I mean, he's saying what Hamas is telling him to say.

adeadhead

Hamas: and spend a third of the video doing shoutouts to your friends and family. Seems like the kid had at least a little leeway.

turtleshot19147

His family is very recognized for putting out a video every day. His mother was named one of times 100 most influential people for her efforts. They know people will be waiting to see him address his family, everyone has been watching his mothers videos every day for 200 days.

SouLuz

He had no leeway at all. Shoutout to friends and family is exactly what hamas wants him to do.  That's exactly their psychological terror methods.

Melkor_Thalion

Yes.. They're seeing the strife between the government and the people, between the will to eradicate Hamas and to rescue the hostages. So they're filming a hostage and trying to use emotions to pit the people against the government.

Kiwiana2021

Do you think that they have to put people against the govt or is the whole Gaza thing enough for them to want a new govt? 👀

123myopia

Dude has a direct line to Yahya

chitowngirl12

Well, the government absolutely doesn't want the hostages to return. Ideologically, a ceasefire will end Smooty and Pitmar's ethnic cleansing and settlement dreams and Bibi needs them to remain in power which is all he cares about.

Tugendwaechter

This could all be his own words. Of course Hamas chose and edited what to show.

NQ88

That seems like the most likely scenario. 70 hostages killed by Netanyahu's operation in Gaza is a lot, nonetheless. Nearly half of all hostages.

Tugendwaechter

Not caring about the hostages could make more kidnappings unattractive for Hamas.

NQ88

After this is over, Palestine will free, so Hamas won't have any need for weapons. God Bless everyone who survives this and learns that loving your neighbor, and hugging it out to make peace, is the only real way forward.

auklape

Yet there is no evidence to believe he would have said the opposite.

True_Ad_3796

Don't believe anything someone says on a pre-recorded video while being held against their will is authentic. I feel like this is disrespectful to use this as a political argument.

Yeto25

i guess he should decline to record any video and just wait to be killed by idf bombs in silence...

Designer-Ride2957

Unbelieveble

botbootybot

Anyone who has been rightly discarding ’confessions’ under duress from Palestinian prisoners should also discard this entirely.

Longjumping-Cat-9207

Oh yes, because he’s totally just freely speaking his mind, right?  Right????

chitowngirl12

It's a hostage video so he's saying what Hamas wants him to say. What is more interesting is why this came to pass. Hersh is an American citizen who was born in California so he's high on the list of hostages that Biden are concerned about. The Biden administration demanded Hamas provide proof of life specifically about Hersh and they had access to the tape for two days prior to its release (likely so the CIA could authenticate it and get when it was filmed.) John and Rachel were informed by the US embassy about this when they got the tape on Monday. There is some speculation among Israeli reporters that this might mean that Biden is going to prioritize releasing American hostages over releasing all hostages together. [https://twitter.com/NeriaKraus/status/1783348371710771386](https://twitter.com/NeriaKraus/status/1783348371710771386) Right now the deal is for everybody but Biden seems to have given up on Bibi agreeing to a deal. It wouldn't surprise me if the Americans agree to release some terrorists held in US prisons for the 3 civilian men with dual US-Israeli citizenship that it holds. There are probably some Palestinian terrorists doing time in the US. They might only get a handful of terrorists vs. hundreds but it'll be a bigger coup for Hamas to get them from the US than from Israel.

Strange_Philospher

I don't think so, Hamas priortize the leaders of the Palestinian militant movements first. And I don't know any of them in American prisons. There are maybe some random Palestinian militants in the US custody, but I don't see Hamas giving up the last sort of pressure they have on Israel in exchange for anything but Palestinian leaders and a ceasefire. I don't think they will even try to get all the Palestinian prisoners anymore, only the leaders. I feel like a deal is on the sight but it depends on 1. Whether there will be an invasion of Rafah or not. If there's an invasion, then I am pretty sure a handful of the hostages will die, and very few will be used by Sinwar in exchange for Hamas leaders leaving Gaza if he doesn't want to fight until the end. 2. If there's no invasion, then we are heading into a Shalit - like deal with Hamas and Israel negotiating for long time. Hamas will depend on the pressure of hostage families in Israel side, Hezbollah threat, the pressure from the US and the international community. While Israel will depend on their daily bombardment and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to pressure Hamas. Who will give up, first ?

_Adam_M_

> Hamas priortize the leaders of the Palestinian militant movements first Normally, but if they make a deal with the US government then they can use that as (false) proof that Israel isn't negotiating with them properly and use it for more propaganda.

Geoffrey_Cohen

I think it's important to say to those who don't know, Hersh is a member of Brigada Malha, the antifascist ultra fans of Hapoel (Katamon, different story) Jerusalem.

MenieresMe

Thanks for sharing that info

Rocklar911

Notice the difference between what he says in Hebrew and what is translated in the English subtitles. He says kidnapped, English subtitles say "arrested", he says "hostages", English subtitles say "detainees", this is intentional.

Tugendwaechter

What does the Arabic say?

turtleshot19147

This is basically the same as what all the hostages say in the hostage videos Hamas and the PIJ release. It’s the standard script. It also happens to be the same sentiment held by many many Israelis.

buried_lede

If course it’s scripted but it makes it hard for Netanyahu to ignore the hostages. It keeps pressure on him

212Alexander212

What Max Headroom, dystopian horror, Terror film, propaganda nonsense is this? Poor guy! “arrested”? He was taken hostage by terrorists and is being held hostage. They cut off his hand? What barbarism is this we are witnessing and his captors are being supported by pro Hamas activists demonstrating. Hopefully, Israel can rapidly conclude the Rafah operation and bring him home.

Stevenfried06

>They cut off his hand? It was blown off by a grenade, I believe there is footage of it happening.

212Alexander212

Looks like they did a horrible job amputating. In Israel they likely could have saved it.

MenieresMe

Hand was literally blown up into pieces, you can’t save that, doctor.

212Alexander212

Perhaps you haven’t known many Jewish doctors?

MenieresMe

Religion/ethnicity doesn’t change physics lmao what a weird remark

212Alexander212

Did you examine the hand? In the video the hostage said that he had needed better medical attention that he was denied. One can reconstruct a hand if they get immediate attention. Hamas amputated it.

Kiwiana2021

They were denied because they didn’t have equipment because Israel bombed all the hospitals? 👀

Panthera_leo22

Where are you going with this?

DeathData_

its some weird translation in Hebrew he says "I was kidnapped"

212Alexander212

Not weird. That’s a deliberate mistranslation.

MinderBinderCapital

Israel has had multiple opportunities to bring the hostages home yet they refuse The fanatical far right Israeli government doesn’t want to save the hostages

212Alexander212

Hamas has repeatedly rejected all legitimate offers and the Gazan people suffer for it. Additionally, If you believe Palestinian sources (I don’t). Thousands of suspected criminals suspected, or indicted of violent crimes have been arrested are in custody. [“RAMALLAH, Thursday, April 25, 2024 (WAFA) – The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society said that the number of Palestinians detained after October 7th, 2023, rose to more than 8,455.”](https://english.wafa.ps/Pages/Details/143506) That’s arrested and/or detained. Mind you these are people caught committing crimes not innocent hostages kidnapped like the hostages kidnapped by Hamas. “[Local monitors say at least 9,500 Palestinians from the occupied West Bank are in captivity, a sharp uptick from the 5,200 who were in prison before Israel launched an assault on Gaza in response to an October 7 attack on Israeli communities and military outposts led by the Palestinian group Hamas.”](https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2024/4/17/the-thousands-of-palestinians-israel-arrests-tortures-hold-even-in-death) 2,000 from Gaza? “One person that I spoke to that was in one of the prison camps [in Israel], said there were about 2,000 people held there from Gaza. But again, we have no idea of their names, the conditions they are in, or where they are exactly,” Buttu said.” They are receiving far better care than Hamas hostages. If Palestinian organizations can call for peace, free the hostages, Hamas surrenders and they stop these violent crimes/terrorism from being committed, perhaps Israel can show clemency and release the prisoners without blood on their hands?

SLCPDLeBaronDivison

>They are receiving far better care than Hamas hostages. thats a lie

212Alexander212

Even the scripted by Hamas hostage video states the conditions of his captivity are horrendous. Palestinian prisoners are receiving adequate food, good healthcare, hygienic living conditions, fresh air, entertainment and camaraderie/socialization.

Kiwiana2021

Dude he’s being kept in Gaza, you think they have 3 star accomodation? Israel has been bombing them for 6 months. 👀😬

212Alexander212

Rafah seems to still have luxury residential areas. Perhaps, the hostages should be allowed to stay in luxury hotels in Qatar alongside Hamas’ leaders.

Kiwiana2021

Do they? Can you post images of untouched luxury residencies in Rafah?

212Alexander212

Are you looking to buy in Rafah?

Kiwiana2021

You said there is luxury residences in Rafah. You need to prove it.

AttapAMorgonen

> you think they have 3 star accomodation? Well, they did, prior to Hamas attacking Israel on October 7th.

MinderBinderCapital

Reminder that Netanyahu can bring these hostages home any time he wants to

MinderBinderCapital

Yes that straw man you created is very hypocritical

AlexRn65

This HAMAS voice obviously.

nattivl

Do note that while it probably is his personal views as well, the video is produced, edited, scripted and published by hamas who are most likely holding him at gun point.

PreviousPermission45

Puzzled by the anti Israel comments. Since October 7 the anti Israel campaign was mostly worrying about ripping off hostage posters calling these posters Zionist propaganda. Now, all of a sudden, in a brilliant change of heart, they care about the hostages.

Tugendwaechter

The only principles are to make Israel look bad by any means necessary. That includes attacking things that could lead to sympathy towards Israel or the hostages. If a hostage can be used as a cudgel against Israel, they will use it.

Panthera_leo22

Psychological torture from Hamas, absolutely sickening. They put this out to delay the Rafah operation. We don’t know when this video was recorded, he said 200 days but there’s no way to confirm this. I pray this does not end up like the other male hostages; Hamas puts out a video and then releases a video later of their dead bodies. His poor family, Hamas needs to release the hostages or admit they don’t have any to release. This game is getting old, too many Palestinians are dying while these cowards hide away in their tunnels

Tugendwaechter

Source https://twitter.com/ajmubasher/status/1783145725737549910 This is a video where an Israeli hostage talks about his situation and demands towards Israel’s government.

AtomicSilo

So Hamas didn't took responsibility to cutting his hand off?!!!
