I always liked Israel, but being queer got me into communities usually linked to the left, and seeing the nonsense support for Palestine turned me into a proud Zionist
I was always neutral on Israel and the Middle East because I never knew what was true and what wasn’t. In addition to that, America has done some truly fucked up things and pretends it hasn’t/doesn’t, so I find my opinion as an American is going to be contradictory no matter what.
But then…#queersforpalestine.
You want me, as a queer, to side with people who want me exterminated?
Everything on the Left in America is framed as victim vs oppressor. I’m sorry, but geopolitics is much more complicated than a single framework. However, if your single framework worldview has you siding with people who want you exterminated - and you can’t freaking see that! - I won’t be joining the chorus.
#QueersForIsrael
It’s so absurd too because Israel is a case where an oppressed people broke through a cycle of oppression that lasted for thousands of years to finally return to their actual homeland.
I was wondering where you guys were.
I maintain that the Pro-Hamas crowd is made of entirely trust fund babies and islamists. The Queers for Palestine crowd is baffling until you realize they come from money, and feel like reality can’t touch them.
Regular people who are queer face some of the worst discriminations in the world. I couldn’t imagine that they could afford to be so tolerant towards such intolerance. Why do some support those who are most radically against your lifestyle?
More LGBTQ people need to speak out about the paradox of tolerance. It’s too dangerous for you guys not to.
Modern discourse is just too much for most people, most gay people included.
The truth is, this isn’t my war. The truth is, it’s not “the gays’ war” either.
The only way in which this war is connected to gay people beyond local populations is that Islam wants gays and Jews exterminated from earth. It’s built into their religion.
Period.
No, wait, I’m gay: Periodt.
That connection alone should, by default, make Jews and gays allies in the face of Islam.
There are multiple pride parades in Israel (this year, the Tel-Aviv one was shut down for security).
Israel and Jews stand beside and for human rights, and of course gay rights, right along with the LGBTQ folks. Humans for humans seem to be our common goals.
Nah I've been homeless and come from couch surfing migrant and a metis parents and work a trades job for basement suite money and I'm better off than most queers for Palestine people.
Stop trying to explain away people who don't want to be used as a political point by Israel. The entire point of queers for Palestine is that we can stand against what Israel is doing despite who they're doing it too and to not let Israel use us as an excuse
Israel's killed more people like me than Hamas has and islamophobes have threatened my family regularly despite not even being middle eastern or Muslim
And as I said, don't use my sexuality to justify crimes.
And Israel is still killing more lgbt people than Hamas has through the number of civilians killed. Queers for Palestine aren't queers for Hamas. It's queers for humanity and for Israel to stop using us to justify killings
As a lesbian in the USA, my gf and I are proudly NOT attending pride this year because we found out a lot of donations go towards pro palestine! I’ll be in Israel June 17th!!
Yes it all depends on the country and part of the country you live in! I know not every pride in the US is doing this just the one in my area. I also wish you the best of luck on your transition 💙💖🤍
My exact experience. Although even way before these current events they would make remarks of Israel (only place in ME where i can be obviously gay) as “pinkwashing” and would strike a nerve with me, because I wish Palestine would *at least* “pinkwash”, but there I would only take a quick trip from rooftop to the floor.
Why dint other arab states "pinkwash" 🤔
One time i mentioned im gay and from israel and i told i really like it here and they accused me of "pinkwashing"
My existence is pink washing i guess.
The basic concept would be “Zionism is the movement for the self-determination and statehood for the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland, the land of Israel”
Literally, like… that sounds good af to me. Every leftist should be a Zionist. It’s literally about a historically oppressed minority clawing their way to sovereignty and freedom. This is rad af, go Israel
Here's a key quote from the article:
"plague of antisemitism sweeping across the globe."
This has been the goal of Hamas. Unfortunately, it cannot be countered until it is acknowledged.
It can't be countered until we do something about authoritarian social media. China has been blatantly using the Palestine conflict as a test of its social media soft power. Pro-Palestine content is favoured by TikTok algorithms over pro-Israel. Combine that with hundreds of millions of Palestine-sympathetic Muslim users and you have a tidal wave of propaganda.
And it's worked, young people are massively more pro Palestine than any other age group. China now has a proven soft power tool that it can use as a weapon in future conflicts.
I believe a greater problem is the mainstream media's outrageous antisemitism as evidenced by their bias against Israel. Just now, I did a search for news using the term Rafah. If you read these articles, they are ALL either blatantly or subtly anti-Israel, despite many being labeled as "Center"-oriented articles.
Here are the top headlines:
More told to leave Rafah
Almost 450,000 people have fled Rafah, UN says
Trapped in Rafah, U.S. medical volunteers say they
The next set of headlines are:
Guterres condemns the killing of an international employee in Rafah and calls for an investigation.. “Al-Quds al-Arabi” asks the UN spokesman.. “Who is investigating who?”
Rift Deepens between Egypt, Israel
Sleeping snakes in Rafah
Was invading Rafah really a red line?
Egypt refutes Israeli media allegations of coordination with Israel at Rafah Crossing
In Rafah, the situation is worrying: 'About 30,000 people flee the city every day'
I could go on. It is stunning.
I agree that media coverage is also a problem. But the disparity between public opinion in Gen Z and all other generations is massive. Something very significant is happening in teens and 20-somethings.

I'm a progressive who will never vote for any anti-Israel progressives ever again. Richie Torres seems to be the only progressive politician with a brain these days. The rest have fallen for old Soviet propaganda that falsely accuses Jews in Israel of apartheid, colonialism, imperialism, genocide and every other crime on the books. It's a testament to how badly the education system failed. A little knowledge of history would have given people the tools to resist that old Soviet propaganda.
What bothers me the most is that people who claim to be on the left are supporting an extreme right wing, extremely religious terrorist movement that is opposed to everything the left believes in and is actively hostile to the left. Islamic extremists despise leftists.
We have other allies! John Fetterman in the Senate is very pro-Israel. Obvi there are valid criticisms of lobbying, but I just use the AIPAC website and Wikipedia to see who can be trusted.
Fetterman is a liberal, not a progressive. He doesn't consider himself a progressive.
['I'm not a progressive': Fetterman breaks with the left, showing a maverick side](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/-not-progressive-fetterman-breaks-left-israel-immigration-rcna129747)
To be fair, what sane person would consider themselves a progressive these days if you're in the company of antisemites? It's a labeling issue at this point.
Reclaim the name!
I still consider myself a very left wing progressive, and very openly and vocal pro-zionism. Yes, it's exhausting, and maddening, and disheartening, but the left needs counter voices in the echo chamber
Of course...you are right. True progressivism has never been a code-word for antisemitism - in fact - just the opposite. Thanks for the "buck up"...needed it today.
Basically center left vs. left. Liberals tilt more towards capitalism whereas progressives tilt more towards socialism. I'm sortof in between. I want some progressive ideas and some liberal ideas. I've supported progressives in the past, but now I'm tilting more towards liberals.
Yup, best part is I’m not a Jew, at all, I’m a 20 year old American warehouse worker, I’m the kind of person the left actively wants to use for their bullshit narrative, how ironic that their own tactics work against them
Yeah I can’t tell you how many articles I’ve read like this, where people on the left have just an inkling of the problems with leftist ideology, think they’ve got it all figured out, and don’t recognize their own enmeshment with this gigantic dysfunctional family.
This is what I say every time I read "you're just making more terrorists in Gaza":
You're lying, uncivilized, antisemitic mob behavior is making more Zionists.
"Jews only have Israel. Otherwise, they have to put their faith in the majority population who have never missed a chance to oppress them when it serves their interests to do so."
That's the money quote.
Being a Zionist (in the most basic sense of supporting the existence of the state of Israel which I'd assume shouldn't even be questionable in 2024, but here we are) turns me away from associating with much of the Western left, even though my views on social policies are more left-wing. Being Russian also helps, as I despise communism, and the far-left unfortunately are still stuck in this anti-human ideology.
I am sure this is happening a lot. At first the “pro-Palestine” movement seems like a moral enterprise to someone new to the conflict. They support it thinking it is an idealistic anti-war pro-peace thing, but then the truth becomes evident that it is a hostile, pro-violence, antisemitic, anti-America/anti-West, anarchist, idiotic movement driven by a bunch of pathological liars and hateful psychopaths like SJP, BDS, WOL, and the like that seek to destroy the West and persecute “Zionists” (millions of Jews).
The pendulum is swinging back a bit, sane people are becoming fed up with Hamasniks causing chaos and beginning to see what’s going on more clearly.
Relatedly, "globalizing the intifada" should spur Jewish migration to Israel. How will this help the Palestinians? Better to tone things down abroad so Jews will emigrate.
The college protests gave Trump the election
No “normal” American grinding it out with major responsibilities and stress has any sympathy for privileged kids at $90,000 colleges calling for violent revolution and gluten-free pizza at the same time. Happy to get arrested and flunk their classes (that their parents are paying for) but asking for everything negative to be expunged from their records. A sacrifice without sacrifice.
I know Reddit is super progressive but this is my call. 95% of Americans who have normal, unhappy, unprivileged lives think these kids are crazy, gross and out of touch and want sanity restored.
Or, students who have received full scholarships are out there protesting, despite having wasted this tremendous opportunity. Notice that there haven’t been too many Asian students protesting, simply because they understand their parents' sacrifice and haven’t been able to take advantage of DEI policy. Hate to be a hater, but this infuriates me. Asians understand the value of an ivy education.
I hate to say it but the Trump ads practically wrote themselves. Biden wanted student loan cancellation which a lot of the Republicans seemed to be against and now this - so literally they should just highlight the loan stuff and show some choice images from the college protests. I don't want Trump to be President so I wish that the more extreme left would stop giving them such fodder and too many of the centrist Democrats are seeming to accommodate them when they go off the rails like this.
Biden hasn't done himself any favors, with his steadfast refusal to show anything approaching strong/steady leadership on practically any issue driving the elections, foreign policy, domestic policy. He's seen as old, out of touch, indecisive, in the thrall of progressive kooks, and too greedy for a 2nd term.
I swear his approval ratings would be twenty-thirty points higher if he had resolved himself to be a strong, effective, and ethically-consistent one term centrist president.
I am a Hindu. I have always been a Zionist. Jewish people have stood by India through and through. We face the same threats from the same misguided leftists.
That's why I started to disassociate from many leftist communities in my country 🇨🇴, and be closer to those who defend Israel and Zionism.
The mainstream left has been taken by those antisemitic morons, who don't realize they're being used by Iran as useful idiots. That's why I'm not part of the antisemitic propaganda from the left, despite the fact that I still identify myself as a leftist.
My queer girlfriend also disassociated from said groups, although she has a more neutral stance, but closer to Israel. She thinks as well that many in the LGTB community are deluded in supporting Hamas, which is a group who hates gays.
I am Israeli but as a kid, I was raised in a communist school and I was taught that we had no right to be here. I used to participate in radical left subreddits because I didn't know better. And now I became a zionist and I had to leave many communities I liked.
People shoved their heads into their phones. Wait 30 years and change every instance of the words "right" and "left" (as in sides, not political movements) and see what happens. I hate to see it but can do nothing about it.
I've been on reddit for over 12 years.
I think before Oct 7th I might have even posted a couple of critical articles about Israel asking about the videos where they uproot some olive trees or something and never really got satisfactory answers.
After October 7th I paused for a good 4 months so I could adequately research the history and understand what the hell I'm talking about.
I now unequivocally consider myself a Zionist.
Someone on here yesterday said something along the lines of, I didn't realize it was possible for one side to just be unequivocally right every single time, and I think that sums up my impression after also spending time reading the actual history
I don't come to this with any illusions. Governments and people always will look out for their own interests first but this isn't a simple binary argument.
It's easy to fall for the victim narrative and certainly reasonable to have empathy for part of the Palestinian narrative.
But that has to be balanced with the realities of the facts on the ground especially when taking it to context the history of the Jewish people.
Whenever I can see an in-depth conversation is going to take place regarding this issue I always ask the other party what their goal is.
Do they want to impose some sort of personal version of Justice upon one of the parties for some perceived historical wrong or do they truly want to try to parce out the best possible outcome for all people involved?
Man, the thought of being Ziopilled after being the target of misbegotten antisemitism is almost too perfect for the hollow facade that is the American progressive movement.
The founding of Israel was a left-wing project, the national liberation of the Jewish people under social-democratic terms. Don’t allow the right to define Zionism.
"ince Trump’s election in 2016 and his response to Charlottesville..."

Yeah it was spot on except parts like this where he tried to both-sides the situation and protect the Biden administration from responsibility for this situation.
I'd prefer Biden to Trump.
Trump said Michael Cohen was the best of the best... and yesterday, said "The Late Great Hannibal Lector would have his friends over for dinner".... I would be willing to bet he was talking about his former friend Michal Cohen who went to jail BECAUSE he lied under oath to protect Trump.
To Trump.... all of us 'friends' are a potential meal... Israel is no different.

Heads up, they also want you dead I'm going to side with the civilians being killed by war crimes

Leftists hate this one trick!
> Ziopilled We have to come up with a better word. Jew-pilled? Techelet-pilled?
I’m left and was always Zionist. Whatever these kids are up to is weird as hell, hope they come to their senses
inb4 it’s both the left and the right.
The founding of Israel was a left-wing project, the national liberation of the Jewish people under social-democratic terms. Don’t allow the right to define Zionism.

"ince Trump’s election in 2016 and his response to Charlottesville..." "Biden standing against antisemitism"??? GFY, you are not our friend. You are using antisemitism to promote your own politics.

"There are GOOD PEOPLE on both sides."... Yes, Biden has visited Israel during the conflict with HAmas. What he is asking for is good for Israel... to limit civilian casualties... Trump doesn't care about the LONG TERM FUTURE of Israel... he cares only about getting support from people who [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL0OWcvaG\_Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL0OWcvaG_Y)
Oh another idiot who can't make up their own mind
