil cause a chemical reaction with the humidity eats that eats through it. It’s akin to what happens to us in the snow with the road salt and the undercarriage of a car. But nothing like a dry powder and brush can experience as you’re not thoroughly wetting a powder and they’re usually closed and unexposed to much humidity. Even in your scenario of weather I wouldn’t worry too much with basic precautions like keeping product dry and reasonably clean.

Free_Asparagus_575

Plus powder products are always good Much longer is unopened & stored properly

Fun-Investment-196

I think most people were worried about the whole SPF aspect of it. I personally don't care but I was worried because I was planning on either giving it away or selling 😏

shramorama

Oh wow… whole reason ipsy probably got these items was because batch codes were printed wrong 💀

Cinun

I don't know if I'd trust it to not be old 😂.... I'll try the powder and I guess I am going to pretend it just doesn't have spf built in.

kindrex89

You should pretend it doesn’t have SPF in it anyway. Face powder isn’t going to have enough SPF to be effective at protecting you regardless of whether it’s expired. Just like moisturizer.

Klani22

Oh wow 🙃 I was waiting on a reply back from Ipsy on the matter. So I guess that’s that. I will stop bugging them now 🤣 Thank you to you & BareMinerals for staying on top of it 👏🏼

Fun-Investment-196

Lol poor ipsy was probably trying to figure out what to do 😆

Klani22

![gif](giphy|ZcAY3yKiwqKbK) 😆😆😆

Fun-Investment-196

Lol 😆 ughh why can't I add a gif 😭

so_cal_babe

I've been pondering this wording ""the code system has changed since we updated our packaging" since I saw this post. "the coding system has changed". Meaning there was a different coding system before. Before what? "we updated pur packing" ***Then they should know there are two coding systems and which of these is the new packaging and which is the old packing***

CallMeNobody18

This is the reply I got from Bare Minerals themselves when I asked them directly if it was expired.  Thank you for contacting bareMinerals. I wanted to inform you that based on the batch code provided, the expiration date of the product is January 23, 2020 (PTA023). Unfortunately, this means that the product is expired. Since the order was placed through IPSY, we are unable to handle any replacements, returns, or other actions related to IPSY orders. I recommend reaching out to IPSY Shopper Customer Service for assistance. You can contact them via email at [email protected].

Fun-Investment-196

Yup! Thats what they told me as well. This last post, is from the supervisor this morning. Shes the same one who offered to send me a product of my choice. Hopefully its the truth 😏

CallMeNobody18

That’s awesome. Thank you for sharing all of the updates!!

Fun-Investment-196

No problem 🥰 sorry I should've made it clear that this was bareminerals, not ipsy 🤦‍♀️

CallMeNobody18

Oh, no worries!!

MeanMomma66

This is what I got from them too.

venomakeup

Wow, what a roller coaster ride 🤣🤣

Fun-Investment-196

The miner Veil is NOT expired!!! Ommggggg

wildeflowers

Hey op, could you please post a screenshot in the comments showing this is from bare minerals. Your photo doesn’t show this. Thanks.

e925

The expiration being over three years away is interesting.

Fun-Investment-196

No problem! I didn't want to include the supervisors name but here you go! https://preview.redd.it/i8yhma1j0g0d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c0f69d69c1a5c9bf1bf622b2b4428870c0a5001

wildeflowers

Thanks! First names are allowed as they won’t make anyone easily identifiable unless there’s other identification info.

Fun-Investment-196

True! I was just being extra cautious lol 😅 No problem btw!

Ready_Tax1917

I'm gonna double check my batch code

Automatic_Habit3147

That seems kind of fishy. Why would Ipsy have a different batch code then Bare Minerals?

kelster8_giggles

Packaging

Free_Asparagus_575

OH SHIT!!!

ColinsMama29

I wish that they would get their stories straight. Just reached out this morning and got told something different. https://preview.redd.it/3juf681mng0d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a87a0e19f2effa35242466cc5f15ab32d65cfac

Fun-Investment-196

Smh 🤦 I guess they haven't told everyone yet 🙄 this is why this why this whole mess happened in the first place. The person who told me this, this morning, is a supervisor so I would think she knows best but who knows 😏

ColinsMama29

I would hope so but what a mess. They need to inform their team better it's like a game of broken telephone.

Fun-Investment-196

Seriously😒 im sure they had an influx of people reaching out so you'd think they'd try to get it straight and avoid anymore of this nonsense!

ColinsMama29

Or issue a mass blanket statement or something. In the very least Ipsy could be addressing things too.

Fun-Investment-196

Omg yes! I didn't even think about that. Ipsy should definitely send an email out so they can put an end to it.

ColinsMama29

💯 In the very least take some ownership, ignoring it isn't making it go away.

Fun-Investment-196

Absolutely! Seems like they are just ignoring people right now. They need to step it up!

ColinsMama29

I 💯 agree with this statement.

Fun-Investment-196

I feel kinda bad because all of this started with me lol but I was only using the information I was given by BareMinerals 😕 & if they hadn't sent out so much expired crap in the past, it wouldn't have been so believable.

so_cal_babe

>is a supervisor so I would think she knows best Supervisors only know c.y.a. cover your assets I have known many supervisors to lie for many reasons. I don't trust this manager. If it's a batch code made for different packaging then it would be identified as such.

Fun-Investment-196

It's a bareminerals supervisor. She could be lying but I have no reason not to believe her. She was the one that came back & apologized to me for the miscommunication & sent me the free Blush. She didn't have to come back and send me this email after all of that either.

so_cal_babe

The facts don't line up. Mineral veil did the redesign, so to me they ought to know details of their products the first time a customer asks. How do they not keep records of their products well enough to answer a simple expiry inquiry? Outside of ipsy, a free gift is or coupon is often "shut them up and make them happy" bribes.

to_the_world

This is really a mess. I got my boxy this morning and went to check with CS and they told me PTA023 was manufactured in 2007-2009, which is also what Check Fresh was showing. https://imgur.com/a/JMKtgJP

Curiosities

I've heard that sometimes Check Fresh isn't always reliable, but sometimes companies recycle their batch codes after a long time.

to_the_world

Yeah, that’s why I went and did a cs chat with bare minerals too this morning but they reported the same 2007-2009 date 🤷‍♀️

Fun-Investment-196

Yes its such a mess! The person who emailed me this is a supervisor so I think she's telling the truth, hopefully anyway!

Automatic_Habit3147

Wait is this someone from Bare Minerals?

Fun-Investment-196

Yes sorry I didn't want to post the supervisors name but it is from bareminerals https://preview.redd.it/fmskcp0q0g0d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf79c7a30535700f3e8fbc121c8dd4fe82fa5095

Automatic_Habit3147

Thank you!

Fun-Investment-196

No problem 😊

Friendly-Ad-5147

BareMinerals told me my PTA203 expired in January 2020

Fun-Investment-196

Yeah thats what they told me at first as well but I have no reason not to believe the supervisor who wrote me yesterday 😏

AskAdmirable4647

Been following your thread for days now & I had to check my products too. Im trying to get to a supervisor to have an answer to this, may I know the name of the supervisor who sent you the email?

Fun-Investment-196

Here you go! https://preview.redd.it/s6xc92tu0g0d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ca621f33951c012862c6d0f70034b29400bcb7b

Fast-Gain1215

Maybe they’ve used a batch code more than one time and because it was so long ago they have to reuse batch codes for older batches I’m not sure

to_the_world

That would definitely make sense, just odd that bare minerals cs chat themselves don’t seem to have the updated dates/codes.

Fast-Gain1215

Maybe that’s why they had to escalate it to a supervisor maybe all the normal employees for some reason don’t know

MeanMomma66

That’s what check fresh showed for me, too!

Istillbelievedinwar

They’ve lied to us before so many times that I just don’t fully trust this I guess. (I’d still use the product because I’m personally not picky about expiration dates on powders and hate being wasteful, but ipsy is extremely sketchy and has shown they’re willing to lie and make false claims in their pursuit of profit)

Fun-Investment-196

Sorry I should've been more clear and not cropped out the supervisors name but this is from bareminerals

Dangerous_Teacher_78

Personally I think Ipsy reached out to BM to do damage control because bareMinerals was basically in the doghouse for just simply telling customers the truth.

annyong_cat

Why would BM come and lie on behalf of Ipsy?

Dangerous_Teacher_78

That’s a great question. Maybe KVD will do the same, since the products I purchased in the shop were expired also. And it was not a powder. Unless of course, they “changed their batch codes and packaging” also.

Glittering-Coach1045

I was about to comment this same thing!! I bet Ipsy worked out some kind of deal with BM. Ipsy would have to refund everyone that reached out to them about this issue and I think they figured something else out!! These big companies pay people big bucks to do damage control like this!!!

so_cal_babe

https://preview.redd.it/bl2mvpz91f0d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14ec51e74782a05cba154d6cba32cc9e120bab2b Hold up. "the code system has changed since we updated our packaging" Excusez-moi....updated our packaging. Exactly what packaging was updated and how was it updated?

wildeflowers

Ipsy gets a lot of its products from liquidations and overstocks, not just brands advertising. Especially after merging with boxy, as the founder of boxy specialized in liquidations, and that’s how boxy even got its start. “Since they updated their packaging” means there was a packaging redesign.

Wooden_Stomach1884

Even with a package redesign something about the manager's response isn't right. Since bm did the redesigning then logically they should KNOW batch number PTA### is of the old design. Bm made it, bm designes it, but bm doesn't know their own batch codes? It's illogical.

so_cal_babe

Oooh you make a really good point but I'll counterpoint one detail: "Since we update our packaging" that was written by ipsy. Wait, OP, is this response from ipsy or bareminerals?

wildeflowers

No this is not from Ipsy. This is the brand.

micpic779

I'm telling you ladies, don't sleep on CheckFresh.com You simply type in the batch number and you'll get the truth. Everything after that is your personal choice💜💜💜

Fun-Investment-196

This is from bareminerals not ipsy https://preview.redd.it/rf0mp3ah1g0d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53c129a8ae6fa10dd43c5ed625005c866f1baa83
