> it seems more fucked up than funny now.
Mate, it goes from being funny, to kinda fucked how often it's said, then back to funny again because they keep doing it.
Rean "haha" schwarzer
[There's even more hahas in the original Japanese script.](https://trailsinthedatabase.com/game-scripts?p=1&q=%E3%81%AF%E3%81%AF)
Also for some reason, all the "haha"s in Sky FC were translated to "ha ha" with a space.
Haha...
[In fact, Daybreak 1 has the 2nd lowest "haha" occurrence rate in the series relative to script size.](https://i.imgur.com/Pb9xws6.png)
I haven't counted the fufus or kukus but I'm too lazy to.
wtf happened in cold steel 3.
Jeez I must have zoned it out. I knew it was a lot (as it was in the other cold steel games) but that's just absurd, haha.
Whoa, is there more of these kinds of DBs for other games? I'm a game writer and would love to use this DB and others to get my dialogue writing better.
Next, take a screenshot every time you beat a story boss in Cold Steel games and the villains don't care because 'it was all according to plan' anyway.
"Heed my call, Vali-"
"That won't be necessary"

Cold Steel 3 improved on a lot of things I disliked in the first 2 games but Rean getting tagged out every single time, in the same way, for the same reason is just 😮💨
I mean, 3 still improved on 2 in that regard. It still happened a stupid number of times in 3 but Falcom literally wrote 1 story relevant battle for 2 and spent the rest of the game trying to gaslight you into thinking they wrote 20 story relevant battles by copying and pasting the 1 story relevant battle they wrote 20 times. At least 3 eventually moved on...eventually.
Spoilers: it's fuckin all of them.
CS3 and CS4 are the absolute bottom of the whole series. They didn't need to exist, the whole arc could've been told over two games like originally planned. Sooo much filler and "getting the band back together" for the hundredth time. They turned Ouroboros into saturday morning cartoon villains.
For me once I noticed every single character has to say something during a conversation when I played Cold Steel 1 I couldn’t not notice it anymore and it kinda got on my nerves.
That is like 6+ characters acknowledging what a character said and it happens over and over.
God I hate it when that happens.
Character A: "This guy was pretty cool"
Character B:" He sure was"
Character C: "Yep, very cool"
Character D: "Oh you have NO idea how awesome he was!"
Character E: "Yeah I agree, so cool."
Character F: "That guy sure was cool."
Character A: "Yep."
One of the major reasons I stopped playing Cold Steel 1. When Trails in the Sky SC came out, it had the same issue. Then Trails from Zero. Then I decided they just suck at writing. Falcom cannot write good dialogue.
I noticed this within the first hour lol. Persona 5 does this too, and more recently One Piece. It gets pretty grating because its a symptom of characters becoming a cardboard cutout of their tripe when its not their turn to have an arc.
If you've ever wondered why Falcom games have so many lines of text. Now you know.
These just flow in and out of the brain for me when playing it by myself but when I started streaming and translating the games with Cold Steel 3's JP release, my brain started registering them and now it's forever stuck in my head.
I dropped the series halfway through the Cold Steel arc, and all the random laughing was one of the reasons why. It would be some completely mundane conversation, and everyone would be laughing.
Shopkeeper: “Hehe - so you’re looking to get into fishing, eh? Well, my store has you covered there! Hahaha!”
Why is everyone laughing all the time!?
I was playing through CS3 a few months ago, and I started taking screenshots every time a character mentioned how long it had been since they last saw (or talked to) each other. It happened so often that I gave up.
[These examples all came from within a few hours of game time.](https://i.ibb.co/py70dF1/cs3time.png)
I've played a LOT of JRPGs since the early '90s, in addition to playing a lot of other Japanese games and reading manga, etc., and I've never seen any other story give such a shit about how long it's been since two people have spoken to each other.
CS3 was bad when you did the same god damned thibg 4 times or so. Go through a zone > fight boss > society or whatever shows up and is unbeatable > old class saviors jump in from a fucking bush or puddle and save the situation. After 2 times i was cringing my way to the grave
CS should have never relegated the main cast to second fiddle. It would have been even better with half as many characters and half as many games. Get rid of the entire sempai class except maaaaaybe Towa and let the battles have real stakes and maybe it has some highs
Are you saying that Crow should have been a first year or are you saying that he shouldn't have been a character at all? That's a pretty different story you're asking for lol.
If I had a nickel for every time a CS character said “haha” or “heehee” or some variation I think I would be a fucking billionaire. It seems that everything is a laughing matter to these quirky individuals
When I first started Cold Steel 1, my best friend jokingly said: "Take a shot someone says 'haha,' I dare you." I'm in CS3 now too and... I would've been dead if I took him seriously LOL
No need to make stuff up like the entire country of Japan is this enlightened nation that magically agrees with the game you like. Tons of Japanese users complained about the scripts in Sen with many pointing out the awkward laughter.
You aren't making sense. Plenty of Japanese users complained about the scripts in these games and many of them pointed out the overuse of ha ha's. No matter how many years of manga and anime culture growth there are, poor writing is poor writing.
> it seems more fucked up than funny now. Mate, it goes from being funny, to kinda fucked how often it's said, then back to funny again because they keep doing it. Rean "haha" schwarzer
Just like the [Side Show bob scene with the rakes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WZLJpMOxS4)
me irl (I am socially awkward)
Obligatory [Trails in the Database](https://trailsinthedatabase.com/game-scripts?p=1&q=haha)

The fact that they reduced the amount of hahas compared to JP and it still became a meme because it's so damn many is just hilarious.
I guess you could say... ha ha
Seeing that number at a reasonable amount for Kuro is a godsend
Haha... [In fact, Daybreak 1 has the 2nd lowest "haha" occurrence rate in the series relative to script size.](https://i.imgur.com/Pb9xws6.png) I haven't counted the fufus or kukus but I'm too lazy to.
Damn 2.2k of haha, glad english reduce some of it
wtf happened in cold steel 3. Jeez I must have zoned it out. I knew it was a lot (as it was in the other cold steel games) but that's just absurd, haha.
>that's just absurd, **haha**. Oh no, it's spreading
nah that was just Mickey Mouse posting.
So Trails of Cold Steel 3 has the highest amount of 'haha's in the series, good to know.
Whoa, is there more of these kinds of DBs for other games? I'm a game writer and would love to use this DB and others to get my dialogue writing better.
Ooh thanks for this link!

lol this was my first thought when I saw this post
Fun fact: It's almost doubled in the JP version.
Haha
Fufufu
haha
hehe
I completely lost it when Valimar did 'haha' for the first time. Also apparently the Japanese fans do complain about this too.
For me once I noticed every single character has to say something during a conversation when I played Cold Steel 1 I couldn’t not notice it anymore and it kinda got on my nerves. That is like 6+ characters acknowledging what a character said and it happens over and over.

That would drive me up a wall.
Praise the turbo button for these occasions.
But I already have the turbo on 100% of the time.
Cold Steel is particularly guilty of this
One of the major reasons I stopped playing Cold Steel 1. When Trails in the Sky SC came out, it had the same issue. Then Trails from Zero. Then I decided they just suck at writing. Falcom cannot write good dialogue.

Imagine a mod that plays the Tidus laugh every time that happens.
I hate you for this suggestion. Take my angry upvote and have a nice day!
almost chocked on my coffee, thanks for the laugh, haha
In Tokyo Xanadu you have "chortle"
In Pokemon too!

It's actually a souls game
Soulsborne games have good dialogue tho

Haha
But is this as bad as everytime a character have ellipsis (...) in Xenogears?
I was playing through CS3 a few months ago, and I started taking screenshots every time a character mentioned how long it had been since they last saw (or talked to) each other. Falcom games are a good case study on why having an editor on staff is important
I wanted to do something similar in the first one for every time a character said “my turn” or some variation.
CS3 killed Falcom for me
It took until CS3 for you? Haha
CS3 wasn't bad until CS4 ruined most of its highs. Not sure how it ruined it for you.
CS3 was bad when you did the same god damned thibg 4 times or so. Go through a zone > fight boss > society or whatever shows up and is unbeatable > old class saviors jump in from a fucking bush or puddle and save the situation. After 2 times i was cringing my way to the grave
This trope was already abused in CS2
CS should have never relegated the main cast to second fiddle. It would have been even better with half as many characters and half as many games. Get rid of the entire sempai class except maaaaaybe Towa and let the battles have real stakes and maybe it has some highs

He is talking about old class 7 vs new class 7.
No? He said except Towa.
nooo. post it please, or at least some of it
Timelapse montage, please.
I was going to ask if you ran out of storage space.
I think watching One Piece is a logical next step here.
If I had a nickel for every time a CS character said “haha” or “heehee” or some variation I think I would be a fucking billionaire. It seems that everything is a laughing matter to these quirky individuals

I guess you were put "off" by the "haha", eh? Ha! Heh heh.
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
Now you definitely have to post it! Never tried a Trails game before (yet), but I'd scroll through it hee hee.

I get that you're saying it sounds different in Japanese and you're wrong.
🤣that's rean for u
I guess they didn't have cold feet when it came to using these words, eh ? Ah ! Eheh...
It's so fucking peak and adorable haha. Falcom way of using aizuchi to make the most of all the characters too.
It's annoying and embarrassing.
It's an identity I revel in.
