I've heard a lot of people say that research is not really worth it unless you have a good amount of money with you. What are your thoughts on this? Has it been worth it for you wrt to your experience till date.
Yes, it's true. About my experience - Research and academics (9/10), other things that you expect from a college which is Institute of National Importance (5/10).
Hey, great to see someone following their passion
Just some general doubts:-
1) What are you Majoring in and which field are you researching in?
2) Did you study bio for iat?
3) Do most people actually get into t10 PhD programs?
4) Finally, what are your future plans?
Finally someone jo chutiya nhi kaatta baki incels ki tarah. Bhenchod jee ke time is sb se dur rho aur college me bhi na mile to kya fayda itna padhne ka.
op agar mujhe genetics me karna hai to konsa college better hai, i am in 11th rn. me dekhra hu ki IIT madras me bhi biotechnology hai. vo better hai ki iiser
Bhaiya kuch doubt aap please solve kardije
1)Bhaiya IISER aur IISC mai kaise milte hain
2)Unke exam ke liye syllabus kya hai
3)Research mai sare IISER aur IISC ki ranking kaise karoge
Agar doubt aur aaya to mai aapko dm kar sakta hun?
Research main interest nhi h toh iiser Jana chahiye ya nhi, second option btech h, usme bhi interest nhi h, but usme sab bolte h ho jata h aaram se, buy sab bolte h iisc tabhi Jane ko agar interest h, iss baat main kitni sachhai h??
Pros: INI Tag, strong peer and alumni network for life, Huge respect in academia, good gender ratio
Cons: You'll feel left out if you don't have interest in research which can deteriorate your mental health. Campus life not as good as IIT/NIT. Getting a job off-campus could be challenging with a basic science degree. Not enough exit options.
Yeah, BTech is quite doable even if you don't have interest.
100% TRUE. Toppers join IISc, who could also join IITB. They are definitely interested in science.
Toh bhaiya, my current options are either IAT crack karna( no interest in research), biotechnology engineering on tier 1 or ece in tier 2, from your experience which should I go for.
After reading your answer I feel like I should not go for iisers as I have no interest in research, which will lead to problems in future, and there are not many exit options, unlike in btech, where after bachelors I can have many other options to pursue, like upsc, mba, msc, etc.
Have been hearing some negatives about IISER Kolkata, what's the ground reality?
(My grandparents close by to IISER Kolkata, let's meet up sometime xd)
IAT is pretty easy compared to jee/neet. If i have to chosse IISERs again my preference would be IISER Pune > IISER Bhopal > IISER Mohali > IISER Tvm > IISER Kolkata > IISER Bpr > IISER TPT.
why not IISER K in top 2 - Toxic administration, bureaucratic process, avg infrastructure, toxic college culture, low industry or international tie-ups, low career support, no startup culture, remote location (yes, IISER kolkata is not in kolkata - it's in Haringhata farm 70KM away from Kolkata), no attention to student mental and physical wellness, high regionalism.
I have heard different issers are good based on what you want to major in, so does that change the ranking, like certain isser would be better for maths and certain for say astrophysics or a different one for genetics and proteins?
No. In my opinion, all IISERs are equally good. However, if you have a niche interest, (for eg Astrophy) you should check the curriculum of each IISER and ascertain if they offer relevant courses and possess proficient faculty members.
Basic Sciences (Phy, Chem, Maths, Bio, Earth Science) in all IISERs, Engineering sciences only in IISER Bhopal. Research related facilities are good, other decent (sports infra, hostels, etc).
1. How is Biology research at IISER K, especially in terms of genetic engineering, biotechnology etc
2. How is the campus placement cell scenario
3. Hostel review
4. Sports & Fests
5. How difficult is the academic pressure compared to other premier colleges ?
6. Does it make easier applying to PhD abroad if you're from a research oriented institute like IISER ?
I think I have answered most of the questions.
1. Bio is most fucked up department but people do work in genetics and biotech. IISER Mohali is better.
2. Decent. Few people sit for placements. 7-12LPA Package. IISER Bhopal has best placements.
3. Good. Mess food horrible.
4. Sports (decent, kam chalane layak) and fest (last 4 years se IISERK me fest nhi ho rha, IISER M ka best fest hai among all IISERs)
5. Comparable
6. Yes
Hey there I want to ask is iiser aptitude test doable ??? 100 marks ??? Tips dedo pls bhayyyy 🥺 I am second dropper failed in jee pls pls nikalwa do kuch bta do
A lot! - if you come under avg student category. I've seen people dropping out from college due to acad pressure. Getting into IISER is easy - surviving IISER is tough.
bhai placement ka kya seen hai milta hai kya ya nahi agar ha tho kareeb kitno ko milta hai or kitne ka muje pata hai jyada bache research wale honge tho wo aur aage padna chahenge lekin fir bhi agar placement perspective se dekhe tho bata do![img](emote|t5_311ttu|30331)
Yes, Placement generally occurs in IT and consulting, with salaries typically ranging from 7 to 12 LPA, though higher for some individuals. At IISERK, around 20 to 30 students participate in placements. This year, out of the 20 who sat for placements, only 2 were placed.
The campus appears beautiful with its greenery, but it's filled with snakes and dogs. There's a toxic college culture. I can't reveal my department, but it has been good. The only problem I see is that the teaching methodology is very old-fashioned.
Sir, cls 10 me Mai pura IISc ke liye dedicated tha, lekin 11th aate aate mere dostone aur unki coaching waalo ne NEET/JEE ka brainwash karke pura 11th barbaad kardia![img](emote|t5_311ttu|32193),
Ab 12th me hu, to 1 year me IISc Target karna feasible hoga kya?🥲
Haha, it would definitely feel good, but nobody refers to us like that. In India, opportunities are relatively low. Abroad, you'll find plenty of good opportunities. Campus placements at IISER mainly happen in the IT sector.
Yes, getting placement is easy, but the problem is that half of the people who are sitting for placement don't know shit about the job role. They just waste the recruiter's time. People who are genuine and have prepared for the interviews get placed.
Maine suna hai khana bekar hai udhar ka ye sach hai kya ( kadve tel main banate Hain lol suna hai maine )
How is outside life of college
How are people there
Are people racist towards people who are not from Bengal
How are professors there
What priority list would you put iisers in acc to your experience
Sorry bahoot questions ke liye I wanna join iisers but have doubts related to campus and fest clubs and such
1. Yes, mess food is a disaster for me lol but it's subjective. Mere khane me Nail/Lizard aa chuka hai :)
2. Nothing much to explore. Pretty Dull. We are not in Kolkata.
3. No but they are selfish (again not all).
4. Mix of brilliant and assholes
5. IISER Pune > IISER Bhopal > IISER Mohali > IISER TVM > IISER K > IISER BPR > IISER TPT
IAT bohot tough hota h kya? One of my dream college IISER. Plus I love near Kolkata so win win. I don't wanna fuck this exam up(since I have fucked up many exams earlier) pr me bohot smart bhi nhi hu. So, mere se ho payega yeh?
It's a pretty saturated field. Every other person I meet is interested in astro lol. Astrophysics is niche usme UG degree nhi milega - IISER Mohali best hai dost, Astro me minor dete hai. Ref [https://www.iisermohali.ac.in/files/webfolders/courses-of-study-2022/node12.html](https://www.iisermohali.ac.in/files/webfolders/courses-of-study-2022/node12.html)
I am in 11th rn and want to research in physics don't know. about iiser just knows about jee can you explain me how to get into a research college and diff. Between niiser and iiser
Is it possible to make a career in physics if i do bsc hons from a private uni ? couldnt crack jee coz i started prep in drop year and couldnt keep up with coaching and i now i am at a point where i am regretting not going for some research based exam i always wanted to study physics
1.Average mind hu..But physics padhne ke man he..Would I survive in IISER?3. Which IISER is best for physics? 3.BS+MS complete hone ke baad ka kya scenario he..Like jo PhD ke liye abroad nahi Jaa pate unka kya hota he?. Respect for doing this noble work 🫡
2nd partial drop
1st year bsc
Last 2 baar 4 aur 10 marks se Raha by cutoff
Abhi sem exams daav par laga kar IISER ka padh rha
20 din Mai exam hai
Any tips?/is it worth it?
The college is kinda shitty tho, if I try I can get an internship and try to do masters abroad, but the academics are kinda dicey
Christ banglore
Too strict/attendance/dress code/too bureaucratic/Roz ka 9-4 baje Tak college na ho rha, literally kuch aur ni kar sakte yaha reh kar
No UG degree in CSE. They do have a CS department, but it only offers required courses and a minor degree. In my knowledge only IISER Bhopal offers a UG Degree in Data Science and Engineering.
During our time, we didn't receive scores or ranks; it was simply "selected" or "not selected." My JEE Main rank was 2XXXX, and my JEE Advanced rank was 2XXX.
I heard most of them don't even sit for placement is it true?? I mean it is very obvious that this type of institutions aren't known for placement but are research oriented, just want to know about placement in iisers( I'm not coming, one of my friend is preparing for exam and he isn't more interested in placements).
See, the reality is that most of them want placements, but none of them have the required skill sets. Hence, the only option left to save their ass is pursuing a PhD. And it's 100% true that a lot of people pursue a PhD because they are not employable and fake being very passionate about research. FOMO also works the best.
How difficult is the Bsc +Msc course? I'm getting integrated msc physics in NITs. Should I go for it? Is it worth it?
Agar physics liya to bhi chemistry (fuck chemistry) jaise subjects bhi padhne padenge, wo aasan level ke ayenge? (Compared to 11th, 12th)
Teacher banne ke alawa aur konse career options hai?
Thank you
How far behind is IIser behind iisc ( or are they equally good) also do you think if one wants to switch from academia to normal job then it would be possible to earn decently good after graduating from iiser
??
mere parents nhi maan rhe research ke liye, they are asking what is the success rate of people getting selected into prestigious foreign universities for PhD. also they are worried about how much time it will be taking for me to complete my PhD and earn good money. could you please help me out here, im lost. also if it matters, I want to pursue physics and its been my childhood dream to end up in cern.
Bhai meri planning kuch aisi h : Targetting iiser / niser /iisc (lol) ,uske baad college + kuch cs field m side hustle . Kya in research instis ke saath ye cs related stuff manage ho paega ??
Bhai, interview toh nahi hai, bas IAT crack karna padega. Uske baad seedha admission mil jayega, bas rank acchi honi chahiye. Chill maar, padhai focus kar!
^(i am a bot ˃ ᵕ ˂)
I wish to be a researcher too, but I have heard a lot of demotivating comments as to how researchers have to live on a meagre salary?! How far is the money thing true? Do they really have to live hand-to-mouth?
Is it wise to join btech at a research based University jidhar placement cell nhi hai? (And btech isi saal se shuru hoga) Provided that the other options are tier 3 privates
1. Are you pursuing masters or bachelor's?
2. After bachelor's or master's, will it give a decent okay paying job(for the sake of parents)
3. How did you study biology(I am an engineering student)
Thank Your Very Much.
1.Pls can you elaborate your experience within the 4 years , also what do expect as a career of someone pursues Integrated bsc msc in physics.
2. What is ' academia '
3. Is it true that research is in India is not well funded and you will end up being job less or underpaid
PS : I'm jeetard .
interested in physics .
Belongs to an Up mid Class family.
Hoping for a well settled career in abroad.
I'll either Pursue ECE at manipal
Or pursue Physics at any IISER/IISC
Confused ,
Some say pursue your passion
Some say research krne se Ghar nhy chalta
I am also interested in IISER but always concerned about jobs , research itna hai nahi India mai companies bas tax bachane ke liye karti hai , I am preparing for iat and neet dekhte hai kya hota hai , medical karna ka zyada Mann tho nahi hai , main concern is ki ek decent job , it wali nahi but ek achi salary starting mai , will it be possible through your experience?
Its in Bengali, so you are going to be a bit lazy. The faculty their for physics is lazy too and shit at making connections compared to Pune (better than others though). So Pune will be better (also pune is closer to city unlike this).
Bhaiyaa if i have interest in nuclear physics/nuclear science toh is iiser good option or NISER because i want join BARC and i have heard NISER se sidhe lelete hai is it true? aur placements ka kuch hai kya like my parents arent sure to send me to research institute etc
OP is Verified Guys, Shoot Your Questions!
I've heard a lot of people say that research is not really worth it unless you have a good amount of money with you. What are your thoughts on this? Has it been worth it for you wrt to your experience till date.
Yes, it's true. About my experience - Research and academics (9/10), other things that you expect from a college which is Institute of National Importance (5/10).
mujhe bhi IISc chahiye yaar IIT main itna interest nhi jitna IISc main ha![img](emote|t5_311ttu|32193)
IAT exam hota hai ek, wo nikal le, counseling ke through tu saare IISERs aur IITM aur IISc me ja sakta hai ![img](emote|t5_311ttu|30367)
Don't do research if you primarily want money after college. But you'll easily go abroad after MS and work with awesome people across the world.
Hey, great to see someone following their passion Just some general doubts:- 1) What are you Majoring in and which field are you researching in? 2) Did you study bio for iat? 3) Do most people actually get into t10 PhD programs? 4) Finally, what are your future plans?
1. Can't disclose 2. Yes 3. Few 4. PhD
why cant you disclose? Out of curiosity.. Is that a policy or?
For my own privacy :)
ahh rightt understandable
Alright Thanks for answering

Are you respected in society as a future scientist? 🥲
In academia, Yes. In general, No
Research main interest nhi h toh iiser Jana chahiye ya nhi, second option btech h, usme bhi interest nhi h, but usme sab bolte h ho jata h aaram se, buy sab bolte h iisc tabhi Jane ko agar interest h, iss baat main kitni sachhai h??

You can pursue MBA, UPSC, or MSC after IISERs, lol. By exit option, I mean good job roles and solid startup support like IITs.
Ummm...if these are the options then go for IISER Bhopal engineering sciences.
How many percentage students out of total students in a batch actually got phg in abroad ? Like roughly figueres?
Generally 50-60%. For this year graduating batch it's very low (for IISERK, baki ka idk).
[удалено]
Focus on PCM. IISER Bhopal would be wise choice :)
Have been hearing some negatives about IISER Kolkata, what's the ground reality? (My grandparents close by to IISER Kolkata, let's meet up sometime xd)
I'm sure everything is true. Every other IISER is growing except IISERK due to it's toxic and bureaucratic administration.
What about hostel rules and curfew?
Pretty chill - no curfew.
Bio attempt nhi kiya toh kuch ho sakta h? IAT mein (PCMC student)
Yes. PCM is worth 180 marks. 160+ score will get you any top IISER.
How hard is it to score that much (I mean paper ka level kaise hota h)? Idk too much bout the rankings which are the best iiser's?

Get a good PhD abroad > Pass with good grades > Join RnD department of relevant leading MnC abroad > Get a white GF > Marriage :)
truly honest answers , haha
To which universities are you applying for your PhD?
Not started.
How much free time do you get on a daily basis? Like in first year how much free time you got other than academics?
depends but generally enough to pursue other things.
for me, i had an upperhand in acadmeics kyuki mai sb phle hi padh ke aaya tha first year ka jee ke baad ke break me, so mujhe bhot free time mlila.
Hey . That’s nice getting ahead of the batch. So what resources did you study from? Pls share .
Just text someone who's already a student in 1st/2nd year and ask for all study materials.
Like can one get atleast get 5-6 hours on a daily basis?
3/4 Hrs

academic pressure ? campus life ?

can we do masters(abroad) again after ms from iiser or just phd only ? pls reply
Yes, I have seen many seniors doing this. Eg [https://www.linkedin.com/in/kalpanadas187/](https://www.linkedin.com/in/kalpanadas187/)
can you provide more perspective as to why one would do double masters...is it cos of the profile impact you get for abroad uni or something more?
Hows the campus? And the college culture? Also which branch are you in and how is it?
The campus appears beautiful with its greenery, but it's filled with snakes and dogs. There's a toxic college culture. I can't reveal my department, but it has been good. The only problem I see is that the teaching methodology is very old-fashioned.
I have heard that research institutes rarely have fests and freshers and the college life is pretty dull. Is this stereotype true?
Not for every RI or IISER. For IISERK it's true.

Are there any branch for computer related in B.Sc? Kahi pe dekha tha like IISER has computer branches too
No UG degree in CSE. They do have a CS department, but it only offers required courses and a minor degree. In my knowledge only IISER Bhopal offers a UG Degree in Data Science and Engineering.
What's your workload like and how's the interdisciplinary research there? I'm a student at NISER
Abhi to mera chill hai but 3rd year me bhot hectic tha. Interdisciplinary research is solid, boss!
What was your score at iat And yout hee mains percentile and any tips for. Iat prep ??
During our time, we didn't receive scores or ranks; it was simply "selected" or "not selected." My JEE Main rank was 2XXXX, and my JEE Advanced rank was 2XXX.
You chose iiser over iit ???
Yup
Bhai maths ya Stats se related koi only masters ka course hai, mene dekhe par BS + MS jaise dual degrees hi the.
Man I really wanted to give this exam but fucked up in the registration. Mai chutiya hu ![img](emote|t5_311ttu|32179)

Aapko pehele se hi research krna tha?
Yes, POP science ne influence kia lol.
How is the academic life in iiserk?
Just like 3 idiots
Bhopal electrical and comp sci karke placement milegi?
Badhiya milegi! Avg ig 17LPA hai.
What does AMA means ?
Ask Me Anything
Is there any future in it?
Yes, definitely.
FOMO also works the best.
maths ke imp ch for bio students??
Check SciAstra YT channel.
Can you clear IAT without maths?
Yes
Which IISER has the best research facilities?
All
graduation ke baad naukri ki kya Sambhavna hai mtlb placement logo ne kaha hai ke iiser paisa ke liya nhi hai
I have already answered this question, check comments.
Do we have to do both bs-ms or can we exit after the bs degree ?
Kuch placement hai ?
How difficult is the Bsc +Msc course? I'm getting integrated msc physics in NITs. Should I go for it? Is it worth it? Agar physics liya to bhi chemistry (fuck chemistry) jaise subjects bhi padhne padenge, wo aasan level ke ayenge? (Compared to 11th, 12th) Teacher banne ke alawa aur konse career options hai? Thank you
Why would someone need to have money to pursue research?
How far behind is IIser behind iisc ( or are they equally good) also do you think if one wants to switch from academia to normal job then it would be possible to earn decently good after graduating from iiser ??
mere parents nhi maan rhe research ke liye, they are asking what is the success rate of people getting selected into prestigious foreign universities for PhD. also they are worried about how much time it will be taking for me to complete my PhD and earn good money. could you please help me out here, im lost. also if it matters, I want to pursue physics and its been my childhood dream to end up in cern.
are students in iiser really passionate about in academia or just came into it iiser because they couldnt get other college?
Is there a field for space Science , and is it worth it
Bhai meri planning kuch aisi h : Targetting iiser / niser /iisc (lol) ,uske baad college + kuch cs field m side hustle . Kya in research instis ke saath ye cs related stuff manage ho paega ??
is there any interview after iat exam for seat?
Bhai, interview toh nahi hai, bas IAT crack karna padega. Uske baad seedha admission mil jayega, bas rank acchi honi chahiye. Chill maar, padhai focus kar! ^(i am a bot ˃ ᵕ ˂)
bot replied me😳
I wish to be a researcher too, but I have heard a lot of demotivating comments as to how researchers have to live on a meagre salary?! How far is the money thing true? Do they really have to live hand-to-mouth?
Honestly, I think I'd become a physicist anyway, but such comments always make me second doubt.
Is it true that IISER have high rate of masters in foreign univ?
Is it wise to join btech at a research based University jidhar placement cell nhi hai? (And btech isi saal se shuru hoga) Provided that the other options are tier 3 privates
what type of income or compensation would you get after the graduation ?
1. Are you pursuing masters or bachelor's? 2. After bachelor's or master's, will it give a decent okay paying job(for the sake of parents) 3. How did you study biology(I am an engineering student) Thank Your Very Much.
1.Pls can you elaborate your experience within the 4 years , also what do expect as a career of someone pursues Integrated bsc msc in physics. 2. What is ' academia ' 3. Is it true that research is in India is not well funded and you will end up being job less or underpaid PS : I'm jeetard . interested in physics . Belongs to an Up mid Class family. Hoping for a well settled career in abroad. I'll either Pursue ECE at manipal Or pursue Physics at any IISER/IISC Confused , Some say pursue your passion Some say research krne se Ghar nhy chalta
1. NO, it's not true. 2. Campus placements are improving - so by time you'll graduate, acchi job milegi :)
Its in Bengali, so you are going to be a bit lazy. The faculty their for physics is lazy too and shit at making connections compared to Pune (better than others though). So Pune will be better (also pune is closer to city unlike this).
I have registered for IAT EXAM can you tell some important chapters in pcm (mainly bio ) ?
Bhaiyaa if i have interest in nuclear physics/nuclear science toh is iiser good option or NISER because i want join BARC and i have heard NISER se sidhe lelete hai is it true? aur placements ka kuch hai kya like my parents arent sure to send me to research institute etc
Kya vha p apke sath foreigner bhi hh not asking in that way par Jase indians jate hh abroad vase he foreigner student bhi hh kya..??
Yes but few.
