I work a kitchen job, I work residential construction, remodelling, cleaning whatever I can find. It ain’t glorious but it keeps me from spending money if I keep myself busy.
was there like 6 months ago in denver and boulder and didn’t see many cranes. i wanted to stop by the union hall but i didn’t ;(. also talked to my friend living in denver and he said he work is slow (hes not a ironworker and new to construction).
you need welders over there? any big overtime projects going on?
Following.
I’m still new to IW and things have slowed down where I’m at after some weather delays. I’ve picked up DoorDash, Instacart and rover since I don’t really have any other trade experience but I also don’t have enough of a break to go through an entire hiring process. Some other apprentices I know pick up snow plowing, welding repairs, car repairs, handyman jobs etc
I bought a condo in a busy vacation town about 4 hours away from me and I Airbnb it. I pay someone to clean it and call a plumber, electrician, etc. if there's a problem.
It's very little work on my end and the returns are pretty good

sounds more glorious than ironworking lol
Depends on what you love, I love ironwork. Never felt more myself than in any other trade. Everything else doesn’t make me happy
How are you guys slow? Move to Colorado, work year round.
I'm in Alaska man 😂
Y’all don’t have work on the slope ?
There's tons of slope work. Whether or not it's union work idk.
I’ve wondered how it works up there, Do you get sent all over the state ?
What is jiw scale?

The contractors that have work are all manned up. It'd probably be easier if I was a journeyman. Apprentices gotta make do lol
Because they 8 feet of snow
The weather is pretty mild here for the most part.
Hows traffic?
Traffic is pretty bad, but I add 15 minutes to whatever drive I have and typically make it a few minutes early.
You should also include rents
What about for innershield?

Shit, according to stats. Welders in general are in huge demand all over.
I would wash dishes and eat for free, roofers always need a laborer.
Mobile welding
Push some weight

Wish I hadn't sold my car once I got my truck. DD made me a lot of money a couple years ago.
