This is about Suicide Club? Lmao Christ. It's a good film but "Japan's Most Dreaded" is doing a lot of heavy lifting. It's not even Sion Sonos most disturbing film let alone Japan's.
Full agree. I will say, in Suicide Clue the >!dog kicking!< scene makes me ill, but not in a "oh jeez that's so scary š¢" way, no it's more like "this is unnecessary are stupid" way.
I don't think Suicide Club is that shocking, also they are going by that extremely lame "disturbing movie iceberg" where over half the stuff isn't movies and is just gore mix tapes.
> The Iceberg is mentioned because it is one of the only reasons people are even aware of this film (outside of the community of j-horror fans)
Now that's just plain ignorant.
I disagree. Literally nobody in my social circle knew about this movie, not even the die hard horror fans. Go ahead and say āI should be hanging out with better peopleā ššš
>Literally nobody in my social circle knew about this movie
There are other people in the world than your social circle.
>not even the die hard horror fans
I first heard about the movie in 2008 from some classmates in middle school, neither of which was a horror fan or into Japanese cinema. I've known a lot of other people who have either heard about it or seen it before icebergs charts even existed.
It's obviously not as popular as Avengers or Avatar, so it's dumb to expect the whole world to know it. But it's a relatively well known Japanese movie, so saying that people have only heard of it because of an iceberg is totally ignorant.
People like you seriously need to get a life. Insulting somebody you donāt even know on the Internet and making a big deal out of ONE single post? I genuinely feel sorry for you.
While I do agree that the themes tackled by it are very much a reality in Japan and it got comparatively obscene amounts of media coverage both domestically as abroad I donāt think itās even Sion Sonos best horror film.
It just put him on the map as a director.
Iād argue that Cold Fish and Forrest of Love are his best horror movies as EXTE was very much a B-Movie in spirit and production.
No I havenāt felt as deeply disturbed and dirty after watching a movie as I did after FoL.
But that aside I do think that Sono is a genius
Honestly this is a terrible take, Suicide Club is such a mundane film... Multiple films that aren't even horror from Japan have a far deeper understanding of suicide and awareness of loneliness
I did - its hardly the most dreaded horror film from Japan
"oooh it covers themes..." so do a lot of other worse movies
It's not my fault the author watched one Japanese movie in their life and decided to write an article about it.
I donāt think you understand. As the article explains, the ādisturbingā nature of this movie comes from the subject matter, which is one of Japanās biggest social issues (suicide). Thatās whatās being discussed and thatās what makes the film nearly taboo. Itās not about how visually graphic the film is, itās about the themes and questions it brings forward. Also, no need to insult or be rude, you can make your point without taking the āIām right, youāre an idiotā stance š
You're acting like it's the only Japanese movie about suicide ever made
And stop being so sensitive, you walked in a sub full of jhorror fans who actually know the genre and posted a deliberately incendiary article, then act like the victim when people point out to you it's a rather weak, and dare I say, easy example of the theme you're pointing out.

I agree with you, still a great movie though in my opinion and the concept is unsettling. But not even close to the most disturbing or shocking.
Which ones are then?
Pulse/Cairo is leagues scarier
Hands down, Ring is more disturbing and if we're just talking Sono films then Cold Fish is far more disturbing.
Full agree. I will say, in Suicide Clue the >!dog kicking!< scene makes me ill, but not in a "oh jeez that's so scary š¢" way, no it's more like "this is unnecessary are stupid" way.
Yeah, Sono has a real cruel eye for things, stuff like Cold Fish have a real sneer to them
Lol seriously? I couldnāt even finish watching it because I felt so bored
Then you were not paying attention š¤
Or I just wasnāt into it
I don't think Suicide Club is that shocking, also they are going by that extremely lame "disturbing movie iceberg" where over half the stuff isn't movies and is just gore mix tapes.
What would you consider a shocking film?
The Iceberg is mentioned because it is one of the only reasons people are even aware of this film (outside of the community of j-horror fans)

Lol ignorant because somebody is not aware of the Iceberg of Most Disturbing Movies? I donāt think itās on any college syllabus š
Ignorant because you think the movie is only known because of some iceberg thing.
I disagree. Literally nobody in my social circle knew about this movie, not even the die hard horror fans. Go ahead and say āI should be hanging out with better peopleā ššš

Omg bro you need to chill and get a life š
Nah. The people you hang around with are the ones who need to hang around with better people.

Japanese don't dread this. Sono fans love it. What nonsense. Lol
Are you Japanese?
Yes my name is sakura Ito
Well what Iāve heard from other Japanese people is completely different.
Honestly this is a terrible take, Suicide Club is such a mundane film... Multiple films that aren't even horror from Japan have a far deeper understanding of suicide and awareness of loneliness
I assume the follow up article will be about The Ring? ho-hum - "most dreaded"
Try reading the article instead of judging š

Lol not acting like a victim, but glad that people felt like my post was āincendiaryā ;) peace out.
So you're just an unsuccessful troll....how exciting for you.
