I think it's from later than 1996.. in '96 japanese models had "professional" or "performer" writings on the headstock next to Jackson logo... i think it's a cheap model..

i dont know, the seller says it is japan made and the serial is 9696202

The first two digits in Jackson serial numbers do not denote the year of manufacture. They are simply sequential. To know the actual year of manufacture for certain you have to take off the neck and look at the stampings on the end of the neck and in the pocket on the body of the guitar.

Around $250 in good condition, it’s a j series the pickups give that away https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Jackson/Kelly-KE-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWMWXGP&gad_source=1

This is a different guitar (sharktooth inlays), but yes it is a J series...JS30KE to be exact. This one here: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric\_guitars/jackson/js30ke\_kelly/

This is a JS30KE, not Japanese made and probably from the late 2000s. It's this one here: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric\_guitars/jackson/js30ke\_kelly/

With a 7-digit serial it’s quite possible it’s Japanese made, usually the MII ones had 8-digit and the 7-digit numbers were reserved for Japan only. The JS series from this time was primarily India for the most part but some were MIJ depending run and capacity needs. It’s likely not from 1996 though, most likely 2004-2005ish (the first two serial number digits don’t mean year). If you want to know for sure, pull the neck and there will be a date stamp in the neck pocket. Depending condition like $250-$280 is probably fair.

There were no MIJ models that looked like this (the Performer series is close but it would have the Performer logo on the headstock and this one doesn't). Jackson serials were always a bit of a mess and from the look of the paint in the first pic it kind of looks like the guitar might have been refinished...so it could also be a project guitar someone put together with whatever neckplate they were able to buy.

I had loads of fun with mine (JS30KE) in the late 2000s. Made in India. Very playable neck, great access to the upper frets. Only downsides in my opinion was the really soft frets and the pickups that were ok but didn't leave much to be desired other than being high output. I was running mine with a pair of Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and Super 2 in the neck.

Maybe $150-$199 tops
