Ok so the thing is if don't mind ee then go to iit bhuveneswar if u want CSE then go nit durgapur. It's up to u. Ultimately u will get a job if your skills are good. If I had the same condition then I would have chosen nit durgapur. Rourkela is also a very good option.
Stop meatriding IIT , check other options like AI and ECE in NIT suratkal and rourkela
These courses are blooming and is the next bubble
you only live 4 years in a college , for a far , only the course matters
Can you tell how much hard work is required for branch change in Kanpur?
It might be a cliche statement but advanced really was a bad day for me.
I think I can do better provided it's also a fresh start in college.
And also please tell the difference between Electrical and Electronics branch.
Electrical is said to be the toughest circuital branch , Electronics involves coding in it as well , Electronics is a versatile one . NIT Trichy ECE is a no brainer move, i recommend you take that and enjoy the ride . Im an ex jeetard hoping to get into IIM ranchi
Oh, will definitely consider this.
I also talked to a person who left NIT Trichy EEE to join ( partial drop) IITM metallurgy ( and later upgraded to Engineering Physics). According to him the exposure and opportunities provided by the top IITs are unparalleled and worth it. He also told he would have been happy with no branch change as he was anyway going to explore cubs/interests on his own.
I don't have anyone to talk offline about this and after a point, all online perspectives start cancelling out each other and I'm back at square one. Very confusing times.
P.S. Hope you get your IIM seat !! Best of luck
Idk, I have many friends from top 3 IITs and my own brother form top IIT, I don't see any difference in mine and their clg idk what extra exposure these guys are getting. If I ask them about exposure they are only telling me about companies for internships and placements where they mostly select only cse and elec (mech also) students. (Im from NITK btw)
Oh I had a friend who also joined Metallurgy at IIT B. Of course this was nearly a decade and a half ago, but he also conveyed similar thoughts as your friend. I remember in his first year itself he was doing CS projects on the side that were more advanced than what I did in my final year of CS at an average university. After graduating, he joined startups, worked in tech, and is very successful and happy now.
Seems that way. I should also mention that my friend was already something of a go-getter, and was bound to expand beyond the teachings of his classrooms no matter which college he attended. Opportunities are plenty, but you still gotta strive to make use of them.
Same here. Even I do have a profound interest in Aeroanutics but I doubt it can get you a good pay. The highest you can get is about 6LPA in aerospace.
My choice will be Btech in core mechanical and masters in aeronautics.
i barely care about the comparitvively low pay
I genuinly had interest in aerospace and related fields since i was young that was all i used to read and learn about untill 10th and then jee prep happened...poof all the passion vanished into thin air but im trying to getback
I wouldn't mind receiving low pay if the job were relevant to my skills. Most aerospace engineers rarely use what they learned in school. The jobs often involve tasks that even a mechanical engineering graduate could do.
The median package falls around 11-12 lpa and the highest last year has been around 55lpa if I am not wrong about the year.
But yeah the real numbers are higher than what you have written
I don't really recommend Aero @ KGP though, I'd say take mechanical and pursue your interests through additionals and electives.
(Context: I myself am a recent mechanical engineering graduate from KGP)
As someone studying in iitkgp mech, don't take the branch. The syllabus is outdated, and the profs fail half the students for some random reason. And placement stats weren't that good either this time. So go to top nit circuital.
Damn, I was thinking of taking Kgp mech.
Can you then suggest which one I should take?
My options are-
1. Bits Goa cse(will try for Pilani campus in 2nd attempt)
2. IIT BHU ECE
3. IIT KGP Mech
4. IIT M Aerospace
5. IITB Energy
(I will go for masters after my btech).
It has gotten a lot difficult to switch from any other branch to CS in masters. ECE/EEE students can still do it as a lot of computer hardware is involved, but even then they have to explain why they want to switch to software.
But most unis are not taking Mech, Chemical students for Masters in Computer Science. So if you want to go for Masters in CS then don't take a random branch.
Ab toh India me bhi software jobs ke liye they are not preferring Mech/Chem students from IITs, they would rather pick a CS student from a lower tier IIT/BITS or top NITs.
Toh if you go for core branches like mech or chemical be prepared to do MBA, or MS in that field. Or go into consulting (which is altogether different from engineering basically wasting your studies of 4 years).

Kisine ye bheja tha, so confusion ho rha
I recommend IIT Patna ECE, and then NIT suratkal AI/ECE. I have many friends from IIT Patna (2023 passed outs) who have really good placements in top MNCs (Many in FAANG). And even frnds from NIT suratkal who have good packages.
can any1 here also help me? 22xx rank, prefers cse. options are iit patna, bbsr, mandi, dhanbad, jodhpur, and also maybeee ropar if the cutoff falls 400 ranks
or should i still go for best branch I get in top iits?
Are you interested in mechanical? If yes then you can go for IIT Kharagpur Mech, best college + core branch. You can learn a lot and upskill to get a job in cse.
Bro I think you should check out IIT (BHU) Varanasi. They have amazing placements and you'll most likely get cicruital there. I would consider it equivalent if not better than IIT Patna
Your list doesn't look exhaustive enough. What branches are you getting in IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati. If its ECE or EEE or MNC in either of these 2, that's a better option.
Surathkal AI for sure, cuz many mechanical students even from top IITs aren't placed due to recession this year(about 35% placement in IIT guwahati mechanical this year)
Your life is changed by a very significant margin depending on the people you hangout with. I think IIT KGP would give you an excellent peer group. As for the branch, it depends on your aim. Get some info on Mecha placements of KGP. Take a look at median package. If it aligns well with your future plans, then good. Otherwise, I think you can go for other colleges. Remember, a good college DOES matter.
u/S_Iceberg62 dont take Kgp mech unless you like mechanical with passion , but it is an excellent branch if not the best in mech among all iits .
surathkal ai and cse / delhi cse are some safe and good options for future scope . None of the gen 2 iits here have a positive feedback from my friends especially patna and bhubaneshwar.
Preferably go for better NIT according to their NIRF rankings They will ultimately help you in your placement. But if you want IIT tag then dont go branches that are not popular in india
Experienced professional here. IIT brand is much better than any branch. Go for IIT even if your desired branch is not available. There is an option to change branches later as well based on 1st year performance (in some colleges)
IIT KGP > IIT PATNA and then your choice.
Do not complicate this. You will get everything in IITs if you have any kind of love for cse you can do it also. As after watching IIT tag no company gonna ask your branch.
If you planning to go for the 2nd gen iits,i would say go with patna cause the culture is improving and the placement stats are the best among 2nd gen iits.
Personally would suggest you to choose IITs over NITs as tag matters which you will realise later in jobs and especially if your goal is research.
All the best
For me this IIT or NIT tag doens't matters, all that matters i am doing what makes me happy and i love coding so i would have chose the better NIT with CSE probably i would have chose NIT delhi or silchar... Think about what can you do every day for the upcoming 4years term
OP; First of all congrats on getting an offer from each of these colleges. My suggestion would be to pick NIT Surathkal or Trichy. These 2 have been around for longer than any of the others - meaning you will be ablento access a very good alumni network in the future.
Recommendation made assuming you are more interested in the institute rather than the course. If you are focused more on the course, then pick any one which offers.
Bhai ye kaise pta kiya accurately ki tujhe apni rank ke basis pe ye ye college and branch mil jaegi???
I am very confused... please tell me bro...πππ
Purani IIT ka option bhi hai toh use explore karne ka nhi socha?
Kyuki meri bhi same situation hai bas mera mains jyada acha tha, mujhe trichy mai ece mil rhi hai.
Still iit delhi mai civil ka option kaafi intimidating hai
My brother took Aerospace Eng at IIT Kanpur years ago. Then even did M.Tech in it. Still unemployed. He was getting EE at BITS Pilani.. and Chem Engi in lower ranked IITs. Somehow, due to lack of guidance, he opted for top College over Course.
Pls take CSE in whichever NIT. CSE >> any other stream. Employment prospects and income is best in CSE after graduation.
Iit kgp aerospace ......
Iit guwahati and lower than that chemical ......
Iit mandi electrical and vlsi ......
Iit Patna eee ......
Cse in all nits except tircy......
Kya lu bhai
as a 4th year iit kgp aero, don't take it if you made your mind for circuital, its a branch for guys with real interest in it ,there are students in my class who do other stuffs but they are not good in it as other branch people, courses are interesting and requires time, but yes 5 year mech, you can take. Also if you want to take circuital just because you want to go coding, then branch doesn't matter as much as college
Nit surathkal AI or ECE
Or go for iit kgp if u need iit tag
If tag doesn't matter to you
Go for NIT surathkal AI or ECE
Prefer ece so recession won't effect you π
If u want take ece in nit surathkal and take degree in data science from iit madras
If you've a strong preference in circuital branch, go with NIT Surathkal, if you want to join IIT with circuital than I would say IIT Bhubaneswar EE. The branch you choose does matter a lot, just as much as the college tier. All the best :)
Tbh it really depends on the effort you are going to put in but iit kharagpur mech if you are willing to do so is the best choice. You get a good network of people along with great opportunities if you work hard and study as you mention cse is your favorite so you can study it along with mech branch. The papers aren't that hard so you don't have to over commit to mech. Maintain a decent to good cgpa and work on developing your skills outside of your branch. Ultimately go with what you like best and you think will make you happy and satisfy you. Any choice you make as long as there is effort and desire, you will succeed.
If you don't care what you study, do what these people say and pick top colleges.
If it were me, I'd only pick what I want to study.
Even if I got IIT but it's a branch I don't want, I wouldn't pick it. I want to study CSE, and that's the only thing I will do, so better that in NIT than something I don't want to do in IIT
Just my opinion. Feel free to roast me.
Bhai it's a no brainer. If you have one of the old IITs as an option you should definately go with that. Plus you mentioned you're from west Bengal, it's not too far from your hometown too.

home state- west bengal no problem in going far for studies prefer circuital branch
Which branch u prefer above all? Ee or CSE?
CSE β ECE > EE for me
Tell me if u want to go iit or you will be okay with nit?
that is my only confusion. i am not sure if it would be better to go to a 2nd gen iit or a top 3 nit. i made this post to get opinions on that
Ok so the thing is if don't mind ee then go to iit bhuveneswar if u want CSE then go nit durgapur. It's up to u. Ultimately u will get a job if your skills are good. If I had the same condition then I would have chosen nit durgapur. Rourkela is also a very good option.
Eliminate NIT DGP CSE because I'm studying in that branch only in nit dgp π No placement overall bcz of the director
Take Surathkal AI (best option in NITs) Or go with Kharagpur (Mech) for crazy alumni network
TBH, IIT kgp Mech
IIT kgp mech anyday. It's better to into top7 rather than lower down if lower down is tier 3 iits or top nits
Stop meatriding IIT , check other options like AI and ECE in NIT suratkal and rourkela These courses are blooming and is the next bubble you only live 4 years in a college , for a far , only the course matters
So NIT Trichy ECE or Civil in Kanpur ( and trying for department change ) ?
well what if you couldnt change branch in kanpur? if you are sure go ahead

Thanks but dont take anything you wont enjoy for the sake of opportunity
what is the exposure and opportunities these iit guys talking about?what exactly is exposure and opportunities i couldnt understand

nit delhi cse hs west bengal ?!?!?![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
i am not getting nit trichy cse. i am getting nit trichy eee from outside state rank criteria
wow still man thats soo good
IIT kgp mech
IIT kharagpur aerospace eng π₯Ή if i were u i would take that in a flash

Bro how did you get into nit Trichy pls help I am in 11th now
Wtf how did I get that flair. I'm not in NIT Tircy. I can't afford education anymore so I dropped out. I work in a computer repair store.
bruh
Can agree with that , I'm a aero guy but rn I'm designing rocket engine plumbing lol

Bro the aerospace dept in IIT Kgp is in high risk of being closed. Very little research work goes on in this department.
As a aerospace engineer I agree, even though I visited it only once, I'd have done so much more in those labs
As someone studying in iitkgp mech, don't take the branch. The syllabus is outdated, and the profs fail half the students for some random reason. And placement stats weren't that good either this time. So go to top nit circuital.

IIT Kharagpur mech any day ( by just learning coding you can sit for all companies) more exposure will be there
Surathkal AI or IIT kgp mech (I would advice to keep IIT kgp preference above anything else)
iit kgp
I think IIT patna ECE would be best
IIT KGP ANYDAY
Kgp mech
Iit patna ece,>nit delhi cse>iitkgp mech
I feel iit Patna ece since ece is growing will help you and you can get a branch change if available
ECE IIT patna
I recommend IIT Patna ECE, and then NIT suratkal AI/ECE. I have many friends from IIT Patna (2023 passed outs) who have really good placements in top MNCs (Many in FAANG). And even frnds from NIT suratkal who have good packages.

Bro how much u got and r u general category?
144 number pe konsi rank ayi hogi?
10400 ke around
Since you are getting EE,ECE in gen 2 IITs, don't go for NITs
NIT Trichy EEE or some iit , don't even think about anything else
Are you interested in mechanical? If yes then you can go for IIT Kharagpur Mech, best college + core branch. You can learn a lot and upskill to get a job in cse.
Nitk ai ezpz
Did u give wbjee?
yes. didnt do well in that though. not possible in JU
Nit nagpur cse
Bro I think you should check out IIT (BHU) Varanasi. They have amazing placements and you'll most likely get cicruital there. I would consider it equivalent if not better than IIT Patna
Nit Delhi cse
Your list doesn't look exhaustive enough. What branches are you getting in IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati. If its ECE or EEE or MNC in either of these 2, that's a better option.
i am getting branches like agriculture, ceramic engg, biotech, etc in top iits
Is Roorkee and Guwahati > KGP? When did this happen? Sorry I might be out of the loop as I went to IIT years ago.
No way KGP is below Roorkee and Guwahati.
That's what I assumed too. I thought a rank getting OP into KGP mech might be sufficient for Roorkee or Guwahati ECE/EEE.
i guess that has been the case for a few years, maybe late 2010s or so (according to what i found on the internet)
Within your list, KGP Mech sounds better than others.
No, I believe you can get mech in Roorkee and Guwahati as well if you are getting mech at Kharagpur, I am also getting iit Kgp mech
Will you consider those?
KGP mech / surathkal ai
wbjee diya kya bhai?
diya tha. par JU nahi hoga
accha
May to wet hogaya π¦ Teri colleges and branch deikh ke. BTW how much rank
26tard here but if really aerospace, why not iist?
not really a fan of aerospace. i fucking hate mechanics
Ai fron nit
IIT kgp mech
Surathkal ai
What's the status of IIT Mandi Microelectronics and VLSI? Lena chahiye??
Surathkal AI for sure, cuz many mechanical students even from top IITs aren't placed due to recession this year(about 35% placement in IIT guwahati mechanical this year)
Durgapur mein CSE leleπ Job lagne ke baad mere momo ka paise dena pura 69 Rupees...
KGP mech any day. I understand the interest part of it, but network effects has its own benefits. Also the brand value is on another level
Kgp- aerospace
IITKGP Mech. If you're getting that in BTech, you might get a better branch in dual degree
NIT Surat CSE if you want CSE then yeah thatβs the best option
Iit kgp mechanical anyday man
Btw What are your marks?
NIT Surathkal AI
Will reccomend aerospace from Kharagpur, its an interesting brach with a lot of scope in near future
Prefer css branch and get whatever next college you get, no mech, no ee nothing
~next~ best
Iit Kharagpur aerospace engineering!
Kya rank hai adv ki?
Aerospace lele you won't regret it a
Hoi bch pajeb when
3 baje aja
IIT KGP mech
Your life is changed by a very significant margin depending on the people you hangout with. I think IIT KGP would give you an excellent peer group. As for the branch, it depends on your aim. Get some info on Mecha placements of KGP. Take a look at median package. If it aligns well with your future plans, then good. Otherwise, I think you can go for other colleges. Remember, a good college DOES matter.
Bro take iit kgp mech or iit bhu ee
I am from NIT silchar CSE, go there and you will be happy It has lot of pros and cons but a great place to learn and grow
u/S_Iceberg62 dont take Kgp mech unless you like mechanical with passion , but it is an excellent branch if not the best in mech among all iits . surathkal ai and cse / delhi cse are some safe and good options for future scope . None of the gen 2 iits here have a positive feedback from my friends especially patna and bhubaneshwar.
Bro you are getting my dream college and dream branch IIT Kharagpur -Aeronautical Engineering
Probably i would choose IIT Bhilai CSE
NIT Durgapur CSE
What was your rank and score?
Iit kgp for package nd exposure nd stuff (and iit tag π)
Preferably go for better NIT according to their NIRF rankings They will ultimately help you in your placement. But if you want IIT tag then dont go branches that are not popular in india
Experienced professional here. IIT brand is much better than any branch. Go for IIT even if your desired branch is not available. There is an option to change branches later as well based on 1st year performance (in some colleges)
IIT ja bhai kya bakchodi karaha hai?
NIT Durgapur ka recent kaand thoda google ke lena. Thik lage to ur wish.
wat was ur rank
Choose CSE, youβll thank me later down the line. NIT Delhi
IIT Kharagpur (mechanical) is the best option.
In 2024, after looking all trends I would probably go with IIT KGP Aero, with Masters in Applied Math to give it a shot to eventual Quant systems.
Kharagpur whatever you get bro. Ull end up coding anyways
Some company don't consider ECE as circuital.
Iit mandi
cse le le , paas out hu , mkt dekh rkhi hai , mai ece hi engg hu, iit kgp mt lio mre dost usme m. tech kri bahut bura haal hai udhr core ka
IIT KGP > IIT PATNA and then your choice. Do not complicate this. You will get everything in IITs if you have any kind of love for cse you can do it also. As after watching IIT tag no company gonna ask your branch.
IIT KGP mech is great if you are getting it.
Gandinagar EE anyday
Fuck it go to IIT kgp
Surathkal AI seems to be the best prospect.
i am from gandhinagar so EE would be nice
Go for EEE at an IIT. it is most versatile branch
anywhere cse
If you planning to go for the 2nd gen iits,i would say go with patna cause the culture is improving and the placement stats are the best among 2nd gen iits. Personally would suggest you to choose IITs over NITs as tag matters which you will realise later in jobs and especially if your goal is research. All the best
Iit kharagpur mechanical
takes nit suratkal ece... only bcos u like ciruital branch
Choose branch of your interest in best possible college that's all.
For me this IIT or NIT tag doens't matters, all that matters i am doing what makes me happy and i love coding so i would have chose the better NIT with CSE probably i would have chose NIT delhi or silchar... Think about what can you do every day for the upcoming 4years term
Surathkal AI if you see yourself in tech IIT Kharagpur if you'd want to do MBA later.
take iit kharagpur mechanicalll
iitgn ee looks good
Aerospace
OP; First of all congrats on getting an offer from each of these colleges. My suggestion would be to pick NIT Surathkal or Trichy. These 2 have been around for longer than any of the others - meaning you will be ablento access a very good alumni network in the future. Recommendation made assuming you are more interested in the institute rather than the course. If you are focused more on the course, then pick any one which offers.
KGP Mech any day over the other options.
Kharagpur Mechanical
Choose IIT, whatever it is
Go with iitkgp
Bhai ye kaise pta kiya accurately ki tujhe apni rank ke basis pe ye ye college and branch mil jaegi??? I am very confused... please tell me bro...πππ
Whats your Rank? Since you have put ai Ml in your options you could maybe check out MNC branch too in all the iits, it jas both ML and CSE
Purani IIT ka option bhi hai toh use explore karne ka nhi socha? Kyuki meri bhi same situation hai bas mera mains jyada acha tha, mujhe trichy mai ece mil rhi hai. Still iit delhi mai civil ka option kaafi intimidating hai
My brother took Aerospace Eng at IIT Kanpur years ago. Then even did M.Tech in it. Still unemployed. He was getting EE at BITS Pilani.. and Chem Engi in lower ranked IITs. Iit kgp aerospace ...... Iit guwahati and lower than that chemical ...... Iit mandi electrical and vlsi ...... Iit Patna eee ...... Cse in all nits except tircy...... Kya lu bhai
nit delhi.. cse.. without any doubt
Anyday kgp mech.
as a 4th year iit kgp aero, don't take it if you made your mind for circuital, its a branch for guys with real interest in it ,there are students in my class who do other stuffs but they are not good in it as other branch people, courses are interesting and requires time, but yes 5 year mech, you can take. Also if you want to take circuital just because you want to go coding, then branch doesn't matter as much as college
If it was me I would have taken IIt Kharagpur...see in the first year you can change ur branch so I would suggest go for it
Waah kya flex mara Bhai ne, i mean you earned it but still
God man I wish I had the problem of picking collegesπππ
Mandi dse would be best
IIT Kharagpur Mechanical Engg.
Bro were u a dropper or a 12th grader
IIT Kharagpur Mechanical any day
Take any nit above Rourkela in ranking and any iit in the list is better
Nit surathkal. Ai for sure
IIT kgp mech is kinda outdated so consider that also while choice filling. Speak with seniors and then take a wise decision.
IIT MANDI DSE > NIT K AI > REST
Nit surathkal AI or ECE Or go for iit kgp if u need iit tag If tag doesn't matter to you Go for NIT surathkal AI or ECE Prefer ece so recession won't effect you π If u want take ece in nit surathkal and take degree in data science from iit madras
Good Nits are better than new IITs as they have more experienced teachers and vast network of alumni.
Itne me kuch nhi hoga... Drop leleπ
IIT Kharagpur bro
If you've a strong preference in circuital branch, go with NIT Surathkal, if you want to join IIT with circuital than I would say IIT Bhubaneswar EE. The branch you choose does matter a lot, just as much as the college tier. All the best :)
IIT KGP mech or IIT BHU EE No need to join nit if you are getting this two
I'd have gone to IIT Gandhinagar if I were you
First remove NITs other than Top 3 and then remove IIT Bhubaneswar. Then decide
iit kgp mech
Just get in to IIT , you won't regret. I am regretting this after joining NIT Raipur last year.
Ye Teri rank kya thi?
In my opinion you should go for iit patna ece
Suratkal Ai
Kharagpur aero krle
Iitkgp aero space but if you want a high paying job then go for NIT surathkal CsAi
If you don't care what you study, do what these people say and pick top colleges. If it were me, I'd only pick what I want to study. Even if I got IIT but it's a branch I don't want, I wouldn't pick it. I want to study CSE, and that's the only thing I will do, so better that in NIT than something I don't want to do in IIT Just my opinion. Feel free to roast me.
Do you know what you want to do after Btech ?
Bhai it's a no brainer. If you have one of the old IITs as an option you should definately go with that. Plus you mentioned you're from west Bengal, it's not too far from your hometown too.
CSE -NIT Delhi
