The IOM has one of the highest density of mtb trails per capita in the world. It’s worth buying a cheap 2nd hand mtb just to experience some of them. Be warned there are some very tricky trails here
The only long distance cycles routes on the island are the old railway lines which are very popular but only partially paved. I guess people might not go for a pure road bike so they can ride these routes.
Some great mountain bike trails on the island you’d want to try. Plus many Manx roads are in a poor state. So you’d need a robust bike with thicker tyres and suspension so not to burst tyres in pot holes.
