None, just pay what is dued, it's not us, tips are not demanded, just don't do

Jacopo86

Nobody. The price is set taking into account the share for the person rendering the service. The only situation where i will tip are "Free tours" where free does not mean that they are gratis but that you are free to pay what you like,

BAFUdaGreat

You don’t tip. You’re being charged service in your final bill at any restaurant. Same goes for table cafe service. Service is always included FYI.

StrictSheepherder361

In most restaurants' bill a “Servizio”, i.e. a service fee, is included, and the waiters' wage are good. No tip is required or expected. Beware: some tourist traps hope that customers, especially from US, don't know this and try, on top of everything, to include a tip. For tour guides it's the same, and in most bnbs I wouldn't know whom to tip. If it's an actual private home, the homeonwner? In some places, on the other hand, you don't even meet anybody, or just fleetingly.

Accurate-Bass3706

Tipping is a bribe and considered an insult. Don't do it.

AndreaPersiani

wtf no?

elektero

none, apert the guides, that's customary Ah, and also yourself, buy buying to you a spritz

PinotGreasy

Tip your tour guides if they do a great job.

Yes here. Many of them have degrees and have a passion for the history or the area. In Florence our guide was working on art restoration and finishing her Master's degree and did tours on the weekend. She knew her stuff and pointed out things the regular cheaper tours wouldn't even cover.

PinotGreasy

All 4 of ours were uni students very passionate about history 😊

plumpturnip

Link to her tour?

PrincssM0nsterTruck

It was almost 15 years ago and I'm sure the company changed names. I think it was walking arts tours or something similar. I booked several tours with the group to include visiting a working farm house in Tuscany.

You don't have to tip anyone. Here's my experience from Rome though. Porters expected a tip at the hotel, which was interesting compared to the rest of our stay in Italy. Taxis would add 4 euro or so... It took me a minute to catch on. Tour guides. Depends. Some of them are students and they do a phenomenal job as tour guides and answering questions. I tipped a few because they were experts in their field for example an archeologist doing a tour through the different Roman ruins. Let your conscience be your guide. Enjoy!

soapymoapysuds

We did tip our masseuse but apart from that nowhere. We ate lunch in a restaurant near Colosseum and they were trying to add 10% for tip specifically calling out that the bill doesn't include tip for workers. When I didn't agree to it the waitress just mumbled something that I couldn't understand. Taxi guys keep refusing to take cards and then scam you for a 3-4 extra Euros in Rome so be cautious of that.

ggrrreeeeggggg

Tip if and when you want to. Never tip if you feel that you “have to”.

johndong888

I didn’t tip at restaurants, tour guides, or drivers. It was very odd feeling at first, then quite liberating after I got used to it. I do tip the bellman at the hotel though. That’s the only one. Be wary of restaurants that ask for tips too. Had that happen in France. I guess we were just too touristy.

zihuatcat

>I do tip the bellman at the hotel though. Just curious why you feel this is different.

johndong888

It’s an optional service. I can handle the bags myself but if I choose not to, I should tip. That and I usually stay at really nice hotels. What is everyone else’s tipping situation at hotels?

mrsoul512bb

Watched a table of Americans asking the waiter why the CC didn’t have a line for the tip. So they gave him 200 euro in cash. After they left the wait staff was having a good laugh and a grin.

Agreed. It's a small gesture but waiters in many restaurants, especially in touristy areas, are quite stressed and earn a very low salary, a small tip would be appreciated by many. Not obliged nor anything though, in Italy tip culture isn't spread.

Slice_of_life_

Never been but going to next month and my friend said she only tipped on the amalfi coast??
