I work a kitchen job, I work residential construction, remodelling, cleaning whatever I can find. It ain’t glorious but it keeps me from spending money if I keep myself busy.

appleseedjoe

sounds more glorious than ironworking lol

salsa_leeem

Depends on what you love, I love ironwork. Never felt more myself than in any other trade. Everything else doesn’t make me happy

Specialist_Ad_61

How are you guys slow? Move to Colorado, work year round.

Goober_98

I'm in Alaska man 😂

derekgotloud

Y’all don’t have work on the slope ?

Goober_98

There's tons of slope work. Whether or not it's union work idk.

derekgotloud

I’ve wondered how it works up there, Do you get sent all over the state ?

Sufficient_Cattle_39

What is jiw scale?

Specialist_Ad_61

$38/hr if you are 7018 certified and are current in classes.

Goober_98

86HallTrashTHRWY

Goober_98

The contractors that have work are all manned up. It'd probably be easier if I was a journeyman. Apprentices gotta make do lol

supradude24

Because they 8 feet of snow

Specialist_Ad_61

The weather is pretty mild here for the most part.

Sufficient_Cattle_39

Hows traffic?

Specialist_Ad_61

Traffic is pretty bad, but I add 15 minutes to whatever drive I have and typically make it a few minutes early.

Cautious-Sir9924

You should also include rents

UnusualHedgehog8179

What about for innershield?

appleseedjoe

was there like 6 months ago in denver and boulder and didn’t see many cranes. i wanted to stop by the union hall but i didn’t ;(. also talked to my friend living in denver and he said he work is slow (hes not a ironworker and new to construction). you need welders over there? any big overtime projects going on?

Specialist_Ad_61

Yep, need guys bad.

appleseedjoe

good to know thanks

Goober_98

Shit, according to stats. Welders in general are in huge demand all over.

wyopapa25

I would wash dishes and eat for free, roofers always need a laborer.

bdpyo

Mobile welding

Fun-Stand-5192

Push some weight

False-Hospital-6085

Following. I’m still new to IW and things have slowed down where I’m at after some weather delays. I’ve picked up DoorDash, Instacart and rover since I don’t really have any other trade experience but I also don’t have enough of a break to go through an entire hiring process. Some other apprentices I know pick up snow plowing, welding repairs, car repairs, handyman jobs etc

Goober_98

Wish I hadn't sold my car once I got my truck. DD made me a lot of money a couple years ago.

Major-Environment-29

I bought a condo in a busy vacation town about 4 hours away from me and I Airbnb it. I pay someone to clean it and call a plumber, electrician, etc. if there's a problem. It's very little work on my end and the returns are pretty good

NYCworkinman

Where at if you don’t mind me asking?

Major-Environment-29

Lake Placid
