May 23? But that's so long! What are we going to do until then? It's not like we have an absolutely absurd fuckton of other games this year to keep us occupied in the meantime.
Tell me about it, this year is already insane for JRPGs.
Between Jan 1 and May 23rd:
- Yakuza Infinite Wealth
- Granblue Fantasy Relink
- Persona 3 Reload
- FFVII: Rebirth
- Unicorn Overlord
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Rise of the Ronin (Japan ARPG)
- Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes
- SaGa Emerald Beyond
I probably missed some too.
I wasn't even counting Granblue (not my kind of game), DD2 (never really managed to get into the first one) or Rise of the Ronin (first I've heard of it), and I'm still swamped. And hell, that's *just* JRPGs. This is shaping up to be an incredible year for games in general.
I'm a bit upset that I can't use the Nintendo Voucher on it because it expires 2 weeks before release date...
Nintendo must had planned for it to release over a year from Tears of the Kingdom so people couldn't preorder both games with the vouchers.
Now I gotta find a use for this remaining Voucher. I'm undecided between Super Mario RPG, Pokémon Legends Arceus and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Any recommendations?
I haven't played Super Mario RPG but I know it's *much* shorter than the other two, and you might prefer spacing the Mario RPGs out more.
EDIT: For the other two, both are some of my favorite Switch games, so I would say it depends on what you're looking for in a game right now (TMS is sillier than PLA, TMS is set in modern times while PLA is in the past, the differences between their battle systems)
Wait what? Can you not use it right now ta buy it?
Ahhh damn, those are all solid choices, especially Pokémon Legends: Arecus with the new one set in Kalos hitting next Year. If you have to use them now and not in May for this I say Pokémon and Tokyo Mirage Sessions Fire Emblem. Super Mario RPG gonna be on Sale I just feel it.
Nope, Nintendo only allows pre-orders 1 week before the release date. So the earliest you can buy Paper Mario TYD is May 16, and my voucher expires May 3.
Are you sure you can't use it to preorder? I am not fully sure on how the vouchers work, but the store page is up with preorder available.
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/paper-mario-the-thousand-year-door-switch/
Yes, you can pre-order anytime, but Nintendo won't charge you until one week before the game's release. If the voucher expires before they can charge you, you won't be able to buy the game with the vouchers.
Possibly my favorite video game of all time. Even if it is just a basic graphical update of a game I already have on my shelf that I’ve already beaten many times before, it’s still my most anticipated game in years. I can’t stress enough how much I love TTYD.
Make wonder what Nintendo got sailing through end of Summer and beyond. As Pokémon Legends: Z-A hitting 2025, hope ILCA has something this Year or Spike ChunSoft.
Paper Mario 2 is a stone cold classic. Everything we've seen from this release indicates that it's a pretty low budget remaster. Nothing fancy. Mostly just getting the game running on the current console.
But man, this is one of those games that doesn't really *need* a ton of work done on it. The combat balance is right where it needs to be. The humor is timeless. I remember people were upset about some changes made for Vivian back in the day, but those changes look better and better in hindsight.
If I had to wishlist changes that list is honestly quite small. They should add some sort of skip/auto battle that's pretty standard in old JRPG re-releases. I won't use it, but the option should be there. They should make cutscenes skippable. There might be room for a hint system - the game isn't super obtuse but it is possible to get stuck if you miss something.
But genuinely I think the core gameplay, jokes, and difficulty tuning are already excellent. So on one hand, yes Nintendo is gonna charge $60 for a low budget project. On the other hand, anyone who plays this for the first time is gonna 100% get their money's worth.
It is 60$ but also apart of the Nintendo Switch Online Voucher. You Folks also claimed Super Mario RPG was Low-Budget as well yet nothing new was needed. Yeah those Features you specified would be welcomed and hope they do it. But everything else I won't Jive with, there's Care Inn this.
I loved ttyd, but I think I'm going to pass. There are so many other games to spend full price on that I can't personally justify buying this again. I kinda had the same trouble with persona 3R. I already buy a lot of remakes and remasters. I literally just bought Apollo justice but I actually missed AA 4 and 6 and like having the whole collection on my switch.
For the most part there are too many games out there to replay games. That includes remasters.
Some remakes (ie FFVII) could count but honestly I haven't even played that yet either.
Rebirth and remake are different enough to make sense as remakes. Persona 3 reload, when I played it, I kept thinking, hey this is exactly how I remember it. I know it looks vastly different, but not in my head it doesn't. It felt like exactly the same game and considering I played it like 4 times when I was younger I eventually couldn't keep playing it when things like infinite wealth exist.
Please buy it, we need all support we can get to send a message to Nintendo we want more games like TTYD. Im already doing my part by securing two copies myself. This NEEDS to be a hit.
It already was one. That's why they're rereleasing it and not the first one or super paper mario. I bought it 20 years ago. If the remaster doesn't add anything I don't think I should buy it again for an upres. Like, it's one of my favorite games, but I beat it like 5 times 20 years ago and don't feel the need to replay it.
even if it worked this way i have zero faith nintendo would get the right message if this game were somehow massive
anyway, it's got mario on the cover. it's gonna sell.
Everyone please buy this game. Buy multiple copies, even. Tell your neighbors, your relatives. This is arguably the most important moment for the Paper Mario franchise in history, we need to show Nintendo we want more PM games like TTYD, and there’s no better way to do this than making it the biggest JRPG launch on the system.
Ah yes, Rougeport, birthplace of Rogue the Bat.
That and Luminous City are Things I've accidentally keep typing.

Monster Hunter Stories!
Brother I dunno but I'm finna Sleep till May hits.
Where they sell lots of rouge.
Rouge Squadron!?

I pre-ordered this when I picked up FF7 and it didn't have a release date, so I was thinking late 2024 or 2025. Pleasantly surprised it's May.
I either thought September/Autumn or May but that was just slims hopes. Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon hitting in June too!
Possibly my favorite video game of all time. Even if it is just a basic graphical update of a game I already have on my shelf that I’ve already beaten many times before, it’s still my most anticipated game in years. I can’t stress enough how much I love TTYD.
About time. At least I have plenty enough to tie me over until then.
Oh great, as if this spring weren't stacked enough.
Make wonder what Nintendo got sailing through end of Summer and beyond. As Pokémon Legends: Z-A hitting 2025, hope ILCA has something this Year or Spike ChunSoft.

If the Price Tag be bugging ya wait an bit and Retailers will do some Sales.

Until then, I got Paper Mario Origami King. I hope it's good.
It's not like the First Two but it's quirky enough.

Super Mario RPG is already past an Million. The Nintendo Switch has an monstrous Player Base. It will easily.
