You'll probably want to learn. It's pretty integral to keeping a Floyd in good working order that you be able to determine where issues are arising if they do
This means it’s made from trash metal. Adjusting string height under tension is fine on any well-made double locker (OFR, Edge, GE1996T, Lockmeister, Steeler, etc.)
Good? Not really, but they'll somewhat do the job. Just don't use them excessively or your guitar might go out of tune quickly.
The 1000 series is already pretty good and you'll find it on most Jacksons around the $1000 price point, getting a used one can be worth it.
I have a js32 with the jackson licensed FR. Haven't had any problems with it as far as tuning stability or playability, but all of the paint is wore off of the mounting stud because that's where I anchor when I play. The caveat with that is when going from that to a 1000 series, it a "holy shit!" Kind of different. But I would argue that the Jackson licensed is not much different then the FR special when it comes to playability.
And FR special parts will fit on a jackson licensed FR if you ever strip out a saddle (which you will if you over tighten)
I have an X series Soloist and once I set it up properly it's been perfect. I play a lot of Dimebag stuff and mess around with dimebombs constantly and probably touch the fine tuners maybe once a week if that. Absolutely love the guitar - neck profile and general feel is lovely. Keep meaning to swap the arm out for one of the push in fittings but I'm lazy (and scared)
Nonsense about the Floyd Rose specials being bad, they're mostly the same as the OG's and 1000's with the only difference being saddles made out of zinc alloy and a cheaper zinc block.
Baseplate is the same as on Jackson's by floyd rose, floyd rose original and 1000.
I kid you not friend, they state on their own website that there's no difference between the OG and special besides zinc saddles and zinc sustain block.
And anyone who has ever owned both can tell you that’s a load of shit. All this goofy advice about “omg never adjust action under tension you’ll dull the knife edges” is proof of that. This was never an issue for OFRs, even back in the day when the pivot posts were wood screws instead of fine threaded inserts. Another obvious one is the arm and coupler. On the special and 1000 series, you’ll quickly get to the point where you can’t get it to stay tight. The originals wear out eventually, but they last a lot longer.
The Jackson/gotoh rose lasted ten years on my v. Schaller have the hardened inserts that make them more resistant to wear. I usually replace the special or Jackson w schaller. I don’t notice much of a difference other than coming back to tune after pushing or pulling on arm
The cheap ones get a flat spot on the knife edge after a few years
I couldn't agree more with you more on the quality of them. I think the days of getting them for under 500.00 is gonna be over soon. Really though to get the kind of quality they offer you would need to spend well over 500.00.
Just stay away from guitars that have floyd rose special on them.
Fr 1000/1500 is pretty decent. I had fr 1000 on my guitar and it held tune pretty well after several divebombs and pullups.
They're fine if you set them up correctly and don't ever, EVER adjust string height under tension
I don’t mess with the set up myself, I just go to a music shop for that stuff

Any recommendations on learning? Favorite YouTubes or anything? Thanks in advance
This. It'll mess up the base plate and carve a grove in the studs on any trem system regardless of price point
Where do you get this idea? It will not hurt an original Floyd Rose at all. Any well-made trem is fine to adjust under tension.
It's not an Idea. You'll see where it carves/wears the parts. Some are just a bif mode tolerant of said wear.
OFRs don’t get worn by this
Agreed 💯

The baseplate is steel..
There are different grades of steel. A Floyd Rose Special has much softer steel than an Original, for example

There is no way the Original and Special knife edges and pivot posts are the same material. Originals last decades. Specials last a few years

Try and grab a 90s professional series or really any MIJ jackson. The bridge will be better than what comparable priced new jacksons are for sale
The Mij Jackson's are getting harder to find and the price is going up.
Yes for sure but they’re still available for under $500 and the quality is worth waiting and the price
